“Tell worth a visit”
Reviewed 13 May 2014 via mobile

I've visited Kenya many times over the past 20+ years and keep returning to the Trout Tree every time I go... Yes it may be a little rough and ready, but The novelty of eating in a huge tree house with amazing ambiance is second to none... Highly recommended and great value for money, it goes without saying that you have got to try the "fresh" trout, but there are numerous other menu options....

“Treetop Lunch”
Reviewed 6 May 2014

Am rating this "Very good" more for the novelty of the place rather than the food. The restuarant is built in and around a large tree and looks like something that belongs in a children's fairytale. Its worth the stopover simply to witness it. Trout farms surround the restaurant so your catch will definitely be fresh. Where it fails is in the seasoning and the actual cooking. The chef has a heavy touch - the sauces could do with being a little more delicate. Service can also be very slow when they are crowded, management should look into hiring more waiters.

“Tree Experience...”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

This is one restaurant I've always planned on visiting. We managed to do that over Easter & weren't disappointed at all. It's such an interesting experience; we were wowed.

The entrance is just off the Nanyuki road, you wont miss seeing the signs. There are steps/a ramp to get you to the 1st level of the seating area. It being Easter & packed, service was still fast & friendly. Of course we all tried the Trout with fries & veggies. The food was quite tasty & all served on some wooden cutting boards. There's also a smaller portion available for kids. The establishment doesn't have power & they have a very creative way of cooling their drinks. The crates are lowered into the fish pond for cooling! Interesting!

Take time to tour the fish ponds & enjoy watching the Columbus monkeys leaping between the trees.

We will definitely be dropping in each time while on that road.

“Worth a stop over”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

Location is very convenient and easy to find with a large fish signboard on the road indicating the entrance.
The site is beautiful in a forested area with colobus monkeys in the trees right above the restaurant.
The amenities are good, although there are a few steps, did not notice a ramp so not sure about easy access for wheelchairs.
The food was very tasty and large portions. While the food does take a while, there is a playground to entertain children and the treehouse to climb and explore, in the meantime.
Would definitely stop off again.

“Catch your own food”
Reviewed 17 April 2014

Now, if you want to try something different in Central Kenya, this is the place to visit. They do allow visitors to catch their own fish sometimes which is what I think this is the most unique thing about this place. I really wish they had allowed us to catch the fish ourselves. By the way, the fish is farmed so you use a net to catch it and not a line and hook (thats what I expected at first). The fish is made very well, and the experience of eating from a tree is interesting. Walking around the place and checking out the different fish tanks was also a lovely and enlightening experience. Though the food was a bit pricey, it was a lovely visit that worth every coin. Something else to note is that they are not open throughout, so you have to call and check first before you drive all the way.
