Summer Gardens
Reviewed 29 July 2013

My house was across from the tented camp and when visitors stayed I put them up here. The food is well below standard, the service was disgraceful. First we had to wait to get our order taken which took them 45 minutes, the starters took 1 hour to come to the table. The main courses we ordered when 4 arrived and there was 6 of us the staff came up to the other two people and said sorry we don't have on menu and you have to order something else, we all wanted to eat at the same time. Breakfast as pre-arranged with the management was at 730am, the chef was still sleeping and when eventually found all he would cook was eggs. The rooms were shabby and bedding dirty.

Room Tip: Don't book there are other hotels of better quality and food in area like Kongoni camp or Falcon...

Our first visit to Summer gardens and I have to say I was very impressed.

We have lived in Nanyuki over 7 months now and it's a hidden gem, on the ring road going to mount Kenya Safaria Club.

The food was really well priced and I couldn't fault it. They do a mix of Indian and Chinese food and our kids even had really good size portions, so much so they couldn't finish there meals.

The drinks are reasonable prices at 200 KSH of a Cold Tuskers.

So why not 5 stars you ask...lets see after my next visit.

We will be going again, I think it may be our new favourite restaurant in Nanyuki.

The good things about this place are the staff. There were extremely friendly, helpful and hard working. The accommodation itself was interesting, a framed tent with a concrete bathroom block butted on the end - it is nicer than it sounds. This was a real Kenyan experience, a long way from some resorts that shield you from reality.

The problem was that after friendly, helpful, hard working and interesting the adjectives become negative.

No Wifi (at time of trip), no TV in tent, few - too few electricity points, not enough places to store clothes, but worst of all was the management was just dis-organised. We never got our breakfast even close to being on time, to the extent that we sometimes had to leave without eating. In the evening the service was just random, it could be a long time between courses.

The poor management was a shame as I really wanted to like this place, the staff were great and overall it was a good trip but if I go back I would stay at another place that I have reviewed. If I see any reviews to say they have sorted things out then I may re-consider.
