I was lucky enough to get a sneak peak before this opened, and this is just an incredible place. Set in its own land, the size of Manhattan, you can go on walking safari (almost the only place in Kenya where this is possible), or choose the jeep. Or, just sit watching the animals walk by, whether you decide to do so from the bar, the swimming pool or the observation deck. That's once you've taken in the incredible garden, the world-class African art, or indeed the fully sustainable eco-system they've pioneered. The staff couldn't be more helpful, and the rooms/houses are like a home from home. Well, rather nice than my own home, actually. Enough to make even animal-sceptics fall in love with safari.

We have traveled to many places around the world and stayed in various accommodations.. but Segera will forever remain in our hearts as "heaven on earth." Every detail incorporated by the visionary of this retreat comes together to make it a spectacular experience: lush gardens, exquisite lodgings in private two-story villas and organic, local food presented by world-class chefs. In addition, you are surrounded by captivating contemporary African art all around the grounds and in the villas. All of this is ensconsed within acres of land that is home to Africa's wild beasts. The juxtaposition of luxury and adventure is magical. The staff feels like family and anticipates your requests almost as soon as you think of it! Lounging by the pools at the end of the day is the perfect touch. Unfortunately, the spa and wine cellar were not quite open when we visited, since we were some of the earliest guests.
We plan to return with our entire family including four grandchildren as soon as they are old enough to appreciate this wonder of Segera. We cannot wait!

Room Tip: Every villa is exquisite.. they are all 5-star.

This was a lifetime experience!
Segera exudes beauty from the minute you step in it. You are surrounded by most beautiful landscapes, powerful modern African art, and beautiful gardens. The villas are nothing but utter luxury and beauty as you encounter nature and see the animals from the safety of your villa.
Every minute we spent there was a heart opening experience. The food was delicious. The staff were super kind and nice. And of course there is the AMAZING safari experiences. We still bright up with excitement when we think of all the animals we saw from elephants to zebras. Both the walking and the driving safari were superb and can never choose which one we liked better: we LOVED both of them. And oh, there were the picnics by the river taking you back to scenes of a romantic movie and the amazing dinner experiences every night with new surprises of the setting and the ambiance. All of that, which we could still go the gym every day and do our rounds at the pool. It is truly a life experience. I can't wait to go back again.

Imagine a stunning tropical garden set in the middle of the vast Kenyan savannah, a garden punctuated with the most beautiful and provocative African art. Segera feels like another world, an absolutely idyllic place to relax, where can happily sit on your veranda all day long just watching the animals wandering past and the vast African skies unfurl in front of you.

But if you can tear yourself away the gardens, the pool or spa, you are minutes from the most amazing encounters with herds of elephants, giraffes, ostrich, hippo, numerous antelope and gazelle ranging free in the bush.

The whole staff from the rangers to the chef were absolutely brilliant. Unobtrusive and yet attentive. Every attention to detail was taken care of, usually before you'd thought of it yourself. The villas are incredibly comfortable and spacious, the food delicious.

Honestly, its been a few weeks now and I still can't get the place out of my mind.
I understand Segera opens up fully to the public this spring and I have no doubt will quickly become impossibly difficult to get into.

My advice - book now.

We were lucky to get places as trial guests at Segera Retreat just before official opening. The retreat is an oasis set around a beautiful garden filled with striking modern African sculptures, in the middle of a large reserve stuffed with all the big animals, so we saw a large number of Elephants, Zebras, Giraffes, Water Buffalo all manner of leaping antelopes, birds etc. We also had the apparently rare opportunity to go on foot with (armed) guides as well as on drives, which offered a very different experience. The place has been built on the highest sustainability standards - if you go, definitely ask to be shown how this has been achieved with clever water recycling and hidden solar panels. Staff were lovely and food was very good - with very healthy vegetarian options. The atmosphere: very calm. A place to visit nature and feel restored.

Room Tip: All the rooms are in villas dotted around the garden and all face outwards with a porch looking out to the land, so there's not really one better than the others
