We have just arrived back from a wonderful holiday-the hotel is fantastic! From the moment you arrive, you know that you are somewhere special: it looks, feels and sounds as you would expect an exclusive spa to be (not as though we had ever been to one)! The grounds are wonderful and the whole resort has been carefully set out to give you glimpses of the sea, lush planting or pools.
We researched Mauritius before we went, so we knew that as it was the end of their Winter, we were likely to get some rain showers, grey cloud, quite strong winds and not terribly high temperatures, especially in the South of the island. The latter appeared to come as a shock to some people, so do bear this in mind and chose the time of year which suits you best. (The seasons are opposite to ours, so August is during their low-season.)
The resort is largely based around the beautiful beach and bright blue sea. Water shoes are useful for walking along the beach/entering the water, as there is quite a lot of coral. The current is quite strong, so heed the advice you are given if you use the free pedalos/kayaks etc and stay in front of the hotel's beach. (We saw a number of couples being towed back.) Do book in advance to go out on the free glass bottom boat, it is worth doing the short trip, even if the weather is not fantastic.
This time of year, there are plenty of empty sunbeds all around the resort;overlooking the sea or around the delightful, though cold, pools. But if you really want to get away from it all, go to the Spa. You do not need to book any treatments, you can just go in for free and relax on one of the comfy beds/sun-loungers, use the jacuzzi, sauna, steam room or, if you are feeling brave, have a drip in the small but cold pool. All of this is enclosed by a small but beautiful garden with the sound of relaxing music gently playing in the background. (The beds furthest away from the jacuzzi tend to be the quietest, though if people are talking too loudly in the jacuzzi, staff will speak to them.)
We loved the Playa restaurant overlooking the sea, virtually on the beach. It suited us, as we enjoyed being 'served' and it was quieter than the buffet, so we had most of our meals there-you need to book it in advance for the evening meal but not for lunch. The food is beautifully presented-don't be surprised if you put on rather a lot of weight! The staff, as with everyone else in the resort, were very polite and friendly. We had a wonderful special anniversary meal at the Playa but we won't tell you too much, as we would not want to spoil the surprise, if you are lucky enough to have one yourself :) Needless to say, we felt very special!
There is a children's club, small gym, tennis courts and a games area but we did not make use of these, so we can not comment. However, we did make use of the free bicycle hire. The bikes vary in quality, so are not necessarily the easiest to use but staff did check the breaks were fine before we set out and encouraged us to test the gears. You are also provided with a helmet.
The free phone is very useful and we greatly appreciated being able to phone home, as we had come without our teenage son. (Obviously, there are times when you have to wait but that is to be expected.) The free resort wide wifi was also useful, as were the two fixed computers next to the pool bar.
The range of drinks available in the All Inclusive is very good but do remember that the A.I. stops at midnight, not as though there is much in the way of evening entertainment. Talking of which, you do really need to go All Inclusive, as there is nothing much else around and prices at the resort would be very expensive, if you had to pay.
Do make the effort to tour the island, unless you are after a totally relaxing holiday. We booked our holiday on-line independently, so arranged our own transfers and tours. We were fortunate to become friends with another couple who wanted to see similar things to us, so we shared the cost of a large taxi (minivan) and did two full-day taxi tours. Be prepared to look around, compare prices, make phone calls and to haggle if you want to get the best deals :) (You will pay a lot more if you go through the holiday reps.)
Our airy room had the wow factor, great bathroom and a sea view: we were very pleased with it. There were a couple of small maintenance issues but these were largely resolved very quickly. The room looked like it had been recently painted, was very clean, the fridge replenished daily and towels/sheets etc changed regularly.
The staff were really hard working. We would like to thank them all: those we saw and those behind the scenes who we did not even meet but are equally important to the smooth running of the resort.

Two weeks from aug 3rd 2014. myself 62 and my 15 year old daughter, The hotel spotlessly clean, and the best team of staff i have ever met.our room were immacculate(thanks Sita) and the grounds are kept wonderfully be the gardening team. The food is excellant, with enough varied choice for everyone, even a fussy eater, to find something delicious to eat. This was my first trip to the island, and we managed to see most of it by going on a few excursions arranged for us by our Thomsons rep. Well done Pradeep, excellant as thompsons usually are.Loved the` Tom Cruise Trip` it was great.would definately go back given the oppurtunity , will take more spending money next time,as the island is quite an expensive place to shop. But i can't fault the all inclusive package which covers so much, including a variety of sports and activities. tea making ,and mini bar in room all free too. even a free phone to call home. I have heard this is classed as the number one hotel on the island, and i won't argue with that. Thanks to all that work so hard to keep this hotel so lovely.

Room Tip: was in room 1117, close to beach and plaza restaurant, which is all inclusive except items marked wi...

If you want a home away from home this is the place. If you want to do lots of activities this is the place. If you want to do nothing but just lie around, eat good food and do nothing this is place. If you just want to just walk, cycle, relax this is place. If you want a place where your kids will be taken care of this is the place. IF you want night life this is the place. If you want to have lovely people to take care of you this is place. Can you imagine that all their staff are warm people- from restaurant to beach to housekeeping to gardeners to play area. You can never go wrong with this place. In fact I called my travel agent and told her that she should recommend Tamassa to everyone who wants to go to Mauritius. There is never a dull day in Tamassa.

Dear Calvinonthego,

Nothing can be more pleasure to ears than to hear from guests, that Tamassa is their “home away from home”.

I am glad to learn that you enjoyed your stay with us and had a great time.

Our people are certainly very special, who have converted Tamassa into place, where you can play and get pampered at all times. As mentioned by your goodself, our team members are very warm and work extremely hard to create “wow moments” for our guests.

We look forward to have another opportunity to serve you.

Myself, husband and 10 year old daughter have just returned from a 2 week stay at Tamassa and can honestly say that this is the best hotel we have ever stayed in. The staff, as mentioned many times, make this place so special. They are very welcoming, genuinely happy in their work, always smiling and are always interested and chatty (and this applies to ALL staff). The people who we would especially like to say thank you to are Nirma, Mervin and Rajiv from the B Bar, Rafick from the beach bar and Yadev our cleaner/supervisor. The manager Yanesh is pretty special too always remembering our daughter by name and chatting when he went past. The hotel itself is fabulous. The grounds are spacious and immaculately kept. There are 3 pools - all infinity and spotlessly clean. They are a bit on the cool side (although we did go in winter) and maybe this is why they were mostly empty which is a shame as they are amazing. The beach is superb with lovely warm sea. Take beach shoes though as there are sometimes small pieces of coral which are quite sharp and a few urchins in the sea. Sun beds are plentiful and scattered all around the grounds. What could be nicer than laying on a comfy bed overlooking the sea being served drinks by a smiling happy waiter - we miss it so much! The rooms are fantastic - we loved the decor and the bathrooms are absolutely amazing with lovely complimentary spa toiletries. The 2 restaurants were also fabulous. The buffet restaurant had a different theme every night and the food was plentiful, with great variety. The quality was excellent. The beach restaurant had to be booked and we only tried this one night (preferred the buffet really) The ambiance and setting are lovely and although the menu is slightly limited, the food was really well presented and tasty. They even remembered it was my husband's birthday and brought a cake and candles and sung happy birthday. The B Bar is a great place to go after dining and the staff even remember what you drink! The entertainment was mixed but we really liked the live music particularly the pianists. It was a great place to meet people and relax in comfortable surroundings. We did 2 trips - one on a catamaran on the east coast and the other we hired a taxi (cost £70 a day) to take us to all the attractions (7 coloured sands, waterfall, volcano, temples and Cassella zoo) Driver was great - would definitely recommend. I would also recommend a trip on the glass bottomed boat (free). We went twice and saw so many fish and even a turtle - made my day. All in all, I can't rate this hotel high enough. If you are thinking of going to Mauritius, go here! You definitely won't regret it - we would love to go back again someday.

Room Tip: The upper floors give the best views.
