My boyfriend and I had found this hotel in the lonely planet book and it said it was $10 but this is no longer valid and we ended up paying more - I think $15. We stayed in room 27 and had a twin room as the double was already taken ( number 28 ) We had air con, cable tv and a fridge. The tv only had a couple of channels in English but they stopped working during our two night stay. The room was a good size but the bedding smelt like 50 guests at least had already slept on it - I bundled mine up for washing after the first night of sleeping on my tshirt but the 'cleaner' just unbundled the bedding and put it back on my bed yuk! The bathroom was ok ish but the shower was not hot as promised and the bathroom was full of ants everday. I would say that by the time we left the bathroom was a lot cleaner than it had been for months as we kept showering the walls down. The staff were not that friendly unfortunately but a plus was that we had a large shared balcony overlooking the street with comfy sofas and a table to sit at. I would say this hotel is ok for a short stay if you can't find anywhere else but just beware of the bedding!!!!

Room Tip: Try room 28

Arrived in the low season and no other people stayed in this guesthouse. Stayed here last year and the tv had 100 channels, now only 6. This year in 4 days, 2 power cuts of at least 3 hours. Did laundry service and didn't ask for the price coz I trusted it. The owner asked me 20,000 kip (2 EU) for 1,5 kilos so that was a rip off. No view, still building site noise.

Cheap and basic guest house well located just outside the crazy part of Vang Vieng. In Oct 2010 there was a construction site next door that was very noisey from the early hours. Owners were pleasant.

Arriving in Vang Vieng from the Luang Prabang bus (no booking), I shared a tuk-tuk with others, asking that I be 'last out' to be able to view their choices. Khamphone GH was third and seemed OK from the outside. I went in with the bookees to see the rooms: big, clean, hot water (I think TV - can't recall), lovely 1st floor covered, open porch with comfy chairs, breakfast area, small mini-market attached. Place was quiet. Manager, Sikay Sone, very helpful about good food-places, sights, bookings, etc. I think I paid $10 per night (or $8), a bargain. Co-guests were all types but not rowdy a la 2-blocks north in town. Concrete/marble with wood trimmings [no fire-risk], seemingly very safe. I had planned 2 nights, but stayed 5. On the riverfront, some lovely, quiet restaurants jutting over the water - as well as the usual noisy venues. Yes, it's true: many cafes do show "Friends" continuously. P.S. the Organic Farm restaurant [around corner from Khamphone] is not to be missed - for food, not service.
