“Spectacular view with comfortable rooms”
Reviewed 12 August 2012

A hostel is a beautiful building; interior is made of lovely typical Loa teak wood. You will be greeted at the entrance by a very friendly and chatty bird who can speak Lao and a few English words. We stayed on the 3rd floor in a very big and clean room with a balcony. The room has fan, hot shower, TV facilities with spectacular view of the mountains and river. We arrived very late and the manager was very helpful to accommodate us. We securely parked our motorbike in the garden with CCTV facilities.

Room Tip: get the rooms at the back with mountains view

Only stayed here for two nights. Arrived without booking and they had a room available. Room was big and clean with a small balcony. Only went there for tubing, nice place, good location! No insects seen. Bed was a very large double. Didn't have much to do with the staff but they seemed pleasant! We did book bus with them to Vientiane, all was fine!

The view from the room was stunning (keep in mind, they do have rooms on both sides of the hotel, we had a view room on the third floor). Staff was friendly and helpful. Hotel was clean, but rooms were not cleaned daily nor were new towels provided (unless you ask). Beds were pretty hard, even for Asia, but what do you expect? It's better than mushy.

Maps may show this hotel (and many in Laos) in not quite the right location since addresses are streets only, no numbers. This hotel is on the north end of town which makes it more quiet. The entire town is within 10 minutes walk.

Try the fabulous restaurant about 5 doors down (towards town) on the river front called The Terrace at Song River. We ate there a number of times, flavors of dishes always varied, wide variety of things on the menu (red chicken curry a favorite of ours), breakfast sets good too.

We would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Room Tip: 2nd or 3rd floor facing the river are the best for the view

WARNING: I caught the cleaning ladies (they live there) as they wanted to steal my valuables. The reaction of the management was kinda like: they didn't steal anything yet, so what's the problem? DON'T STAY THERE!

This hotel is clean and an excellent value. However, there is no place to hang anything- no hooks, closet, etc. They could be much better rated if they would provide that basic element. And- the need to service the rooms more often. I stayed 3 nights and they never emptied the trash.

Room Tip: Get a room in the new building facing the river and mountains.

If you're looking for a hotel in a central location (close to tube renting company, the island with bars, and restaurants), but also far enough to fall asleep tO perfect silence, look no farther! Mountain River view is your hotel!

Initially We stayed with Grandview hotel. Big mistake. The rooster farm and 8am construction every morning in the lot adjacent to the hotel was the worst we've experienced on our 4 month trip through Asia. Mountain riverview was a blessed relief!

For $17 a night you will get; a tv, soft bed, hot water, balcony that over looks the river (make sure you request a river view room), towels and friendly staff. The room itself was big and clean. The balcony overlooked the river and the beautiful limestone mountains. Laundry service was cheap, about $1/Kg. No breakfast and no wifi in rooms.

If your staying in Vang Vieng I recommend eating at Peeping Som. It's a bit out of the central area, but it's only a 2 min walk from the hotel up the alley. Good food is difficult to find in this small town, but this restaurant does it right. The pork snichtzel, chicken Kiev and Laos pesto with chicken were DELICIOUS. This place was so good we eat here 6/7 days we were in Vang Vieng. We would try other restaurants but they wouldn't compare. You won't regret eating here!

Overall this hotel receives an exceeds expectations for $17/night and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet sleep in a central location along the river front.

I use trip advisor a lot and for the most part usually find what I expect after reading the reviews. This was so off the mark I thought I must be in the wrong place. No way this is a new place. We could not sleep in the bed rather we had large enough clean towels and sarongs with us to put on top of the bed and we slept fully clothed. Dirty, smelly and linen has obviously not been changed. Floor mats were filthy, the window so filthy it was difficult to see out, the screen was coated with dirt and bugs. We were on a quick 1 night stop over and we're so happy to get out of that room in the morning. We had pre booked and paid through Agoda, do not do that either price is 50 percent higher.
