“bring your own gear”

Reviewed 15 June 2013

OK, maybe it's partially my own fault for doing this on flip flops. Our guide was an 11 year old kid, who provided us with the smallest flashlights ever, with low batteries. The pitch black cave was plain dangerous in these conditions so we turned back after seeing the first big stalactite. Every year people die in these caves, but in Laos they have a good habit of wiping these kind of events under the mat to keep the money-flow steady, especially in Vang Vieng. I'm glad they cleaned up the whole tubing party scene. the parties were great, but with an average of 2 people killed each month, it was getting straight morbid. Anyways, be careful, wear proper shoes and bring your own flashlights.

Amazing cave! You get a guided tour through the cave since there are a few big holes where people could fall down.
Sometimes its very slippery... don't go with flipflops.
Please take flashlights! Including huge spiders.....

Lusi cave should be open at 8 or 9 am. We arrived at 10:30 and then 15 minutes waiting for the staff and guide. The cave is very big and mysterious. But we do not understand why we can not get to the lagoon in the cave, if we pay for the entrance to the cave. To get to the lagoon we had to pay an extra 20,000 kip per person.

Great views from atop the caves and swimming is pleasant. Have to pay 10,000 kip to go inside (guide fee).

I really enjoyed our afternoon walk out to PhaPoak and Lusi caves.
Wear decent shoes if you plan to climb PhaPoak! It is steep and quite harzardous on the bamboo ladders. The view at the top is fantastic and worth the climb. Lusi Cave was excellent. It is huge and goes on and on. We only paid to go in the cave and didn't go to the lagoon. They make you take a guide due to the size. I loved the scenery and walk in the fields just to get here.
