I was part of a group tour & so excited when we drove in to this fabulously located & beautiful looking hotel. The Lonely planet had even ranked it mid-range. Imagine my disappointment when the room had spider webs in the ceilings, & see-through sheets with blood stains (to be honest it didn't even look like well-washed blood stains - they seemed fresh).

It was definitely a pull out your sleeping bag liner type of hotel & try not to touch anything.

If I didn't have to sleep there, I would've said it was great. The view from the restaurant is priceless. And when tubing down the river, we got out at the hotel, changed & then walked the tubes back.

A survey of all the members of the group indicated that all the rooms were in the same lack of cleanliness condition & one even had ants all over it.

We booked this resort up as it appeared to be one of the nicer places around Vang Vieng (small anyway, but growing rapidly). I'll be honest in my review. For £30 a night, we were disappointed. The views however, are amazing! we had a Ban Lao, which wasn't as wonderful as I had hoped. I think one of the newer rooms over river would have been better. Balcony tiny, and sunbeds broken. They should consider putting sunbeds along the garden part for guests, and a little path down to the river.

I do recommend for the beautiful location, and Sunset Restaurant (great views - wear deet though!) the food was great and Lao coffee AMAZING !!!

Our stay in this place was extremely satisfying. We were looking exactly for something like this - nice bungalows next to the river, with great views... and that is what you get in Thavonsouk! But don't expect much more ;-) The bungalows are nice and comfy but not too clean and the staff was not that helpful. If you don't mind about that, then you have an excellent place near the river, far from the parties and noises. Breakfast and restaurant was super (although veeeeeery slow)

We stayed in this guesthouse as part of an organised trip so we didnt have any say in the matter but I definitley wouldnt have booked here myself. The location is okay a little walk from the main attractions (not that there is much in Vang Vieng), the sunset restaurant at the hotel was also nic, beautiful view of the river and good service. However, the rooms themselves were not so good, as soon as we got in the room we found a massive insect on the curtains and another member of our group had to change rooms becuase there was so much mould in their room! I was glad that we werent staying long as we didnt sleep well as we were constantly itching, paranoid about bed bugs and other insects that we kept finding in the room (including ants and leeches!)

After reading many reviews on Trip Advisor, i decided to book a River Front Suite at this resort. After reading many reviews on different hotels in Vang Vieng, this one was on the top of the list. Well.....here are my experiences there: Firstly, our room was not ready even tho we arrived after the check in time.......Overall the staff always seemed as tho they always had somewhere else they would rather be, not at all helpfull. My girlfriend (unfortunatly) left her camera sitting on the table next to the bed when we went out for dinner etc on our first night. When we went to take it with us the next morning we could not find it anywhere!!! My girlfriend (speaks Laos) informed the staff and all they could say was that we must have lost it and we were the only ones with a key!! [--]. They really did not care at all!! Not Happy at all. Overall the hotel grounds are very nice, but there was a lot of construction going on at the time of our stay, and looks like it may take a while too!. The walls between the rooms are extremely thin too and the room was infested with ants. I really thought this hotel would be great, so i was very disappointed with it.

With great reluctance we stopped at Vang Vieng as we weren’t at all looking forward to seeing the drunk backpackers we’d heard all about.

We decided to head to the Southern end of town to find accommodation and stopped in at a couple of places before ending up at Thavonsouk. As the LP says, there are many different types of rooms to choose from. Lots of the rooms were being renovated when we were there. We went for one of the bungalows right next to the river (great views from the bed!). With a little bargaining we agreed on 140000 a night.

Thavonsouk is at most a 10 minute walk into the centre of town. The room was very comfortable with a fantastic view over the river and the limestone hills beyond. The resort also has a great restaurant, again with the same fantastic view and good food to boot. We enjoyed having a couple of Beerlao in the restaurant watching all the action on and around the bridge.

When we did wander into town we were pleasantly surprised to find it relatively empty - not one drunken backpacker to be found. We even went over to Don Khang at sunset to find it deserted!

We definitely recommend Thavonsouk and Vang Vieng (in low season).

A little bit of a walk out of the centre of town but a nice, quiet location, great views over the Nam Song, quaint bungalows, clean rooms and very good value for what's provided. I'd definitely recommend this place.
