“Lovely location”
Reviewed 2 June 2014

We upgraded our room to one of the middle rooms as the cheaper rooms were close to the road and quite noisy.

Make sure that you have U.S. dollars (crisp and preferably new $100 notes) as there is no atm or card payment facilities available and they will charge like wounded bulls to drive you anywhere!!

The food is pretty good but there are plenty of other places to eat and drink all the way along the beach.

The "boardwalk" is a fantastic place to lay back and relax with a book, however, if you would like to enjoy it with a cold beer, ask them to put some on ice for you ;-).

If you play golf, there is a course near by, and the club house is currently being rebuilt (like much of Myanmar, roads etc…) its not the best course I have played in Asia, but Im a lover of the game and will play anywhere… this was booked through the hotel and in my opinion was over priced for what it was. Remember to take your own water etc as the club house is under construction.

They have wireless internet but you can't get it in your room, only at reception.

I would go back to this hotel as the rooms were nice, staff friendly, and its just a nice place with a good vibe.

Hope this has been helpful.

Room Tip: On the beach $$$ Next row back better value for money, i think.

We spent the last few days of our Myanmar holiday here and it is the ideal place to wind down after all that sightseeing. We were picked up at the airport in a vintage bus for the short journey along a road that is still being built! The hotel is set in gardens with beautiful trees, right on the beach. Rooms are very spacious with large balconies. There is plenty of choice at breakfast and excellent restaurants on the beach for a change. Lovely 2 mile walk along the beach to a fascinating fishing village, very reasonable boat trips and superb sunsets.

Room Tip: The upper rooms on the third row back offer much greater privacy than the single storey bungalows an...

At the end of a busy two week tour of Myanmar's main attractions, we finished with a one week relaxing stay in this hotel on one of Burma's few beach resorts. There as several hotels along this stretch of beach but we couldn't see any that were obviously any better than the Thande. We did not pay extra for a sea front room and were in the third row back. That mattered little. Our room was extremely spacious as was the bathroom and shower area. The room contained all the amenities you would expect from a good hotel such as safety deposit box, fridge, hair dryer, coffee/tea making facilities etc. Beds were large and comfortable. Cleanliness excellent. There are small walkways between the rooms with plenty of shrubbery, flowers, plants etc for the whole area to look attractive. The manageress of the hotel, Isabel, made herself known to us as we arrived and she was frequently seen at the breakfast area (directly next to the beach) most mornings ensuring all was well and the guests were happy. The hotel lies directly behind the beach so half a dozen steps down and you have a choice of numerous hotel loungers and sun umbrellas. Sea is very pleasant for a swim with golden sand most everywhere, just a few rather obvious rocks in the sea but these are easily avoided. The downside of the hotel we thought was that we were given vouchers for a free massage and also for two free dinners. Both were below par. The massages were pretty feeble and you get much better ones on the beach for minimal cost. The "free" meal meant you had to have the set menu. This seemed to be disorganised, and we found we had to have all four courses from one of the menus ie we couldn't choose a starter from one, a main from another - and there wasn't one that we both really like. Frankly, we didn't bother with the second freebie and ate, as usual, on the beach each evening where the food, especially the various fish and prawn dishes were superb and cost next to nothing. Equally, if you want laundry doing then take it to one of the beach vendors. Again costs nothing and yet comes back the next day freshly laundered and looking like new. Despite these shortcomings I still give the hotel top marks for the quality of the rooms, the friendliness of the staff, the good breakfasts and especially the manageress herself. Hotels are really tested when something goes wrong. My wife is an early morning jogger and ran along the beach as far as the fishermen's village at the end, when she was attacked by a dog which bit her ankles drawing blood on both sides. She had not had a Rabies jab. Back at the hotel the manageress did everything she could possibly do to ensure she got the best treatment which meant using one of the hotels delightful vintage buses to take her to the best clinic in the area (only 1 mile away as it happens) where she got excellent treatment from the English speaking doctors and nurses there. The hotel could not have been nicer or more efficient. We would love to return one day and we would certainly stay at the Thande (but still probably choose to eat our dinners in one of the many beach bars)!

Room Tip: If a sea view is vital to you, then pay a little extra for a front row room

Hi
I'm just back from Myanmar & I must write a review of my accommodation in Ngapali Beach.
The location was awesome...long beach, warm gentle surf. Of course there was a very well maintained pool & Jacuzzi to boot...
The food was fantastic...fresh, well cooked & well presented.
The bungalow rooms were very spacious & equal to most resorts worldwide.
The staff also require a special mention...friendly, efficient & always helpful.
all in all, a BIG thumbs up! Highly recommended & great value
Pamela

We stayed 10 days at Thande after a long interesting, but tiring round-trip in Myanmar and then ending up here in this beautiful place. We had our room in the first front row by the beach. Sitting on the terrace in the shade of the big trees, overlooking the Bay of Bengal was the perfect recreation for us. The beach directly underneath was fantastic, long, wide and clean. The water had a perfect temperature, so we went for several long swims every day.
Our bungalow was very spacious and clean, and behind it and in between the other bungalows was an extremely beautiful, lush, well-kept tropical garden which one walks through when going to the reception (the only place at Thande with internet-connection).
But first of all we would like to emphasize the very friendly, efficient and always smiling staff. Even a birthday-surprise was arranged for us. During our 10 days stay we got to know them so well, that it was very sad to say goodbye. We shall most certainly come back again some day . A big thank you to everyone at Thande Beach Hotel for making our stay so memorable.

Room Tip: First row bungalows are of course the best, but also the 2. and 3. rows are fine situated in the bea...

Me and my partner are travelling for several months, and this resort offered us a good standard of accommodation for a reasonable price. It's worth noting that the standard rooms are in motel style blocks at the back of the resort, so you'll need to upgrade if you want the beach villas. The resort is well looked after and the beach front is clean and the sun loungers are comfortable and offer ample shade from the sweltering sun. The resort is on the nicest stretch of beach along the bay, right next to some good beach bars and restaurants. Whilst the resort is perfectly pleasant and relaxing, it lacks a bit of charm and atmosphere, which you can find at some of the neighbouring resorts, but for a higher price. Oh, and the resort has great espresso coffee that you can buy at the bar!

Room Tip: If you're looking for something special, opt for the beach front villas which looked lovely.

We stayed at Thande for 4 nights during our 2 week Myanmar trip. 2 Twentysomethings on a bit of a budget, wanted to go to Ngapali despite it being 'high end' for Myanmar, Thande suited our budget and reviews were good. It didn't disappoint - great location on the beach with tons of little restaurants (we tried Romance, the one with green umbrellas, the one right next to the hotel can't remember its name - ate like kings for less than 10k average each night with beers! Most bars have happy hours, 2 cocktails for less than £3, insane). Pool was rarely used, loungers on the beach were always available, staff were charming and the whole place was beautiful and clean. I'd never stayed in a resort like it before but I can imagine in the Caribbean it would have been 4x the price and doubly busy.

Initially apprehensive about our Superior Room booking due to mixed reviews, including some very recent ones, but we needn't have worried. Yes we weren't on the beach but we WERE on the beach all day and night! Not worth paying the extra for unless you are absolutely loaded in my opinion. The room was clean, quiet (despite heavy construction) and bathroom was a modern clean wetroom.

Only ate breakfast and lunch at the hotel but food was good - we shared calamari for lunch everyday - restaurant looked nice but expensive with so many great options nearby.

Wifi really patchy only downside. Great for a bit of chill out time during your Myanmar trip.

Room Tip: Superior Rooms are great - don't worry about previous reviews. If you are concerned, ask to be a...
