“Best Beach Hotel Ever”
Reviewed 1 March 2012

We found the Amara Ocean Resort to be the best ever Beach Hotel we had ever stayed at. It was certainly a Paradise, with our Beachfront Bungalow looking straight out onto the most perfect white sand beach. The sunset at night from our balcony was absolutely magical. The room was perfectly appointed with a wonderfully comfortable bed and an amazing shower. There was plenty of space and everything you could possibly need, from plugs a plenty, bathrobes and slippers and all the amenities you would expect at a top hotel. We walked along the beach every day and hardly saw a soul except some little children from a local village who delighted in collecting shells for us. The whole hotel has been thoughtfully designed to the highest standards and the staff have all been excellently trained. The chef produced wonderful food. We did not have one single course that we didn't enjoy and all was beautifully presented. I agree that the Breakfast is a little lacking in choice, but it is such a minor quibble that it is hardly worth mentioning. We loved the quiet serenity of the place and our 6 nights there did not seem enough, we did not want to leave. For people craving shops, bars, action and noise they should definitely not chose this hotel, but for people who want peace, relaxation, good food and a fabulous location it is perfect. I would certainly go back.

Room Tip: Try to choose a Beach front Bungalow as you can walk straight out on to the Beach from your room

The Amara Ocean resort is the best hotel in Ngapali...no doubt about it...The Amara Ocean is the only resort located on the North of Thandwe airport, meaning it is the only hotel on a 3 Km beach... you can stroll down the beach without seeing anyone, it is a dream...There are only 28 beautifully decorated bungalows directly by the beach and the service and the staff are extremely friendly... We were curious about the other hotels and drove to the South end of the beach (30 min) to see the Sandoway and other luxurious hotels but there is no comparison. In the south end, there is one hotel next to the other and its noisy and crowded. If you want a quite, beautiful white sand beach and intimacy, this is the place to go! I really hope this place will stay as it is and there will not start building one hotel next to the other like in the south part...because now it is paradise...

Just back from a wonderful stay at Amara Ocean. Would return immediately. The personnel is so friendly and willing to assist you. The whole concept is very tasteful and the beach is just amazing, like paradise (about 3 km of white sandy beach, nobody disturbing you...).
The bungalows are great: simple but stylish (and for those wanting aircon in the room: it works!). There are 2 rows of bungalows. The second row is situated in between the ones in the front and their terrace is higher, so they also enjoy sea view.
The pool area is nice with comfortable chairs.
Food is wonderful, they have an experienced cook and portions are good (but apparantly size of portions is not up to some German 'standards' reading the previous comment). Rates for food/drinks are certainly reasonnable for this type of resort.
If one small remark could be made (although I did not disturb me), then may be breakfast is not very elaborate, but one has to realise that this is still a bit the 'end of the world' and not all is readily available. Everything you get is fresh and having your bacon and eggs with toast or enjoying a croissant in such a setting.....what does one need more?
Indeed, the hotel is very secluded and there are no restaurants / shops close by, but in a way this is part of the charm. I visited some hotels at the other side of Ngapali, where the restaurants are, and although the hotels were allright, I was so glad to be back at Amara Ocean.
If you absolutely need your slice of Emmental at breakfast, want to go out at night, can't live without your cell phone / Ipad or if you want to be entertained: stay away. This place is a gem for people looking for peace and quiet, who know how to enjoy life.
