“unforgettable vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2013

We stayed in Aureum 6 magic days and were really impressed by our villa's interior& exterior. Very cosy and functional, excellent and luxurious bed and bathroom amenities. The staff is experienced and helpfull, everywhere: in the main restaurant, at the sea-side restaurant and bar, at the Spa and reception. We went to the Spa twice for massage, body and hair treatment and were satisfied with the service. The beach and sea were marvelous. There were not so many people and we enjoyed walking along all the beach and staying for drinks and lunch. Myanmar people are very friendly, there were a lot of women selling fruits and souvenirs.
Once we took a boat (25$ for half-day!!) - for fishing, swimming and lunch-barbeque (extra-cost, naturally) on the one of the pitoresque islands. we admired every minute of it..
Close to Aureum there are a lot of restaurants - any of them is worth to eat there , but we would recommend Min Thu: I found it in the Tripadvisor's comments and think it is one of the best, if we discuss the quality of the food and excellent service.
The only problem was that in this hotel it could be a problem with currency exchange , as they do not accept some of dollars (if it has some written on it!), or if the dollars are 1996 or older..

Room Tip: beach front villa are the best, but if you live in garden villas - it is not much worse

We have just returned from Aureum and what a great stay we had, made even better by the friendly caring staff who surprised us with their excellent english.
The main entrance is discrete, unlike the new resort next door with its giant fountain in front of its entrance.
Everything you expect from a boutique hotel is provided by the Aureum. Comfortable sun beds with plenty for everyone and real quality breakfasts. This was our second stay, this time with friends, and they were astonished at the standard of the villas, the grounds and the service levels.Their words were "This is class with a capital C"
We ate out most nights, there are three good restaurants behind the hotel together with a very useful shop selling soft drinks beer ,wines and snacks but we had our best meals at the beach restaurants beyond Thande hotel.
We cannot understand why the Aureum is not in the top two for Ngapali as it has a much higher rating of 95% of very good and excellent than hotels rated above it but its position has been downgraded by one "poor" from a reviewer who had a disagreement over price, never visited and cancelled his booking.Shame as everyone we met there raved over the Aureum.
This is certainly the best luxury boutique hotel in Ngapali,do visit it and you will, like us, rate it excellent and plan to return again.

Room Tip: Away from the back road, although all the cottages have the same facilities.

Probably the best position on Ngapali Beach with a gently sloping soft sand in front of you and fabulous sunsets over the Bay of Bengal.
All the villas are identical, other than the aspect, and are really well furnished with a stylish large lounge with TV,fridge, safe and tea/coffee facilities. The bedrooms are magnificent (see photos) with the addition of a large dressing room, and bathroom. All have outside sitting area amongst the mature foliage.
Free form pool and classy loungers (plenty for everyone) on the beach with fluffy towels, under the palm umbrellas
Excellent buffet breakfast, certainly up amongst the best in Myanmar, and an Al a Carte menu for lunch and dinner which includes decent light meals of salads, sandwiches and pizzas.
Eric, the European Executive Chef, has a light touch and the dinner menu can be quite classy, but not cheap by Myanmar standards and wine and beer, naturally, are twice the price than the locals restaurants. It must be very difficult for him to compete, with his overheads, but certainly his food is of International standards.
Most guests visit on 3 day beach extensions after a tour but increasingly NB is seen as a tranquil alternative, and less humid, to Thailand and some are now visiting on 10/14 day beach holidays.Guests are mainly French,Italian and German with other Europeans and English speakers in the minority but with the promotion of flights into Yangon by Qatar Airways, and their promotions in Moscow, has resulted an increase in quality Russian visitors.
Group visitors from the UK are well down due to Government travel warnings for the Rakhine State-their British agents gave them the alternative of a beach extension in Thailand so only independent travellers from the UK who booked direct, or through a local Agent, stayed at Ngpali Beach this winter.

What makes Aureum special to us is the high quality of the staff, their friendliness, their attitude and their excellent English skills. They are a credit to their local villages and set a real high standard for other similar luxury hotels in Myanmar.
We are already planning our return.

Room Tip: All Villas are the same (other than Executive Villa) but the nearer the sea the better. Maybe avoid...

The hotel is owned by Tay Za, a notorious henchman of the Myanmar government. Should you therefore spend your tourist dollars elsewhere? The problem is that while boycotting the hotel might make you feel virtuous, it is unlikely to have any effect on Tay Za, as long as there are some tourists who either don't know or don't care about the ownership. The hotel will simply rent your room to someone else.
It is hard to fault the hotel. The staff are well trained and seem genuinely eager to please. The setting is magnificent - overlooking a beautiful, almost deserted, sandy beach. The bungalows - which comprise a living room and separate bedroom - are tastefully furnished, spacious, and well maintained, although my shower did suffer from low water pressure.
I only ate breakfast in the hotel. Breakfast in Myanmar hotels is always a bit disappointing - the bread typically has the taste and texture of cotton wool. Breakfast at The Aureum was probably the best of all the hotels I stayed at in Myanmar, with Scottish salmon and French cheese, waffles, and noodles, as well as the usual fare. The hotel has a European executive chef who appeared to be putting a lot of effort into training staff and sourcing supplies.

We stayed for two nights and room charge was $290 per night. Although it's little bit pricy but we had no choise since it was a high season. The Garden View we stayed (Room 151) was pretty much spacious for us to relax and enjoy the stay. It was not facing the ocean but we could hear the sound of wave! They have a gorgeous view of Bengal gulf. The sun set was amazing!! If you can get to the top of boat deck, it's even better. Local restaurants and a liquar shop are just few minutes walk from the resort. Don't forget to try Myambar beer and Red Mountain wine (Myanmar wine)!

The Aureum Ngapali is a very grand hotel after arriving at nearby Thandwe airport, you enter a beautiful lobby leading down to the pool and the beautiful Bay of bengal beyond that. Our welcome was very impressive, we were personally greeted by the General manager, the executive chef, etc which was alovely touch and made us feel special as well as a board annuncing our arrival and welcome in the lobby, welcome drinks, cold towels etc. We were promptly checked in while having our welcome drinks then taken to our beautiful Beachfront private pool Cottage, the only one on the property which is located overlooking the beach with its own private pool, outside living area and beautiful beachfront/poolside cottage. It is really quite spectacular and if you can afford it I would highly recommend this room, you have a large lounge area, a beautiful bedroom, dressing room, great bathroom, shower room, toilet, double vanity unit and a fabulous outside jacuzzi which seats about 6. We had friends ataying at a nearby property who used our room, pool etc every day so it was just perfect for the 5 of us. Breakfast is included and is very good with both western and asian food, I love eating the local food for breakfast and they do a great Burmese breakfast. There is all the mod cons of a large 5 star property and a super beach bar which is themed as a sailing ship right on the beach, you can sit on the top deck and watch the sun set over the beautiful bay. In front the property are some lovelly ladies selling fruit which we purchased very day as it is good to support the locals and we didnt actually eat in the property at all choosing to eat out both on other beach restaurants and in the great local restaurants right behind the hotel, the foood was always amazing and a fraction of the cost, this is my only critiscm of the Aureum, the prices for everything ie minibar, drinks, meals etc is astronomical incomparison to what things cost 10 foot outside, so we shopped at the local shop, bought our own beers, cokes etc and put them in the fridge, we saved a fortune doing this. Its a shame as we would of liked to eat in the hotel but the prices were so high we just could not justify the difference from eating outside , the benefit of course is you get out and experienc real Burma whic is literally outside the doorstep of the hotel. Overall a fabulous experience and I would highly recommend the Aureum

Room Tip: Room 100, the beachfront cottage with its own private pool, worth every penny for the extra

Glorious beach, very very large rooms, great top deck boat beach bar, food very good, f&b expensive compared to beach bars and other less pricey hotels but how nice to sit and listen to the ocean, rather than the road in the local restaurants. Good wine store outside hotel and to the right to arbitrage ave. cost . Staff amongst the best have Ever seen even in SE Asia, management and chief chef always keeping a watchful eye. Loved it, would return tomorrow.
