“very noisy since 2014, not like the years before”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 February 2014

in January 2014 we stayed in Aureum Ngapali for the fourth time.
We loved that Hotel because of its friendly staff and the silence there, it was a pretty quiet place to relax. We always stayed in the expensive Executive Villa, this year too.
Unfortunately the management has changed and silence is gone now :
There are traditional performances now at the evening with dance and traditional music. That is ok, but there are now also partys for traveling groups at the Boat Bar at the beach, starting about 6 p.m. and not ending before midnight or before complaining at the reception. We stayed there for 10 nights and every second or third night there were these loud events. Once we had to change the room because there was no sleep due to the loud music.
all in all we had 3 or 4 quiet nights in the Executive Villa, out of 10 nights !!!

It seems that the management is not interested in individual guests who stay for 10 nights, instead they prefer travelling groups which stay just 2 nights but with many people.

Anyway, the people of the staff are phantastic and we really love them.
So sorry, but Aureum Ngapali is becoming the "Ballermann" of Myanmar :-(
As the Aureum changes so the guests are changing, it is no longer the same place it has been the years before..

So if you are looking for a quiet place to relax, the Aureum Palace Ngapali is defintely the wrong decission. No other Hotel at the Ngapali Beach has these loud evening events, as far as we know and as we have been told...

Many other private frequent guests were disappointed because of the loud music and they complained too....

We are very sad that the Aureum Palace has changed that way...

Room Tip: there is no good room because the music during the partys is audible in every room, you can choose b...

Dear Mr./Mrs. Walter,

Thank you very much for your feedback. We are really sorry for you and please accept my apology. As we replied you by mail, we reconfirm the music, if there is, will end latest 11:00 p.m. It is not regular events and we have talked to the organizer concerned, to keep our guests not disturbed and have a good relax. It is our pleasure you have decided to come back in next year and we have reverse a room as request. We look forward to welcoming back in 2014.

Best regards,

Zaw

Need a marvelous location, beautiful facilities and wonderfully gentle people? Visit the Aureum. But if you want to eat well, get email, and have a shower that does not both scald and freeze you almost at the same time then look elsewhere. A pity for such a nice - and expensive, oh so expensive - hotel.

Dear Mr. Roberto Zach,

Thank you very much for your review. We have taken necessary actions. Our restaurant is recommended by many guests for delicious food, service, health and hygiene. To keep that quality and standards, the rate is different compare to other outside restaurants. Interconnection was poor before and after the government permission on new project, we have upgraded our internet connection since 29th, January 2014. It is now very good. Hot and cold shower is available and to avoid both scald and freeze at the same time, we have fixed proper mixing valve. The room rate will depend on season and occupancy level. Time to time we are running promotional activities and please feel free to contact us to enjoy best available rate. We would like to invite you to visit again and if you require you can contact me.

Best regards,

Zaw

We were in villa 123, which is the best located villa, great view of the beach and a few meters from the swimming pool. The villa consists of a sitting room with TV and CD and DVD player, a bed room with separate AC, a changing room and bathroom. There is also an area outside with jacuzzi, shower and sun-beds. Next to the main door there are 2 chairs and table to enjoy the sunset. Swimming pool is huge and most of the time empty. Beach is marvellous, very quiet.
We enjoyed our stay very much.
On our first day we ate at a restaurant along the street in front of the hotel and had a drink at one of the many restaurant/bars on the beach, that night we were both sick... Restaurant and bar at the hotel are expensive but probably safer....
Wifi is slow, to call europe it cost 8 dollars/minute and you must do it at reception.
We went to visit the charity english school at the nearby village, hiring of the car cost 20 dolars/hour, which was insane....

Dear Madam,
Kay-bologna-zurich

Thank you so much for your positive review and we are happy to read you had enjoyed your stay, our resort, the room, the view, pool and beach. It is correct that our restaurant is safer and food is delicious, better service too. Wifi was poor before due to beyond our control. We have now upgraded internet connection and it is absolutely better. Please visit us again and allow us to take care of your stay.

Once you enter the hotel you find yourself in pacifying atmosphere of harmony and emotional comfort. The staff is very friendly, smily and helpful - they greet you with sincere smiles and complimentary fruit cocktail. The only word you need to learn - 'mingalabar' (meaning 'hello'). This word lights up smiles on faces and make opened local people to be even more friendly-))

The rooms are spacious and have two separate A/C for the lounge and for the bedroom, flat TV (15 satellite channels), CD music stereo, safe deposit box. You get your bathrobe, slippers and rubber slippers. Room cleaning is twice a day.
The breakfast buffet is served 07:00-10:30 a.m. The choice is not rich but you always can get your bacon, sautéed veggies and mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, sausages and have made-for-you eggs and pancakes. There is always some ham, salami, smoked mackerel and one type of cheese and also myanmar noodle soup and fried rice is every day in the buffet. The coffee and the choice of fresh juice could be better though.
The main menu has variety of european dishes, thanks to French Chef. The average bill for two would be approx.$60 - $80 that is 3-4 times of street restaurants' prices.
Myanmar beer and whisky is good, but the don't you take their rum - cuba libre is awful.

The swimming pool is pretty large and beautiful, gets cleaned daily. I used it only once, it's OK.

The hotel Spa center is tiny and nice. But masage is very gentle, light and doesn't really give much effect. I tried Myanmar traditional massage (1 hour) and foot massage (1 hour) - didn't like neither.

Wi-Fi internet has few AP so you have it all over hotel but it does not help with speed of connection - it hardly beats 10 kb/sec. The reception is the only moretheless decent internet area.
There is small souvenir shop and small business center

One of the real pearls of the hotel - is the beach and sea! Wide sand strip lasts miles away and rare people you can meet on your way! The sea is absolutely clean, acclivous and very warm, there are no one to harm you.
Sunbeds and towels are free of charge and always available without any limitation.

There's not much to see around but the hotel offers boat and fishing trips and also visiting a fisherman village.
By the way the hotel has complimentary airport transfer.

While staying at the Aureum Palace Resort & Spa we never heard 'No' and faced with no problems. And it was the most relaxing vacation we ever had!

Chei-Zu Tin-Bar-Te!! (meaning thank you)

Room Tip: Cottage #100 is the only executive villa with private pool and private beach exit. The ocean view...

We stayed in Aureum 6 magic days and were really impressed by our villa's interior& exterior. Very cosy and functional, excellent and luxurious bed and bathroom amenities. The staff is experienced and helpfull, everywhere: in the main restaurant, at the sea-side restaurant and bar, at the Spa and reception. We went to the Spa twice for massage, body and hair treatment and were satisfied with the service. The beach and sea were marvelous. There were not so many people and we enjoyed walking along all the beach and staying for drinks and lunch. Myanmar people are very friendly, there were a lot of women selling fruits and souvenirs.
Once we took a boat (25$ for half-day!!) - for fishing, swimming and lunch-barbeque (extra-cost, naturally) on the one of the pitoresque islands. we admired every minute of it..
Close to Aureum there are a lot of restaurants - any of them is worth to eat there , but we would recommend Min Thu: I found it in the Tripadvisor's comments and think it is one of the best, if we discuss the quality of the food and excellent service.
The only problem was that in this hotel it could be a problem with currency exchange , as they do not accept some of dollars (if it has some written on it!), or if the dollars are 1996 or older..

Room Tip: beach front villa are the best, but if you live in garden villas - it is not much worse

We have just returned from Aureum and what a great stay we had, made even better by the friendly caring staff who surprised us with their excellent english.
The main entrance is discrete, unlike the new resort next door with its giant fountain in front of its entrance.
Everything you expect from a boutique hotel is provided by the Aureum. Comfortable sun beds with plenty for everyone and real quality breakfasts. This was our second stay, this time with friends, and they were astonished at the standard of the villas, the grounds and the service levels.Their words were "This is class with a capital C"
We ate out most nights, there are three good restaurants behind the hotel together with a very useful shop selling soft drinks beer ,wines and snacks but we had our best meals at the beach restaurants beyond Thande hotel.
We cannot understand why the Aureum is not in the top two for Ngapali as it has a much higher rating of 95% of very good and excellent than hotels rated above it but its position has been downgraded by one "poor" from a reviewer who had a disagreement over price, never visited and cancelled his booking.Shame as everyone we met there raved over the Aureum.
This is certainly the best luxury boutique hotel in Ngapali,do visit it and you will, like us, rate it excellent and plan to return again.

Room Tip: Away from the back road, although all the cottages have the same facilities.

Probably the best position on Ngapali Beach with a gently sloping soft sand in front of you and fabulous sunsets over the Bay of Bengal.
All the villas are identical, other than the aspect, and are really well furnished with a stylish large lounge with TV,fridge, safe and tea/coffee facilities. The bedrooms are magnificent (see photos) with the addition of a large dressing room, and bathroom. All have outside sitting area amongst the mature foliage.
Free form pool and classy loungers (plenty for everyone) on the beach with fluffy towels, under the palm umbrellas
Excellent buffet breakfast, certainly up amongst the best in Myanmar, and an Al a Carte menu for lunch and dinner which includes decent light meals of salads, sandwiches and pizzas.
Eric, the European Executive Chef, has a light touch and the dinner menu can be quite classy, but not cheap by Myanmar standards and wine and beer, naturally, are twice the price than the locals restaurants. It must be very difficult for him to compete, with his overheads, but certainly his food is of International standards.
Most guests visit on 3 day beach extensions after a tour but increasingly NB is seen as a tranquil alternative, and less humid, to Thailand and some are now visiting on 10/14 day beach holidays.Guests are mainly French,Italian and German with other Europeans and English speakers in the minority but with the promotion of flights into Yangon by Qatar Airways, and their promotions in Moscow, has resulted an increase in quality Russian visitors.
Group visitors from the UK are well down due to Government travel warnings for the Rakhine State-their British agents gave them the alternative of a beach extension in Thailand so only independent travellers from the UK who booked direct, or through a local Agent, stayed at Ngpali Beach this winter.

What makes Aureum special to us is the high quality of the staff, their friendliness, their attitude and their excellent English skills. They are a credit to their local villages and set a real high standard for other similar luxury hotels in Myanmar.
We are already planning our return.
