We stayed in this hotel for a week in January 2010. 'Amazing' is a good hotel (and may actually be a good value, although I am not sure how much we paid for it, as we got a package from a local agent for the whole of Myanmar trip), however, please do not be disillusioned by its current tripadvisor rating, it may be explained by the fact that the hotel management encourages tourists to leave their reviews on tripadvisor.com by placing a special note in the business center. There are much better top end hotels on the beach (at least Sandoway, Aureum and Amata, where we usually went to for dinners and SPA), however, in our case all the top end hotels were fully booked and we had to go with Amazing. We were generally satisfied and and here is a short description of what you should expect in Amazing:
As pointed out in other reviews, the hotel is located near airport, and is the only one in that area. As a result, if you want to go out, for example, for dinner to other places, you will need to take a taxi (unless you go to Aureum, then they will send a car for you). However, the beach is very clean and beautiful, and sunsets are amazing. So unless you want to be in the middle of the local village, restaurants and other hotels, Amazing's location should not be a problem. However, I would recommend the management to plant more trees and plants, as the hotel area is a bit empty compared to some other Ngapali resorts.
This is one of the best things about the hotel. While the rooms may not be anything special (again, as compared to the 3 previously mentioned hotels, which we visited), they are clean, spacious and all have sea view. The bathroom is also quite big. The only problem could be the smell of something being burned, as there are some local settlements close to the hotel, and it seems that the management cannot do much about it.
The hotel restaurant is very touristic and doesn't offer much variety. The food is ok, although some dishes are not very tasty. Again, you can go out and try other places for dinner. Sometimes there is a very strong smell of food, especially at the reception area and then it becomes quite unbearable. But luckily it's not always like that. Breakfasts are just ok, but when fruit is fresh, it is enjoyable.
Internet is available for free in the business center which is still quite rare in Myanmar (although seems to be common for Ngapali beach), so this was a pleasant surprise.
SPA and SPA facilities were pretty bad, to our taste. We went there for one massage and I couldn't wait when it would be over. This is one area which really needs improvement.
Conclusion: if we go back to Ngapali, we would probably choose another hotel, but if you get a good price for Amazing (and if the price is important for you), then you may get a very good value for it.
