“Some good and some bad”
Reviewed 8 February 2014

I debated whether to give my review two stars, but in the end opted for three. Why? Well, first, the good. This Intercon is at a great location - Alpensia ski resort - and you can glide off the slopes, drop off your skis, and be back at your room in five minutes. They have the usual amenities you'd expect from such a hotel... except a pool.

And here's where some of the negatives start. OK, no pool. Yes, there's a water park 10 minutes away, for 30,000 KW or something ridiculous. But it's still a ten-minute slog through the cold, and 30,000 KW.

Then there's the taxi mafia. In order to go to the nearby Yong Pyong ski resort (probably two km away at most), you have to hire a taxi, which starts charging you from when they get the call. So, a 6,000 KW ride costs you 16,000 KW. No shuttle provided.

Again, these are nickel-dime quibbles. But here's another - lack of English speakers. Or anything other than Korean speakers. Yes, I know I'm in Korea, and I picked up some basic phrases. But for an international chain of this reputation, I'd expect a few relatively fluent speakers on staff. Anything beyond ordering a refill can take a while to translate. Trying to arrange our trip back to Seoul was far more of a hassle than it should have been.

So, be forewarned! If you're staying at Alpensia and skiing Alpensia and don't care about a pool and speak decent Korean, this is a great deal. However, if you want to ski the much better slopes of Yong Pyong, take a swim after, and don't speak Korean, think twice.

This is a nice hotel but there is no swimming pool, however, there is a Water Park;Ocean 700, not far away. The bed, which was my main concern, was large enough for my family of 2 adults and a 7 years old; we slept comfortable. What i like about this hotel: the welcoming smell at its lobby, its staff is always smiling and would always says hello, quite hotel, its large fire place, and it is walking distance to the ski slope as well as supermarkets, ATM machines, cafe and restaurant;you really need not worry about food and drinks. This hotel serves breakfast, of course, but i didn't use that service; i was happy eating in nearby places called Angels-In-Us-Coffee where it serves nice coffee, cakes and pastries. I hope this review is useful to you.

Stayed here with tour group in early December. Room is new, tip-top and excellent. comes with bathtub. Bed is very comfortable. They have pillow menu which I am able to get my latex/foam type of pillow. I'm not a soft-pillow person.
Spa closed too early. last call 7:30pm. couldn't make it because we are going out for dinner at 6:30pm.
Lobby is very spacious and beautifully decorated. there is a 10mins walk to the shops area which is nearer to Holiday Inn.

Tour is organised by Travel Smart Sdn. Bhd. and they can be contacted at +60321484848 or info@travelsmart.com.my

The Intercontinental Alpensia is a five minute walk away from ski facilities. If you do not want to dine in the hotel, there's many food options available around the area as well, mostly Korean cuisine.
The room had all the basic amenities needed and was pretty spacious. Housekeeping could be better improved but overall a satisfactory stay.

I feel the best time of the year to stay at InterContinental Alpensia, one of the hotels set in a relatively big resort in Pyeongchang area, is in winter when one would get to see the entire area covered in a coat of white snow. Located next to the ski slopes, it is the most upscale accommodation in this resort.

If you stay there, you can wander outside the hotel and check out the other restaurants, grocery store, convenience store, and entertainment centres around the area. We ate at a small Korean restaurant and the food was quite delectable - noodles served piping hot and chicken, fish fried to crisp perfection.

If you do go during winter, make sure you invest in a good pair of non-slip boots as the place can become very slippery especially when the snow melts and turns into ice. It can get very cold too, so good thermals and insulation is absolutely necessary if one is not to freeze to death whilst wandering outdoors!

Rooms at this hotel are of decent size and clean. The lounge area with a fireplace is cosy and inviting. Reception staff were courteous and, though not very fluent in English, tried their best to respond to our queries. There is also a gym, a spa, a gift shop and restaurants located within the hotel. We did not get a room with a view as ours faced the front of the building. For best views, request for a room facing the ski slopes. I am sure it would be a beautiful sight and at night, you can get to see the ski lift, all lit, going up and down the slopes too.

The IC Alpensia resort is a bit of an oasis in an otherwise a desolate countryside. You will find hospitality and service usually reserved at 5 star hotels in top city destinations. This is probably this property's only concern. Due to this mismatch, a stark contrast is immediately noticeable - a sensation felt in highly secure hotels in downtrodden areas - and travelers will find a lack of dining options beyond the immediate compounds of the hotel. Pyeongchang by no means is downtrodden or dangerous, its just that its a bit humdrum in and of itself, except for the skiing and golfing ofcourse.

The hotel stay was overall comfortable. Though there are some areas that needs improvement like wifi, heater in water closet, bidet .. It may be considered as minor but if those amenities are present it would have been perfect. The resort is very nice. It was snowing when we went there. The kids went skiing and they love it...
