We can enthusiastically recommend using Whales Lanka as a company to organise a whale watching trip. We contacted the company from the UK and agreed arrangements over the internet with Mahesh. Mahesh was very helpful and provide all the information we need with prices for each component. We were staying over 2 hours away from the whale watching area but that was no problem as Mahesh arranged afternoon pickup and transport the day before, overnight accommodation at his family’s Bayview hotel (pleasant enough) on the wonderful Weligama surf beach (stunning), breakfast and evening meals (good) , pickup and transport to the harbour, the trip and lunch, collection after the trip and transport back to our hotel with several impromptu sightseeing stops on the journey back including, stilt fishermen, a turtle sanctuary and a number of temples, etc. All of the above cost us less than 40,000 rupees or £200. We saw loads of whales, dolphins and flying fish. The whales were very helpful and provided a great deal of photo opportunities.

Thank you Mahesh and we have no hesitation in recommending your company.

We went to make an early morning (6am) whales watching out 10 miles from Mirissa harbour (southern province 40 km under Galle).
We've used a local fisherman boat, not really speed and confortable but good enough to make us happy to watch at whales passing from southern Sri lankan beaches to migrate to souther Indian ocean toward Antartide pole.
Nice wiew especially if it is the frist time to see so big animals moving like a dancer in the water; even if it appears litle touristic tour, I'll suggest to go and spend half a day in the middle of the ocean watching at this starnge phenomena, you can't see everywhere in the world, but only in few palces; this is one so you can't miss it.
Attractive and nice.
