Ceylon Tea Trails is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy the beautiful views across rolling hills of tea country. We stayed at the Norwood bungalow and couldn't have been happier with the location - it is set high in the hills so you'll enjoy a very peaceful and quiet stay. Our butler Jagath was absolutely wonderful and catered to our every need. As soon as you see his friendly and warm smile greeting you, you'll know you are in good hands. The food is incredible at Tea Trails (I would recommend the local curries) and we particularly liked having the chef talk us through the menu choices each night. The room was wonderful and I especially loved the Sri Lankan history books provided in our room. We did a tour of the tea factory and thoroughly enjoyed it. Having had the entire process of how tea is produced explained to us by Andrew Taylor, I will never look at a cup of tea the same way again. The tour was fascinating and probably the highlight of our Tea Trails stay. I would definitely recommend this hotel and particularly Norwood bungalow.

We stayed at Ceylon tea trails for three nights during our honeymoon. We were in the Wyatt room in the Norwood bungalow which we were told before booking was smaller then others so naturally we were a little nervous. However the room which is new this year was simply lovely, we managed to peak a few of the others and it is no poor relation!

The food and service is exceptional. With everything included the chef comes to discuss your own menu for lunch and dinner (both at least 3 courses!). As a vegetarian this was great as the chef was understanding and attentive. With a cooked breakfast and afternoon tea as well you will leave more portly then you arrived for sure but it is worth it! The selection of included drinks is also good enough meaning you really don't spend extra unless you want to.

Activity wise, the included tea tour is interesting, the Adams peak walk is highly recommended though with a 1.30am start only for longer stays (eg. 3 nights) In my opinion or you will not get to advantage of the bungalow. The guide made sure we got a great view of the sunrise and shadow, with medium fitness it was a challenge but doable.

The white water rafting was not possible so be ware of that as we took the 1.5hour drive to the river before the company told us the level was too low so just had to come back again. This however was no fault of the bungalow who more then made up for it.

Overall, yes this place is expensive but you get great food and drink with that, possibly the best service in Sri Lanka and the opportunity to truly relax and do nothing if you desire.

Stayed here with the missus over Christmas and had a terrific stay. Main points are listed below but if you are considering this place, I would highly recommend it despite being expensive. We had a very relaxing stay and felt very refreshed after the hectic and disappointing Kandy. Not normally sold on views/location, this place was worth it for being like very few places we have been. Good to meet new people in a fairly sociable (but sometimes mixed bag) pre-dinner drinks environment. We were in Castlereagh (Palmer room). I have also listed points that could be worked on to make this pace first class. This hotel is clearly under-challenged in the area and has the advantage of being the first there - they must not rest on their laurels.

Positives:
- Picturesque - beautiful surroundings
- Relaxing - felt like we were there for a week
- Quiet/Remote (+/-)
- Norwood Tea factory tour - worth doing.
- Good shower/bath
- Walks/Hikes around the plantation
- Felt like another, older time
- Service overall was good, but could always be better (learning names, preferences, suggesting more things to do, pre-empting wishes)

Negatives/Areas to improve:
- Food - whilst good, is not first class: Breakfast is OK but somewhat limited in choice for a place like this. Lunches and afternoon teas were good and dinner could be polished up a bit.
- Booze - they need to re-assess their house wine selection, have newer glassware in the bar and again, polish this aspect up a bit. Whilst perfectly drinkable, it was not the best. There are premium wines/spirits available at extra cost but this was not something that we or many others would want to incur
- Tables are very close together so with a full house, conversations are often overheard and therefore reduces people to whispers while dining. Results in a slight lack in atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ours was Palmer (corner room) - had a lovely, spacious garden outside that caught the sun for a long...

Spent two nights here, and loved every minute despite the long drive; tip no 1 - try to get the seaplane transfer as part of your itinerary. In fact, get your travel agent to do it for you. The sight of the Cinnamon Air seaplane gliding in to land on the lake, and the thought that some lucky visitor has just had the most marvellous transfer, was amazing.
Not a lot to do here, but enough to keep you busy. The two hour trip to the tea factory was surprisingly enjoyable. Tip no 2 - the journey to the tea factory from the Norwood bungalow that we stayed in was only 10 minutes, but it was 45 minutes from some of the other bungalows. Norwood doesn't have a lake view, but it has got a magnificent location high in the hills with a wide-spanning view. The one hour walk (all the energy we could muster!) was also enjoyable, with the guide to point out things of interest.
Accommodation - absolutely beautiful. Spacious, well equipped (the Andrew room we had with a beautiful free- standing claw-foot bath and his'n'hers sinks could, not be faulted). The newly built dining room conservatory extension was also really nice.
Staff - could not be more friendly and obliging. Attentive, but not intrusive. This included the chef coming to you every day to ask what you wanted for dinner that night!!! In the end, we went with his suggestion every day, and I don't think you can get better food. Beware the Sri Lankan curry special - you won't want to eat for a week. And they ask you if you want more!!!
Beautiful, huge swimming pool, so even when the bungalow is full, there was plenty of space to feel uncrowned.
A beautiful two night stay, especially if you've just come from a few days hectic temple visiting - this will certainly give you the surroundings to recharge your batteries. Just don't forget that seaplane transfer!

Excellent. Very friendly staff. Great views and rooms. What's not to like. Adam's Peak was quite tiring and the hotel guide was nice but not completely fluent in English. We managed to get to the top but we're then crushed and could not leave for an hour. Stuck there behind a crowd of people not being able to see the sun rise :( So do not do that on a public holiday or Sunday

Room Tip: We went to Summerville-no glitch and very friendly hosts
