“A tase of old Thailand”

Stayed at the Centara Chaan Resort. It is has a great, unspoiled beach. No jet skis, banana boats, etc. A bit remote, and most of the staff only speaks Thai. Very nice, large rooms and a nice pool. Great for a getaway. If you want speed and nightlife, go to Phuket or Samui.

Stayed at a beach front bungalow wirh my wife and 2 young kids. The location of the bungalow was nice. The beach was just a hop away from your room. The beach was clean with small sand crabs and shells. The sand was not powderly white though. The sea was quite calm when we went, clean but not that clear. The breakfast was just ok with an egg station and Thai food, nothing fancy but will keep you full. There were insects everywhere when we went. Mostly outside the room on the balcony and in the jacuzzi (only beachfront rooms have a jacuzzi, other room types have fixed shower head in the shower which would be troublesome to bathe your young ones). Some slipped through the door and into the bedroom which I reluctantly had to exterminate because I couldn't risk them crawling on my kids. Guess that was the main reason there were so many huge geckos in the resort preying on these insects. Hadn't mentioned this resort is nested in the middle of a jungle had I? Even though the resort was booked up when we went but I didn't see that many people around since the resort has only 44 rooms. You really need to have a car to go there unless you decide to stay in and eat in during your stay since there was no restaurant or convenient store nearby. In summary, i would rate this resort at only 3 out of 5.

What can I say this place is unique, the perfect place to relax.
It has a really nice beach just in front of the resort, the small resort has everything you need, the rooms are also over standard and the staff is super friendly. The restaurant make some really fabulous thai food.

What make this place unique is the things above combined with the total relaxyness, here a no shops, no traffic noise, and not overcroweded with other turists because of the size of the resort, a thing which has become hard to find in Thailand.

Other great facilities there is free kayaks, you can in fact access a mangrove lagune about 20min of paddling away.
The restaurent/pool area has free wifi.

Since the first two times we visited this resort a german GM has taking over and she has done a great job improving the last few details.

We stayed 5 nights in the Beachfront bungalow. This place is just amazing - so pristine and still well preserved. The beach is one of the most beautiful in Thailand very clean and with the whitest sand... If you are looking for a really quiet and authentic place, you will love it. There is no music, no stress, no nightlife, no boats, no vendors on the beach and no any other resorts or restaurants in walking distance...

So be ready to stay in an isolated place but if you are looking for some authentic Thai experience and you have your own car, you can easily do one day trips to visit some beautiful waterfalls, wats (Thai temples), fisherman villages, or just go to check the Thai-cambodian border with its border market.

Before staying in the resort we had read a few negative reviews about the food but we've been VERY positively surprised. There is a huge choice of Thai, Western or Kids food in the menu and both the Thai and even the Western cuisine was really delicious with unexpectedly fast service. The prices are very fair, only the drinks seem to be a bit overpriced. The restaurant is open air shaded by a roof. (alternatively, you have to drive 5-10 km to find local Thai restaurants at next beaches)

The swimming pool is superb - about 20-25 meters long, with infinity view directly towards the sea. There is a pool's corner for kids (.60m deep). The resort provides reclining chairs around the pool and on the beach. Several activities are all provided complimentary: kayak, windsurf, volleyball, badminton, Thai boxing, pingpong...

The Hotel Manager - German nationality - was very attentive to all guests, nice with everyone and eager to provide useful local hints & improve services whenever needed.

Free wifi internet near the pool & restaurant.

Overall great stay for anyone looking for relaxation, mid-size resort and out of the beaten tracks (provided you have your own transportation). The facilities were all great - the only possible areas of improvement in our view was 1. a bit more maintenance here and there (wooden terraces, pool's metal trail between kids & adults areas), 2. some refresh of the kids' playground. But nothing really bad.

Room Tip: Beachfront Bungalow are by far the best.

What a dump ! We arrived at Centara Chaan Talay from the Cambodiaan side of the border... after a long travel , we were excited at the prospect of a lovely space to unwind in.
What a dissapointment. We were shown to our room which was right next to the restaurant in a block of 4. The room was filthy. There is a connecting door with the suite next door , and lo and behold , whilst I was changing , a guest from that room walked straight into ours !

Unidentifiable stains on the bed and side tables. Food stains on the mat and chair. The lounger outside was so full of dirt and hair , that we couldn't sit on it.

We asked for someone to come and clean the room. After an hour , no one came.... so we went in hunt for the manager. She is obviously overwhelmed , to say the least. As she left us sitting about for another hour and a half , and then changed our room... to another equally as dingy and smelly... not quite so dirty.... but tired and damp.... just like the rest of the hotel.

In our bathroom , there was a a wooden box of shampoo etc... the box was falling to bits , sawdust .. the works , holes in the sheets , and hair all over the bathroom... nice !!!
The manager, far from being overwhelmed , seems to walk about all day with her dog... quality control is not on the menu here folks.

I read some of the other reviews posted about the hotel here...and was wondering what everyone was on about..... what a dissapointment !

Badly , cheaply built , the resort looks like it's 20 years old.... even though it's only coming up to 4 years old !!!! It reminded us of those old tired hotels in Bali , with the black mould all over the walls and smell of age and damp.

The staff were friendly enough... but this is Thailand ......so it's what we expect.
The breakfast was like the rest of the hotel... a little tired and off the mark !

The one redeeming factor is the beach. There's a long spit of lovely powder white sand and a great swimming beach.....

However , there is an archipelago of 52 islands just off the coast of Traat.... if you're looking for a beach and a stunning location , rather go to koh Kood , Koh Mak or one of the outlaying islands , stay in one of the cute boutique type resorts in paradise and give this dump a total miss !

Room Tip: It's only worth satying here if you choose one of the "villas" on the beach...

We stayed for a night there a few days before Christmas. The hotel was not fully booked. Maybe that's why the hotel staff were few, and not so attentive. The room was clean but was designed like a regular town-houses you see in outskirts of Bangkok, with cheap aluminum frames, bulk faux boutique furniture. It was like you enter an old, 80s era resort. Breakfast was so-so, uninspired choices, with dirty glasses for your fake orange juice. This resort can be greatly improved with the re-management, re-landscaping, and re-furnishing. The best thing for now is that there are cute cats around. These cats want to enter your villa and sleep on your sofa or in your bed. They were clean and I found them adorable.

Room Tip: Choose the ones closest to the beach.
