I traveled with my wife and ten-year-old to Little Corn Island two years ago, well before Yemaya was open. We stayed at Casa Iguana, which was in bad need of repairs then and hasn’t yet received them. Yemaya is entirely different from anything else on the island. Many of the places on LCI offer stunning views. None offer the stunning views of Yemaya while also offering luxury accommodations. AC would be out of place, and I am glad that Yemaya doesn’t offer any. Instead you have two powerful ceiling fans at your disposal; we were always comfortable at night.

To a person, everyone on the staff was uber-helpful and friendly. They all speak excellent English, though you can continue practicing your Spanish if you’d prefer. The smoothies are amazing and run between $6-$8 with all sorts of tropical fruits/flavors available.
If you are looking for quiet, this is the place to choose. Little Corn Beach and Bungalow with the Turned Turtle Restaurant is a great place, but centered amongst other lodging choices. Yemaya sits by itself. It is absolutely stunningly quiet here. As just one example, if you choose to go snorkeling here, you are likely to have it to yourselves, whereas the other places use the same service to take you out to the reefs where you are likely to share it with others on the same boat. That isn’t a big deal, but snorkeling with my wife and son by ourselves was amazing.

After two trips to LCI, I simply bypass Big Corn, and I think it a mistake to do otherwise. You’ll want to spend as much time as possible on LCI. The panga has proven very reliable for us, with no problems two years ago or this year. When you arrive at Yemaya after being quickly taxied there by boat (you are greeted at the dock with your name on a card), you will immediately feel any stress you are carrying ooze out of you. Our only mistake was only booking four nights. Stupid. Stupid. Stupid!

The food in the restaurant is very tasty with very generous portions. We ended up splitting an entre on several occasions.

It's next to impossible to find anything worthwile to criticize - this recently opened place has a
wonderful location at the northern tip of the island, spacious spotless rooms furnished in tasteful materials, sophisticated food with a spicy touch due to the Thai advisor. Makes you want to stay longer. If it's within your budget do yourself a favour, you may feel it's worth more than you paid. The village is a 20min walk away on a well marked path- the staff walk it every day. They're nice too.

Wow, wow, wow! My husband and I just returned from Yemaya. What an amazing, restful, peaceful, and enjoyable place. The pictures on the web site do not do this place justice. When you arrive and are welcomed on the beach, you feel like you have stepped onto fantasy island. The sea breeze fills your nose, and your long journey and stress from the modern world is melted away by the warm sunshine and friendly smiles. Everything about this place is exceeds expectations.
The accommodations are just as they appear in the photos, but what you don't get from the photos is the feel of the soft sheets on the very comfortable bed. You can't see from the photos how awesome the locally made soap/shampoo and conditioner smell and feel. You can't capture the sea breeze and sound of the waves through the night in a photo.
The restaurant and bar is comfortable and offers beautiful views of the sea and surroundings. Your lunch and dinner choices are written on a chalk board and no matter what you choose you will not be disappointed. Everything is fresh, seasoned perfect, and absolutely delicious. My husband and I would get an appetizer and entree each and share and laugh and enjoy! The cocktails are equally amazing and perfectly suited for the cuisine.
This place is the perfect place to unplug from the world and focus on what ever level of adventure you desire. If your thing is snorkeling, it's included. Kayaking, included. Yoga, yep that too. The islanders are friendly and not pushy. They want your experience to be a memorable one so that you will come back and bring friends. It is a very laid back pace, so set you watch for the slower pace of island time.

We went here for part of a honeymoon trip and so decided to splurge a bit on accommodations. We were a little doubtful whether the price difference between Yemaya and the other higher-end options would be justified. We were also a little doubtful about the Trip Advisor reviews (all five-star when we booked). Yemaya, however, lived up to its reputation. This place is what five-star ratings should be reserved for.

I'd almost rather help keep this place a secret, but it's only fair to add to the praise!

Because we ended up on a chartered panga to Yemaya with a yoga group, we skipped the stop at LCI landing and went directly from BCI right to the beach in front of our cabin. No dock, even; we just took off our shoes and jumped right onto the beach. No dragging luggage to reception or anything like that--Michael and Julia met the whole group right on the beach and took us directly to our room.

We loved everything about this place. Luxury without the awkwardness of obsequious formal service or the guilt of waste (surely they compost, but they also turn juicer leftovers into really good crackers!). The staff are amazing, to a person. A good mix of locals and north Americans. I think everybody who worked in the clubhouse area personally introduced himself or herself to us at one point or another. And they were all really cool.

Pros:
Smoothies. in three years, you'll be buying these recipes in cookbook form. Pretty much all local--as in harvested on the property--ingredients.

The rest of the menu. Excellent food. We ate elsewhere only to spread around some tourism dollars and see some other parts of the island. Everything we ate at Yemaya was excellent.

The 28+ yoga instructors whose retreat filled most of the cabins during our stay. Remote islands are even more relaxing when you're surrounded by yoga types beaming with good cheer.

Cabins. Clean and airy and comfortable. All the amenities except for AC, which for everybody except me is entirely beside the point. You get a beautiful Caribbean cross-breeze, and the ceiling fans could knock over lawn chairs if you ran them at top speed. Loved the showers, and the porch on the beach, and the hammocks. I started missing the room the second we checked out.

Sea kayaks and snorkling. Panga rides out to the deeper reefs for snorkling, though you could do this right in front of your cabin, too. They were working on getting SUPs, and there are a few places around the island with little waves. We were told there wasn't any actual surfing, but when conditions are just right, you could probably get a wave--on our way back to the big island, we boated right through a point break (Gun Point?) that was working pretty well.

Diving, Kite Surfing, and other water activities also available off-site. We did an afternoon at Derek's Place and had a blast.

Responsible tourism. Even the history of the property impresses. From what we could tell, the people who developed the place did it right.

Cons:
For the sake of argument, you could probably come up with a critical observation, but it would be ungenerous. If you don't like Yemaya, you've come to the wrong island.

Dear Matt,

Words cannot express how much we enjoyed having you & Kathryn here for your honeymoon! We really loved getting to know you both. Thank you SO much for the praise-even though it does mean letting the word out-haha. We hope you are able to come do a Shakespeare retreat here someday too! ;) If not, you must at least come celebrate an anniversary with us. Thank you again for choosing Yemaya. Stay in touch!

Yes, it takes a while to get here. But the trip makes you feel like you have earned the right to feel this relaxed!

We arrived late due to difficulties with the water taxi from Big Corn, but were greeted at the beach with cool towelletes to wipe the salt off our faces. The staff are extremely attentive and much more helpful than ANY other place we visited on three weeks in CR & Nicaragua. Our luggage didn't make it, but was safely delivered to us late on the same night (Christmas Eve, nonetheless).

Other big pros: very beautiful design and decor in the room -- incredibly comfortably sleeps a family of four, beautiful showers, great breakfasts (LOVE the coconut bread), funky menus for dinner, amazing snorkelling right at the beach, very friendly panga driver, great restaurant staff! We came for the easy snorkeling and it did not disappoint ... amazing, right off the beach. Got a lift from the panga driver close to the outer reef and it was even better!

The pictures you've seen aren't fake ... this place is even more beautiful when you see it in person. The wind, the palms, the sun, the crystal-clear waters. It's like a picture book and should not be missed. We will most definitely be back!

You are so correct that the trip makes you feel like you deserve to be this relaxed! Thank you for that-love it! Little Corn is a special place that makes you earn it (just a little). Thank you for taking the time to share you experience with the TripAdvisor community. The best compliment from you was about how helpful and attentive our staff is. They really appreciate that feedback. :) We hope you are able to see us again soon!

The setting is absolutely beautiful and peaceful with the soft sound of the ocean lapping on the beach. Little Corn Islanders say it is the best beach on the island. And the Managers, Julia and Michael, could not be more concerned about our comfort and needs. The entire staff were friendly, warm, and accommodating. All the little details were there or provided at our request. The room was attractive, clean, luxurious, large, airy, and right on the beach with a view of the ocean. All the rooms are similar, individual cabanas on the water. The ocean is calm and one can easily swim and snorkel in it. Snorkeling is right off the beach and includes an extensive reef.
And we could even see swimming fish from our table in the restaurant.
The restaurant gets much of its produce from the extensive organic garden on the hotel property. The chef and kitchen staff have been trained to provide a variety of international dishes that are freshly prepared, healthy, and flavorful. We were able to order dishes ahead of time that were in keeping with our dietary needs.
We included a few days of scuba diving on this trip and were able to have the staff take us into town to the scuba shop in the hotel launch according to our time schedule. It was very convenient. And the scuba diving off Little Corn Island is some of the best we have done in the Caribbean due to the location of the island being well away from the mainland and due to the lack of pollution in the waters there.
All in all, we loved Yemaya and all of our experiences there. We would stay there again and we have already recommended it to friends.
Good job, Julia and Michael!

Room Tip: Our cabanas were Number #1 and #2 right on the beach at the furthest distance from the restaurant...

Our Family was absolutely blown away by this beautiful hideaway. The turquoise water & secluded beaches are breathtaking. Our spacious & comfortable Cabana was perfect in keeping with the surroundings. Having coffee on our terrace ( the staff will bring it to you ) is a great way to start your day. We ate breakfast & dinner in the spacious & comfortable dinning room. The food is delicious!!! The staff is wonderful & very accommodating. We spent our evenings playing cards & getting to know the staff.
We feel very blessed & revitalized. So looking forward to going back next year.
Thank you Julia & Michael. Wishing you a very blessed New Year.
