Casa Iguana
Reviewed 29 December 2013

First, the staff at Casa were very helpful, friendly and courteous.
However, the accommodations are in need of repair and updating. The casitas need painting, the windows are dirty, some floor boards seemed a little weak.

The concept of eco-lodge is great, however air temperature showers are a little much.

We stayed for 6 days in Casa Iguana in one of their cabanas. We thought it was going to be $35 but in fact due to high season it went up to $45 for a small room with a wooden bed and 2 small tables. We had to use the communal shower and toilets. Both were not appealing but for the price we could put up with the inconvenience until we found out that there were some similar accommodation for half of the price in many other places. We also discovered that their breakfast for $6 was offered to Rosa's for $3 and it was much better. However, the staff was pleasant and the grounds were immaculate, very well kept. Overall, the place needs to being improved as the buildings are starting to fall apart. Once we discovered that the American owner is not interested to invest in maintaining the place and not paying her workers on time, often going for several weeks without being paid, we did not want to support this deal. On top of that what was mentioned on their website did not match the reality. The solar and wind energy are not used instead it is huge generators which make a lot of noise and pollute the island. The Cabanas just by the beach were in fact slightly away from the beach and could not be accessible since a big wired fence prevented us to go directly on the beach, having to take the patch to the beach which was quite away from our cabanas. The Michelin chef was no other than a local cook. Their organic food came in fact from the mainland. Not once they bought food to the only organic farm on the island!!
We will return to Little Corn as it is an enchanting place with beautiful beaches and landscape but for sure we will rather stay at the Cool Spots which has cabanas for half of the price and directly onto the beach.

I spent five nights here and loved it. Abner and the crew were amazing. The view is to die for. Its a beautiful, tranquil, Caribbean hideaway. Everyone here made me feel like family. I look forward to coming back again.

We checked in to an economy cabana and were appalled at the conditions and the size of the room. As we walked by the community toilets and showers the employee pointed out that was where our banos were located, quite a long walk in a towel from our cabana. I immediately went back and requested to be moved to a casita. They reluctantly obliged and charged the difference to my card (which was totally worth it) but they were not particulary nice or accomodating. The kitchen/bar staff was borderline rude except for Abner who was very nice and helpful. The $15 family style dinner was so not worth it, go to the Turned Turtle if you want a GOOD multicourse meal. The WiFi was offline and we had to walk to the other side of the island to connect with our family back home. For the island Casa Iguana looked like one of the better hotels, but the casita is the only way to go that doesnt make you feel like you are at summer-camp-from-hell. Beautiful views and great breeze, but when its raining the wind is so strong you have to close all the doors and windows or you and your bed will get soaked.

Room Tip: Casitas are the only option really, do not book the economy cabana!

Value was a 3. We paid $25 a night and got what we paid for in my opinion. My husband and I weren't looking for anything fancy just a roof over or heads. But, stained linens and dirt everywhere plus a bug net with holes in it....! Also the community shower that you use if staying in a casita was absolutely disgusting! Mold everywhere, tons of sand and dirt on the floor. One tiny shelf to set you shower supplies that was perhaps dirtier than the floor. Value as far as food and drinks, stay away! We figured this out right away and spent our money elsewhere, getting better food and service for 1/2 as much.
The way they keep track of people's food and drinks to charge them to their rooms is sketchy and archaic. When we checked out my husband demanded a breakdown of costs and the food/drink bill (we did eat/drink a few things) was totally random. The staff is cold/distant but this seemed like a frequently encountered personality among the "locals". The location is nice and they keep the grounds very clean. Wouldn't stay there again unless new owners stepped in, fixed the place up even just a little and provided some management!

I usually don't write reviews, but hope the owners see this and pull their staffs act together.
My family stayed at casa iguanas for 1 night out of 3 we had planned to stay last week.
We were greeted with a friendly smile to help us off the boat and with our stuff to the 10 minute walk through the jungle.
After that we were thoroughly disappointed. We checked into our shack on the beach for $75 a night and were blown away by the beautiful view and the uncleanliness of our sheets and cabin. Dust everywhere and our sheets had stains on every one.

We were also informed that the Internet is broken and getting fixed in Managua?

Anyway okay so the cabin was dirty but we are travelers so we got over it but the reason I am writing this review is about the service!

We pre booked out $15 a person dinner and was told to be there at 7pm. We showed up hungry and ready to eat. We sat at a table in the restaurant and the woman who was behind the bar didn't even acknowledge we were there and the "manager" was laying on the couch listening to music and ignoring is as well.
We finally asked the woman if we could kindly have a drink after 15 minutes of being ignored.
Another 1/2 went by and nothing was happening. Another family walked in, sat at the bar with the staff and when I went and asked when dinner was going to be served I got a huge dose of attitude and the waitress finally went back to get us a salad.
The manager sat down with the other family and we then after waiting for them all to finish (8pm now) we got our main dish.
I ordered the vegetarian option that came out with 3 patties of dough burnt to a crisp with 3 pieces of cauliflower and mashed potatoes! $15??? for a hour wait, burnt dinner and a server who sighed every time we asked for anything.

Needless to say there was no one to talk to about it and we were starving so we ate what we could.

Checked out the next day and moved down the beach for less money and better service!

we live in Nicaragua and will not be recommending this place to anyone we know. Hope the owners make the improvements needed.

We stayed in a 'deluxe' casita. There was nothing deluxe about it. The casitas are at best tired shacks (although that seems to be the case for most of the accommodation on the island). The bed was uncomfortable, one was full of bugs when we arrived, the sheets and towels were stained, the mosquito nets were ripped and hanging off. I have stayed in plenty of basic accommodation and it's not that I object to it being basic, but these complaints are things that, for $65 a night, I wouldn't expect and could be easily remedied if anyone was actually bothered.
It's quite a way from the main strip (which is part of the advantage of staying there) but it does mean walking through a small wood to get back. If you are females alone, which we were, it is an intimidating walk and meant we had to leave the bars/restaurants at night at the same time etc so we didn't walk it alone. Be sure to bring a torch if you stay here!
On the plus side, the views are beautiful. Sitting on a hammock with a view of the sea was lovely. I liked the outdoor showers.
We only had breakfast which was ok, there is a place (I can't remember the name) halfway between Casa Iguana and the town which is half the price and much better for breakie.
Overall, it was ok. Overpriced and neglected.
