Was curious to check reviews, after our stay, and was not too surprised to find them diametrically opposite.
The place itself is in paradise. Secluded, wonderful beach, very beautiful wooden huts etc. We stayed for 1 day (which is all they had available) and loved the experience.
But you do have to realise
- it is a 30 min walk to the main village on an unpaved trail. there is nothing to do at Dereks after dinner (fire/relax), so it can go a bit boring after a few days, and walking over, while entirely fine with a flashlight, is not something everyone would like doing
- meals (and drinks) are a bit on the expensive side (for the region), and you cant get anything in between meals: we spent as much on food/drink as on stay during the day
- Anna can be both super-pleasant, and temperamental..
- You are in the jungle. Mosquitos, bugs etc are normal.
It is a perfect get-away, but for most i'd advise to limit their stay for a few days and mix it with a more central locationMore
