“Lovely and tranquil”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

This is a gem of a hotel. Lovely and tranquil set in beautiful grounds a short distance from the town by car. The staff are friendly and helpful and anxious to please. Our room was in a bungalow with a large rain shower. There is a lovely pool and small spa in which to relax, The restaurant is another bonus. Our family and I enjoyed three meals, breakfasts, lunch and dinner. All were superb!

This hotel was superb: stone-built, beautiful gardens, lovely pool and very helpful staff. When you ask about a specific restaurants, they give it a thumbs up (or down) and give other recommendations.
In addition, the food in the hotel restaurant is superb. I only ate once here. Started with a perfectly seared foie gras, followed by a modern interpretation of grilled fish with piperade and ended with a COrsican cheese plate. They recommended a nice Patrimonio red to go with. This and La Caravelle where my two favorite places, La Caravelle being twice as expensive.
My room was called cozy (French tongue in cheek for the cheapest available) and although it was not cheap, I could not think anything else I would have wanted. A nice little terrace to drink wine after a day at the beach, well appointed bathroom with L'Occitane products and a comfortable bed. Would have been nicer if the bed was a queen one not two twins, but oh well.

The A Cheda is a lovely hotel set in lush gardens a few miles from the hustle and bustle of Bonifaccio. The room that we had was a lovely bungalow (a little hobbit esq) with lots of character and well equipped. The space out side the room, in the garden and around the pool are tranquil and relaxing. I was reading the previous reviews and trying to reconcile them with our experience.
The vibe of acheda is very Mediterranean relaxed with friendly helpful staff, but missing a sense of urgency. The rooms are lovely, and different, but if you want a square box, go to a Hilton or other big chain hotel. This is exactly what we look for on holiday, but may not be everyone's cup of tea.
The food is excellent, but I have to admit a little overpriced vs what you can get at other establishments nearby. Would I return, yes, but I'd look to eat out in town!

Hotel is nicer than it appears on the hotel's website. Set in beautiful grounds. The restaurant is very good though not cheap. Suites are spacious set over two floors. The hotel is a way out of the town and a car is really needed.

This hotel was our only negative on an otherwise wonderful visit to Corsica this September. We don't mind spending a lot of money for a really nice hotel but A Cheda just didn't merit the cost. On the positive side, it was close to Bonifacio an easy five minute car ride. Bonifacio had ample parking, at least in September. We checked in and were given the key to our room. The rooms were a bit strange as others have mentioned. There was a swinging door to the bathroom. It seemed a bit like a house for hobbits. One nice feature was the outside terrace with a quiet garden.
We tried several times to get help at the front desk but there was no one available. We wanted to use the pool and searched for pool towels. Again, no one was available. This hotel was really expensive and the service frankly did not measure up.

This hotel was very disappointing and I almost gave it a two star rating given it was well below many I would give four.
Firstly I can say we are not fans of the upstairs downstairs setup. Bedroom up shower and toilet down all the issues with getting luggage up and down and for those who are a little older the night time requirements to navigate the stairs.
Things like getting tags to collect pool towels and mosquito zappers (yes they get Mosquitos ) and being charged upfront Euro 130/140 for deposits for these items is extremely unusual for a hotel of supposedly this standard. The pool is tucked away in a pretty unattractive location and not inviting.
One of the rooms the ceiling was very low in the upstairs bedroom so "watch your head".
The senior staff(owners?) were very pleasant and helpful while the more junior staff were pleasant but seemed not to have been with the hotel for very long.
The food and service in the restaurant was very good but again highly dependent on the Maitre De.
Unfortunately for us the least enjoyable stay in our three weeks now in Italy and France.

A Cheda is an unusual place. Clearly inspired by Thailand, it combines an upscale boutique hotel with the greenery and design of Southeast Asia. I loved it, although I recognize this is not for everyone. The rooms are unusually designed. Ours at least was rather low-lying and not super-spacious. But very cool and hip. What you have to realize is that this place is not about hanging out in your room. The grounds are amazing. There's a garden where they grow all their produce through which you can waner with a glass of wine. A lovely pool. Fountains with little chairs. Wonderfully landscaped. If you stay here, make sure you schedule time to just hang out at the hotel. The restaurant is also superb and serves excellent Corsican fare that relies primarily on the quality of the ingredients. I found the staff to be rextremely helpful. One night, my friends and I wanted to go to Porto Vecchio and not worry about drinking and driving. The hotel found a taxi to tkae us there, but not one to bring us back. The young woman at the front desk (not the owner) offered to come pick us up - yes, for a price, but not an unreasonable one. More importantly, it would have been way after when the front desk closed. And she said she was happy to do it like she meant it. That kind of personal service is rare. We didnt' want to ruin her Sat night, so we ended up driving, but the point is that she went way out of her way to be helpful.

So what can I say? This hotel is not super-sleek chic. That's not its vibe. It is cool and funky and completely different from anywhere else I have stayed in France or Corsica. I thought the service was very good. If you love greenery and gardens, you will love it. If you want to stay somewhere very modern and sleek, this is not your place. There you have it.
