“A fourth fabulous visit...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2013

We have visited Les Granges Hautes over the years and this was our fourth visit. We always stay here when we are in the area...you couldn't find a nicer place to stay. The house is divine, Bea and Jean Yves are wonderful, helpful and cheerful hosts and the gardens are absolutely beautiful.

This time, with two friends, we stayed in the recently completed barns which are self contained and equipped and furnished to a very high standard.

Les Granges Hautes is one of our very favourite places to stay when in France and we can HIGHLY recommend it.

Room Tip: All the rooms are delightfully furnished, each one is quite different and we would be happy to stay...

We spent four wonderful nights at La Grange Hautes from 13-17 June. The property was magnificent, beautiful gardens and a lovely refreshing pool. The rooms were quite large with a nice ensuite, beds very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice and plentiful and we had breakfast in the garden each morning. The host Beatrice was extremely helpful, pleasant and professional. I really enjoyed this wonderful bed and breakfast and would recommend this property to anyone wishing to spend a few days in the Dordogne. well done Beatrice .

Lovely B&B on lovely grounds. The suite was good-sized and (in addition to the queen bed) had 2 single beds for the kids as opposed to a couch, which is always nice to find. The pool was a highlight! The grounds and rooms are very well-kept and clean. Little odd that there was no soap provided for shower. The hosts were very kind and welcoming. Breakfast was good and worth the extra charge. We did their dinner one night and that was all right although could have done without the gizzards. This is a beautiful part of France and the B&B is well located to allow for really nice sight-seeing through the Dordogne valley. Overall, a nice stay!

This is the quintessential French Country Inn, beautiful old buildings set on magnificent grounds, with lawns, gardens, and orchards. We stayed in Virginie, in the main house. The room is large, with a king size bed, a large dresser, wardrobe, writing desk, and reading chair. The bathroom is also large, with tub and shower. It is on the ground floor, so no stairs to climb. Breakfast is typical of this region, but the strawberries were fresh from the garden, and all the pastry was freshly baked. Breakfast (and dinner, if you request) are served in the quaint dining room with massive fireplace; fresh flowers and soft music complete the scene. Our room was cleaned daily, and everything was kept in first class order. It was unusually cold while we were there, so we were given a little space heater to help with the chill, but by the end of the week the weather turned warm and we were able to enjoy the beautiful pool. We were in the region specifically to see the cave art, and this B & B was perfectly located for that purpose. We loved coming back in the evenings to a quiet village - we slept amazingly well during our stay here. The bed and pillows are super-comfortable. There are so many wonderful restaurants in the area, here are a few to try: La Chateau in St. Genies, La Gabarre in St. Julian, and Au Puits Gourmond in Proissons. If you can make it to Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, have lunch in the tea room. Also try to make it to St. Leon sur Vezere for lunch at Dejeuner sur l'Herbe. Get a sandwich and sit on the lawn, right at the edge of the beautiful river. If you are interested in cave art, you might consider contacting Christine Desdemaines-Hugon for a private tour. She is the author of Stepping Stones, and is one of the top experts in the field (christine.desdemaines@gmail.com).

Dear everybody looking for a nice place to spend a good time,

I am a 22 year old student from Belgium, and i went to "Les granges Hautes " last June with my older brother and my 2 parents. I am willing to let you know how wonderful our trip was.
First, the host people : a very sweet couple talking French and English fluently. So you will not have any problem having a conversation with them. Always smiling, always there to help you out, to give you the best pieces of advice, and willing to make your trip as good as it could possibly be. They have 3 wonderful kids you might bumb into from time to time, since they share a part of their house. Thus it is a very friendly atmosphere. For instance, we were heading back from a nice little restaurant one night, and they were having a little drink on their private dinning table, outsides. They asked us how the food was, then told us (and they insisted) to go join them. So did we. And what a great time ! The husband went to get a bottle of home made french alcohol, and we talked, us 4 and them, for about 2 or 3 hours ! 2 other guests joined too. We got to have a very interesting conversation, very open, and learn more about the region and the people.

Then, the place : when we first got there, we were speechless! Oh my god ! That was like looking at a postcard. Unbelievable ! A very very wonderful place, seriously! And very typical from the region. Very Frenchy ! We all loved it. They have a HUGE yard, with all kind of flowers, trees and vegetables. The rooms are comfortable, quiet, and well decorated. and last but not least...the swimming pool :D !!! Very beautiful! Big, warm, clean,...just what you need on your vaccation!

As a conclusion, and honeslty, this is a place i highly recommand. Living in Belgium, i have been many times in France, and have spent vaccations in many different places of France. But that one was absolutely perfect. Weather, people, rooms, food,... Im about to download a picture to give you an idea :)

ps : if you want to go there...give them a call soon enough :p

Jean-Sébastien Walhin.

When we walked through the entrance of Les Grange Hautes in the Dordogne region of France I had the feeling of entering Shangri La. Granted, that whole area is stunning, but this b&b blended perfectly with its setting. The grounds are made up of an immaculate lawn, beautiful gardens, with plenty of seating, and a surprisingly big and tranquil pool. The rooms are part of the old, rustic stone house, yet like little cottages that are wonderfully restored and decorated- each with a unique style and theme. If there weren't so much good exploring to do throughout the region, we would have been just as content to make a vacation out of soaking in the environment of this lovely B&B. The owners, Beatrice and Jean-Yves couldn't be nicer, genuinely happy to welcome and provide for guests and answer questions.

Also, if you stay here, we highly recommend you take Beatrice's advice and eat at Cafe de la Place, in the village just a few minutes away- amazing menu, chef (Stephanie) and co-owner and host (Theirry).

Our stay at this wonderful bed and breakfast fulfilled all of our dreams of staying in an historic building in the french countryside.
Our hosts Jean-Yves and Beatrice Fauste were faultless in their
care of us (from New Zealand), even though we were three hours late in arriving, dinner was set and served under the trees in a beautiful setting. We were lucky to have the "Tuscany" room and en suite. Our walks across the countryside, visits to the market town of Sarlat for picnic ingredients to enjoy in the grounds of Les Granges Hautes. We feel privileged to have met and had our needs cared for by this lovely family. We would repeat this experience tomorrow if we could!!
