“Great wedding venue”
Reviewed 23 April 2014

We spent the weekend at Eshott Hall for a wedding and it was lovely. The staff were very helpful, especially Helen, who looked after us fantastically. We stayed in The Grange, which had fantastic rooms. The grounds are amazing and I would recommend it as somewhere to go for a special occasion.

Room Tip: All the rooms in the Grange were lovely, but the one one the first floor at the back of the house is...

Went to Eshott Hall as part of my 60th birthday treat!

Honestly, the experience couldn't have been better. Our room 'The Italian' was large, very comfortable and had the most lovely roll-top bath in the bedroom.

The food in the restaurant was great with good choice and excellent service. Maybe if we had been staying longer a daily "special" might have been a good idea but for a couple of nights no problem.

The best thing about Eshott was the small, intimate feel of the country house and it's lack of pretention.

Will certainly return soon if possible.

Stayed for one night in the cottage next to the hotel. There is a 2minute walk to the main hotel itself. The room was lovely with lush deep pile carpets that felt like walking on air. Bed was lovely and comfortable. Although it bit apprehensive about sharing a cottage with 4 other couples, we had no reason to worry. We never heard a single noise from any of the other guests who stayed there.
The main hotel is like it should be. Very old fashioned but lovely and cosy with it. On arrival we where a bit early so went to the Railway Inn 3mile away for a drink as there was afternoon teas going on at the hotel, so no-where to sit. So dont arrive early and expect to get your room key.
We had a 3-course evening meal which cost £35 each and I have to say it was fantastic!!! Every course was a delight and very good value for money. Breakfast too was lovely but we did have to wait a while for our order to be taken (15mins..).
Overall an excellent stay and cant wait to come back

Let's get the good stuff out of the way first: the bed was comfortable and I slept well, although my wife woke with a stiff neck. That's it for the positives, although the dining was excellent, but I'll review that separately.
We have stayed here before (June 2013) and were in one of the rooms in the main hall, which was excellent. This time we were in a room in Eshott Grange, a newly refurbished cottage 250 yards away from the hall. Luckily it was not too cold or wet, but we did need to wear coats for the walk to the hall for meals. Coming home after dinner was a challenge as the path is only lit half way, so we needed to use the torch on a phone to see our way.
On arrival the room was not warm despite 2 radiators being turned up full. There was heating in the small bathroom, consisting of an electric heated towel rail and possible underfloor heating, so we turned these on and kept the bathroom door open.
There was no information in the room about the hotel (eg times of meals, facilities available etc), about local tourist info, and no notice about what to do in case of fire. There was also no telephone, so no way of reporting an emergency or calling for help in case of sudden illness etc.
There were two chairs in the room, but the seat on one had lost its support and was lumpy and uncomfortable to sit on. The wardrobe was too narrow for clothes to hang on the rail, and so with clothes in, the door wouldn't shut.
In the bathroom one of the three ceiling lights was out. There was no shower gel provided, although there were two different types of shampoo. There was no shelf in the shower to put anything, and no hooks for towels or bath robes (supplied, small size only).
It was a ground floor room, with heavy curtains at the windows, but no net curtain or blinds, so to maintain privacy we had to keep the curtains closed most of the time.
Finally, the decor. In the main house the rooms were decorated in different styles - see the website for lovely pictures - but in this more modern cottage, it appeared that the furniture was cast-offs from the main house: a four poster bed, a chandelier which came down to 5 feet from the floor, and rickety wardrobe and furniture. And the uncomfortable chair mentioned earlier.
So would I stay here again? Only if I was sure I was getting a room in the main house!

Room Tip: Ask for a room in the main hall.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent two night stay. Guests are really made welcome and all the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Our room was magnificent with large windows from which we had a good view of the gardens and spent time watching the birds and red squirrels - a real bonus. The room had matching antique Italian furniture and a free standing bath while the bathroom was modern with a walk-in shower. The bed was very comfortable.
The food at dinner was excellent, beautifully presented and very tasty. Service was good but the meals were not hurried. Breakfasts were equally good but can take a little time

The food was good though too fussily presented and the service was slow. It was unfortunate that there was no self-service at breakfast. The room was good, though it was difficult tyo run a hot bath. A good feature was the availability of a computer.
