We stayed here in July for a wedding. Having been to many "castles" in Ireland for weddings I knew that Durrow was an estate house rather than a Castle.
The staff were friendly and the food was good but standard of accommodation was poor. We stayed in a room by the gardens which by the prices we assumed would be a decent room. We were very disappointed by the darkness and dampness of the room. There was a "smell" of dampness in the room.
Whilst I appreciate it is an old building - this room was beyond basic and yet we were being charged €190 a night and this was the reduced rate for the wedding !.
The bathroom whilst equipped with Molton Brown bottles was very basic. There was mould on the tiles and the shower head was broken.
There was nothing impressive about the room or the venue to warrant a recommendation to anyone.
We did mention the poor quality of the room on our departure and recieved no response.
If you are choosing to have a wedding or stay in this hotel - be sure to avoid the last room on the right hand side before you go out to the gardens.
Cannot possibly survive a recession at the prices they are charging for the rooms they are supplyingMore
