We decided to have a meal here on a Friday night as in the past, even though the menu isn't extensive, which I prefer; the food has been excellent and very large portions. Unfortunately it wasn't the case this time. A smattering of oven chips, frozen peas and a greasy, battered fish with a side order of salad consisting of slightly brown tinned sweetcorn, lettuce and a spoonful of coleslaw. A real shame as we've always been impressed by the food and service but we won't be returning. I hate giving negative reviews but I also hate paying for sub standard food!

Great Hotel, Although the original building dates back to 16th century the en-suite rooms are modern, spacious and well equipped with Wi-Fi, TV, Hairdryer, kettle, complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits. Most of the rooms are on ground level with good access for those with mobility problems, and for the less able room 21 has a well specified wet room (although there are two small steps to get into the breakfast dining room). Rooms are very clean, comfortable and have views onto the hotel gardens. As previous guests have pointed out the hotel is close to a dual carriageway, however this is well shielded by large conifers and a pleasant garden gives you some distance from the road, I wasn't disturbed by traffic noise during my two night stay. Room 19 has patio doors allowing you to sit outside if you wish on one of the many benches in the garden area. The proximity to the A14 (2 minutes by car) is a bonus as it makes this an ideal base for visiting the surrounding area.
Breakfast is buffet style drinks and continental items, but pots of tea and coffee are served at the table if you prefer. A full English breakfast is cooked to order and delivered piping hot to your table. (highly recommended)
The Cedars has function room/ conference facilities and has ample parking very close to the entrance. The bar is well stocked, reasonably priced and like the rest of the hotel, operated by friendly helpful staff. Overall a very pleasant two night stay.

Room Tip: Discuss your requirements with staff when booking, they are very helpful.

A bit dated in places perhaps, but clean, good bar and restaurant. The staff were helpful and provided a friendly service. Room was fine, having everything I needed with an excellent stand alone shower

I had my wedding reception here in mid June 2014. From the day we booked, the staff were really helpful, and very flexible with times, food options and rooms. On the day, they were very patient with us interrupting them setting the room up so we could decorate the tables! On arrival, they had everything sorted - the room looked great, and drinks were waiting for our guests. The food came out at exactly the time I had requested and was really tasty with lots of options. The staff were very friendly and professional throughout the evening.

We booked a few rooms for our guests and they were all happy - I am a bit baffled about the comments about damp as I didn't detect anything, and neither did anyone else. The bathrooms were modern, the bed very comfy, and the rooms were fairly cool, considering the sun was beating down outside.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this as a wedding venue.

A nice friendy hotel with character. I found it very comfortable - bedding was definitely cream not yellowing! Helpful staff, extensive unpretentious menu, lovely bar. All in all, excellent value for money.

Very old fashioned hotel, decor needs TLC and fast! Smelt like damp everywhere. Large rooms, comfy bed, clean. Shame about the decor. Helpful & polite staff. Very good prices in the bar (1 round of 14 drinks came to only £28!). Thought £76 was steep for this hotel!
