“Definetley returning!”
Reviewed 30 March 2014

My Husband and I have just spent the weekend at Bays Farm staying in the Hayloft. Cannot fault the friendliness and warmth extended to us by Stephanie and Richard. The house is amazing with beautiful drawing room where you can enjoy a drink or coffee in perfect surroundings and comfort. The HAYLOFT is stunning with a drench shower and gorgeous bath, it was so warm and comfortable , the bed was the best hotel bed and pillows I have ever slept in. There is a supper menu which we tried on the Friday evening lovely home cooked food, nothing was too much trouble and the breakfast amazing. Overall a top weekend which we cant recommend highly enough, thankyou for a wonderful stay we will be back this year.

Room Tip: Choose the Hayloft if you want somewhere self contained its a short walk to the main house for meals...

Thank you for your review and really glad you enjoyed the Hayloft. The fine weather this week is now giving our guests an opportunity to not only use our drawing room for refreshments but also to take advantage of the gardens to sit in. We are happy you enjoyed our farmhouse supper and look forward to seeing you in the future.

We had a 2 Night stay in Feb 2014, as we entered the driveway we knew it would be something special.

We were welcomed at the vehicle and offered he'll with luggage. We stayed in the Cream Room during our stay, the attention to detail in the room and throughout the building was outstanding.

The room was exceptionally clean and comfortable as was the rest of the house. Breakfast had plenty of options that catered for every diet, the Full English is prepared using local produce.

Overall Bays Farm is an outstanding Guest House with lovely hosts and very comfortable rooms. We will defiantly return.

We spent the night here as we had an evening meal booked at the excellent Shepherd and Dog, which is a pleasant 20 minute walk away,.
We slept in the Hay Loft which was cosy and comfortable, the bathroom ,bed in fact all the facilities were faultless. The following morning, amazingly, we managed to demolish a delicious cooked breakfast. The Bacon and sausage were very good quality and there was a generous selection of fruit on the buffet, coffee and toast were plentiful, good granary bread .They ticked all the right boxes with breakfast as sometimes it can be let down by sad sausages and sliced bread. Stephanie and Richard were excellent hosts and we thought Bays Farm was very good value and the area is quiet and peaceful.

Thank you for your kind words. We are particularly pleased you enjoyed your meal at the Shepherd & Dog as the young couple have recently taken it over and it seems to be going from strength to strength. Also glad you enjoyed your stay with us so much - we source our meat locally and always provide a good selection of fruit - as much from the garden as possible when we can.

So let me start from the outside and work in. The area surrounding Bays Farm is beautiful and quiet, the tranquility of the area brings immediate relaxation. This is quickly built upon by the hosts Richard and Stephanie who are keen to put you at ease and ensure that you have everything you desire or need. If you read a number of my reviews you will see that I have no fear of being very negative when a location deserves it. I seldom have the opportunity to write such a positive review. There was absolutely nothing I can comment on negatively. This is a superb place to stay. It i designated as a B&B however I need to raise the age old question of 'what is a B&B'. If I say this place is good as a 5* hotel thenI do it a disservice. A 5* hotel may be very good but can it bring the personal touch of a couple who have opened their home and meet your every need personally? The interior is of genuine antiquity, none of those false beams and pine doors. Here you can see exposed beams of the c17th and traditional construction of the era. The decor is perfectly suited to the building and the combined whole is attractive and tranquil. If you are a garden lover then this is also for you, a new orchard, herb garden, cut flower beds, fruit cages, a vegetable garden which from no doubt some of your meal will come from if you eat at home in the evening. That reminds me, this B&B has what they call a 'supper menu' that would put many pubs to shame.. creamy fish pie... Lasagna... cheese platter... puddings and plenty of other options. To top all that they have wines by the glass, carafe or bottle. Cheap prices but not cheap wines. I get the impression that Richard knows his wines so you'll not find poor wines at high prices.

On to the bedroom. I had the Cream Room which I think is the cheapest room. This is spacious and has an en-suite shower room. The bathroom and bedroom are absolutely spotlessly clean with white John Lewis high quality linen. The bed, an important factor in my travels, is comfortable with real feather pillows (hurrah)... I'm sure they also do hypoallergenic rubber boards for those who want/need them! I think the shower was pumped as the pressure was fantastic and consistent. The soap is something locally made. Although I like the ubiquitous Mouton Brown, one better is locally made bathroom items. The room had nice opening windows if you like lots of fresh air and the central heating in the room is vey controllable.
The breakfast had to be the 'full English' although other options are available. Good quality 'dry cure' bacon, none of the watery supermarket cheap stuff, beans, mushrooms in butter... oh the pleasure of it all. Good quality juice, home made conserves... home made bread for toast.... all served in the beautiful period dinning room.

So as you can see, I loved it. I could go on and even though this is a long review I hardly think I've done Bays Farm justice. You just have to go and try it for yourself.

Room Tip: I chose the cream room as it was the cheapest. The Hayloft is a complete suite external to the main...

Thank you for your review, we appreciate your comments very much. Our supper menu was introduced last year and we continually 'tweak' it to accommodate guest requirements. Yes, Richard spends time researching the wines so we can offer something a little different but at a good price. Regarding the garden we suffered some severe damage from the winds we all experienced over the winter period but this has given us an excellent opportunity to re-landscape and new flower beds are being laid out and planted all ready for our summer visitors!

This was a wonderful treat after Christmas. We loved everything about this place; the tasteful décor which enhanced the beautiful old building, the lovely hosts, the delicious breakfast and the super comfortable bedroom.

We are planning to go back this Summer, to see the garden at its best.

Room Tip: We slept in the Pink room but we think the others will be as good.

I stayed here recently on business with colleagues. Beautiful place, every room is immaculate and the hosts made us very welcome.
Complimentary wifi meant we were able to share a very nice bottle of red in front of an open fire as we worked in the evening.

Highly recommended, I know where to stay on my next trip.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Lavish restoration has turned this charming 17th-century farmhouse into a quality destination. The most recent changes have seen the addition of a separate shower in the Blue Room and an upgrade to a King Size bed in the Cream Room. A moat and 4 acres of recently re-designed gardens which open under the National Garden Scheme surround the property. The interior has a wealth of oak beams and the individually designed bedrooms are luxuriously furnished and each have en-suite facilities. The Hayloft is beautifully appointed and offers a comfortable lounge area along with its own balcony looking over the orchard. Possibly the most luxurious Shepherd Hut in the country is located in the wild flower garden and overlooks the newly landscaped moat. Why not sample the luxury of Bays Farm but with the individuality of a special shepherd hut experience. Bays Farms is very pleased to have been reviewed by our guests as the #1 5* B&B in East Anglia for the last four years (Trip Advisor 2013 - 2017). Why not come and experience a stay at Bays Farm? Please note we no longer serve supper on Saturday evenings as all local eateries are open for business. Very occasionally we have to close the kitchen on other evenings. ... more   less
