A perfect place for young families. My 4-year-old got to wave the flag, see inside the cab and dress up as a guard. I was jealous. The genuine friendliness and enthusiasm of the staff really make it worth a visit. They were eager to help and answer all questions, from young and old alike.
Check their website to see which days have live steam and special events. We were fortunate to visit during a small model railways exhibition, which added fun for all.
Prices are very reasonable, £6 adult, £4.50 OAP, £3 child, under 5s free! Plus you can return for no further charge within 12months! - which we certainly will.
On steam days, a tank engine takes you up and down the short line as many times as you like(half-hourly, or every 15mins). It is a very short line - about 600 yards. The loco and coaches are excellently restored/maintained, with a free choice of riding in 1st, 3rd class or the brake van.
Refreshments are available, inlcuding high-quality cakes at fair/low prices.
The museum and workshop are well presented.
A real treat!
