Found a fantastic deal on this hotel on Expedia and best of all it was availalble on several different weeks . I did my research on Trip Advisor as usual before booking and found some great tips. Here is mine revised-yes become a member of the Hiltons reward program as suggested takes a second and sure enough we were upgraded to a lnewly renovated ,lovely ocean view ,great balcony and a bathroom I could move into. The sprawling swimming pools are amazing and everytime is breathtaking as you look at the views of the ocean over the cliff. The catamaran ride to thier private island is spectacular as is the island itself !Lots of chairs ,quiet spots to be away from other guests and take the hike up the hill to the other beaches(clothing optional ,but we werent interested in that ) -no one was there ! Some snorkeling but dont get too excited. Bring some watersocks or Tevas to go into water as yes there are some rocks but not in all spots , in late October the water was incredably warm !The restaurants are each unique in decor and are style of food and well worth the price -not over the top price so dont be frightened by what you read. One word of caution is we went during the week Tue-Sat and it was perfectly quiet and yet had enough people to make it comfortable but Friday evening is when the masses bring their entire families ,rambunkish children and all. So if you want to escape from children go during the week. The Golden Door spa was very nice and they have several relaxation rooms and steam, cool, hot tub.Went into the little town area just outside the gates of the marina below and the locals were very friendly and welcoming as we walked to otherside of bay area and had a beer in village close to gates. This is a luxury vacation open for those on a budget who can catch the deal when it comes up !We opted for the ride from the resort and it was sooooo worth it as both ways we had the little limo bus to ourselves and they serve you rum and mix on the trip (takes an hour)!

Room Tip: Follow the advice as the other writers we asked for the area close to the tram , newly renovated roo...

The tram to get down to the marina is broken. If you want to get to any sort of beach time, you must wake up at 8 so you make the first trip down to the marina at 9. The boat to and from the island takes forever My family and I waited for 1 hr each way. AND to make things more inefficient, there is no other way to get up or down from the marina other than this tram that takes forever. Also when I was visiting, the hotel was hosting a convention of 800 of the worst/most disgusting people I have ever seen. I cannot believe the hotel would agree to depreciate it's value ad reputation with this type of crowd. I would only recommend this hotel after they fix their beach transportation problem and if you are traveling at a time when there is no huge convention going on. Overall this is the most inefficient place ever

I really enjoyed the service, food, views (the hotel is nested on a cliff overlooking the ocean), pools and Palomino Island.

Room Tip: For true romance, ask for a room in front of the Marina.

My husband and I visited El conquistador last yr. and this yr. Last yr. we stayed in the marina partial ocean views. The room was beautiful, we enjoyed our stay very much until one night, a promotion going on at the resort and noisy, disruptive and annoying neighbors. The resort took care of us, which speaks well of this resort and ofcourse another reason why we return this yr! This yr. we stayed in "Las Brisas Wing", which has spectacular views of the ocean and the resort. The room has a balcony which allows you an amazing view of the mountains, islands, Palomino island (the resorts private beach) marina, pools truly amazing. So amazing we didn't want to leave the room! The entire staff was welcoming and helpful. The resort has everything you need for your stay, restaurants, shops, bars, quite places, spectacular views, casino, a club for dancing etc. and much more. The pools are excellent, very well kept including a water park! The rooms are very big and comfortable with mini frig, coffee pot, walk-in closet, sofa, desk, chair, wonderful comphy beds and linens. The local area offers many great places to enjoy the islands many wonderful dishes and beaches as well as a nice drive to San Juan about 40 min. away. My husband and I celebrated our 38th anniversary in Puerto Rico in an amazing room and had the time of our lives, he can't stop talking about it! We are looking forward to our next trip back. Once you stay in Brisas wing, you cannot go back to any other room!! In fact before arriving El Conquistador this yr. we stayed at a nearby well known resort nearby for 4 days. It was lovely and we enjoyed our stay, but El Conquistador has the special touch, amazing views and customer service surpassed this other resort!
We'd like to say thank you to Sylvia and Jesus Gabriel at the front desk, who were so wonderful to us. Keyla Tarabochie thank you, thank you and last but not least Sharyl Toko you are special, thank you also. If you are looking at this resort and thinking about staying here, do yourself a favor, think no more this is the place to stay...book your room now!!!!

A little dated, but the grounds were immaculate. Really enjoyed our dinner and service @ The Strip Club, great value on the pre fix meals!!! Make sure to visit Palomino Island, this a private island for resort guests only. If staying anywhere else @ Puerto Rico an Island excursion will cost you plenty, what a great amenity!!

I absolutely loved this place. Nestled on a 300 foot cliff over looking the Caribbean, or if you are lucky like me and get a room near the marina, either way this place is breathe taking. There are plenty of activities to do, or if you prefer head over to the island and relax in the sun. I could see where waiting for the elevators to take you up and down the cliff could be get old in the busy season, but it comes quickly and worth the wait, after all vacation should mean taking it slow and enjoying every minute. The food is amazing and while some reviews complained about the prices, need I remind you, you are at a top quality resort, and if you want McDonalds I am sure there is a Motel 6 you could book elsewhere. The staff was great and the place was spotless.

Room Tip: Hilton Honors has its privledges.

We stayed at the "El Con" for two nights a couple weeks ago. After driving from San Juan, and through a not-that-nice strip mall covered Fajardo, driving up to the El Con through their golf course felt like we had warped into another universe. When you enter the hotel through a large outdoor area, looking out across several pools, palm trees, their harbor, to the open ocean... it's definitely something special. They are in a great spot. Very unique.

First, the bad... large swaths of the property were closed to maintenance, making the trip to/from our room a bit of an adventure since some elevators and stairwells were off limits. The funicular, which is cool and fast enough, only had one side running, and even that side broke down one day (I get the feeling this happens often) so we had to take a long bumpy van ride back and forth to the harbor one day. We ate a Blossoms on site, and maybe it's just because we were are from SoCal where there is a ton of good Asian food, but the food there was expensive and really just average (but the service was really amazing.) Also, we had some minor problems with our room (ceiling fan not working, bathroom sink caulk not dried and making a big mess. We had some creeps staying next to us the first night that kept slamming their door and yelling at each other at 1am, as well... but I was too tired to complain.

Now, the good... our room was in the v-shaped main building at the top of the cliff to the left as you enter, facing the ocean side (some rooms face the light house in Laguna Grande.) I thought the room was just great. Sparkling white, tasteful art, killer bathroom with walk-in closet, an iHome (which we used extensively), and a bed large enough to fit a little league baseball team. Our deck looked out on the harbor, and I spent a lot of time out there drinking Medalla beers. Bliss. The funicular made a bit of noise, but that tapered down at night as people stopped using it.

The pools were also very nice, featuring a swim-up bar and great views. We had some nice drinks, waded in the pool, enjoyed a hot tub at sunset... all very relaxing. Some other pluses are the on-site Starbucks, and the little sandwich shop/grocery store that has lots of reasonably (for a resort) priced snacks, drinks, and food. The sandwiches there were perfect to bring out to the island... which gets us to the BEST part of El Con, Palamino Island.

They have a catamaran that leaves every hour, free for guests, and takes you on a 10 minute ride out to their little island getaway. We were lucky enough to be "off" season and midweek, so there were only a few people on the boat, and maybe 30 people on the island. There are hundreds of beach chair, lots of palm huts and trees for shade. A restaurant, equestrian activities, mini-golf, great snorkeling (if you get outside of the tourist-battered reefs near the beach.) It was heaven, and maybe the highlight of our trip, to sit out at the end of this island, under our own palm trees, and just relax all day. We decided to extend our stay at El Con just so we could do this a second whole day, and did not regret the decision. Just awesome, even though it was a little windy. We felt like celebrities.

In conclusion, when you stay at the El Con you can tell it has gone through a lot of "lives" and is in some transition. It's not quite the Ritz Carlton, but it has these little glimmers of awesome here and there, and the island experience is a game-changer. Ask to see your room, bring some snacks with you to the island, check the recommendations here for what restaurants (there are several) and food is good, and you'll enjoy your stay. Unless you are hardcore into golfing or tennis, I don't see why you'd need to be here more than 3 or 4 nights. It's a good base to go see El Yunque, if you wanted to stay an extra day for that.

I must mention that Keyla from VIP services there was VERY nice to us, delivering chocolate covered strawberries and wine to our room, that we enjoyed on our balcony ti celebrate our honeymoon. THANK YOU! I would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: There are many room types. The ones with the best views tend to be quite far from the center of the...
