“Average service, great experience”
Reviewed 22 August 2014

This place had breath taking views, infinity pool in Las Casitas Village, and island for beach goers. We had a great waiter at the restaurant on Palomino Island(you have to take the ferry to the beach), Alvin, he was great. The ferry timing was off as they did not give us a schedule of the times. You have to stay at Las Casitas Village to enhance your experience! All in all a great stay!

Room Tip: Go to Las Casitas

Just returned from 7 wonderful days at the El Conquistador. Ocean view room was spectacular and the food was great. The water park was a pleasant surprise and my adult children had a blast while my husband and I enjoyed drinks under an umbrella with a beautiful view of the ocean. Palomino Island was the highlight, just a short boat ride away to paradise. Great place for couples and families. Would definitely return here again.

We stayed in the El Conquistador for two nights. We had heard rumors that the resort was one of the best on the island and, as a HHonors Diamond family, we were curious to see if the resort lived up to its reputation. First off, the drive up to the resort was absolutely stunning! The sloping greens of the golf course added to the serene beautiful of it all. We had originally booked a garden view room but were upgraded to an ocean view room in arguably the best section of the hotel near the funicular (thanks to the supervisor at the front desk -- a very professional young woman) overlooking the resort marina, downtown Fajardo, and Palomino Island. The only complaint I have was that we were initially taken back by the resort only offering two complimentary HHonors breakfast vouchers (there are three in our family) when the Hilton Ponce we had stayed at the previous nights gave us three breakfast vouchers with no problems during our entire stay there. The front desk staff eventually did give us a third breakfast voucher, but only for one morning of our stay. I know that each Hilton property and name brand have a different set of rules (the Waldorf Astoria Naples, FL doesn't even give breakfast vouchers to HHonors guests anymore and instead tries to make up for it in other ways) but I feel that exceptions should be made to Hilton's most loyal guests. Anyway, I digress. The boat ride to Palomino Island (on a catamaran) is a great touch to the resort experience! On the island, wild iguanas roam around (not to worry, they're quite accustomed to people) while you sunbathe or take a dip. Be sure to bring "booties" as the beach is more rocky than sandy. The restaurants on the property, albeit a bit expensive, offer you anything from Asian to Italian; casual to fine dining. Personally, we really enjoyed The Chop House restaurant. The filet mignon was delicious! The resort also has a water park (for an additional fee) with three slides, a lazy river, and an infinity pool, but I highly recommend going after 4pm since they reduce the price to $5/per person for admission. All in all, the bilingual staff was very professional, the location of the resort on top of a cliff overlooking the ocean is first class, and proximity to San Juan and other amazing areas of Puerto Rico (including the El Yunque Rainforest) make this a great place for couples and families! Looking forward to staying back here when we come back to PR!

This place has the worst customer service. If you don't want your vacation to be ruined, go somewhere else. Nice hotel but super expensive and terrible staff. Rooms were dirty, the AC didn't work properly. The hotel manager was rude and unprofessional. In conclusion I would never stay at this hotel again. I wouldn't recomend this hotel to anybody

We went twice to the Bella Vista Restaurant during our stay and the food was terrific and our server Marilyn was wonderful. Service was great and food was even better. We went out of our way to get lunch and dinner at this restaurant - we were staying closer to San Juan.

This was our third stay over 20 years. Yes, she is in need of some renovations which are underway. We stayed for 6 nites the week of Aug 11th which turned out to be the best week! Local's kids are back in school and literally there were no lines anywhere from check-in to the funicular to Palomino Island. Two families on this trip. Each family stayed in the Las Brisas wing. Room was fine. Huge bathroom with fridge. Understand that the same developers have owned this property since day one. They just lease the Waldorf brand which is common hotel practice. Agree that in its current state is not quite up to that par, but we kind of already knew what to expect. They were starting renovations of the lobby during our stay. And, understand this property serves two target audiences; Conferences and Families, the latter being the prominent. If you are looking for couples paradise, this may not be your cup of tea. A la carte breakfast prices were very reasonable. Did not do the buffet, silly at $30 per person. Lunch prices were fine too. Dined at both Blossoms (Japanese side) which is pricey but service was great. Chops was the shining star of the two, but expect to pay 4 star steakhouse prices because that's what it is. Both family friendly and superb service. Waterpark was fine. Kids started to get a little bored but then got their second wind and made almost of day of it. Very small lazy river, 2 family friendly slides and a vertical slide for those more daring. Did not rent a car but did call on taxi driver Jose (787-218-5722) to taxi us at $5/head each way to two offsite restaurants and bio bay tour and he did a stop at CVS for us to pickup snacks, waters, beer, wine, etc. For Bio Bay Tour we opted to not do the kayaks but instead the electric boat which was so the way to go! Kayakers were bumping into each other in the dark. Sail/Snorkel was great! Also, there was a magic show almost every eve. Was $25/head but was great little entertainment. Lastly, we had offsite dinners at both La Estancia and Pasion. Pasion was amazing!!! Lobster stuffed whole fried snapper a must and the service impeccable.

Thank you for taking the time to write a very thorough review of the resort. We certainly appreciate you and your family staying with us and the feedback you have provided. You did pick a fabulous week to visit as occupancy tends to be a little lower after the first weekend in August. So happy to hear of your enjoyable experiences. We hope that you will be back again very soon!

our family of 4 (two kids ages 7 and 4) purchased a vacation at El Conq through costco travel and stayed 8/7/2014-8/13/2014. it was our first trip to Puerto Rico and the resort and we enjoyed both the island and the property. a quick summary ...
PRO'S:
* so many activities for the kids, including the popular Coqui Water Park, a "Scoutabout" scavenger hunt throughout the property, a water taxi to Palomino Island, pools, game arcades, gift shops, parrots
* very friendly, efficient, and helpful staff throughout the resort
* large room, ours was an upgraded garden view room on the 5th floor of building 4, overlooking the golf course
CON's:
* "high end" restaurants were disappointing--we visited the white tablecloth Chinese/Japanese restaurant, steak house, and Italian restaurants. while the service was earnest and friendly, the food was disappointing, especially given the price point. fortunately, there are less expensive dining options on the property, and good restaurants nearby (10 minute walk from the marina)
* surprisingly, for a Waldorf-Astoria-branded resort, there were small details that showed a lack of attention, such as dings in the drywall, touch-up paint jobs that were poorly done, and lack of soap in the dispensers in the women's restrooms
overall, the El Conquistador was a lovely place to stay and offers a lot for travelers with kids.

Room Tip: building 4 is well located and quieter (i.e., farther from the pain pool area)
