“This is the last place I would consider going back to in Fiji”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 July 2011

I learned this lesson the hard way. I read the warnings that Denaru Island is awful, but I naively thought, "its Fiji, how awful could it be?". In short, we checked in for our four night stay and checked out after only one night.

Don't get me wrong, the hotel is fine. Its an enormous western chain hotel. Probably a 3-3.5 star hotel by US/European standards. For me, its not at all what i flew 14 hours to find, but I accept that it may be some peoples' cup of tea. Our room was clean but smelled incredibly musty. To appreciate our "ocean view" you had to lean over the tiny balcony and look between two buildings. No what i was expecting. The complex itself reminds me more of enormous college dorm buildings or cheap apartment buildings. Pretty uninspired.

I feel like I went to a different beach than some of the reviewers on here. The water is dirty and unappealing. I didn't even consider getting in it, which says a lot for me as I love the ocean.

Perhaps we were just spoiled by our experiences on the beautiful outer islands of Fiji. In my opinion, they are more than worth the effort to get to - less crowded and exquisite beaches.

Our family of 4 stayed at the Sheraton Fiji Resort for 7 nights along with another 3 families. The staff were very friendly and helpful, our rooms were beautifully cleaned each day. Most of the food we had was really nice the only problem we had was with our fussy kids & having trouble not being easily able to get a made to order sandwich (bread & fillings ran out very quickly or just weren't available).
We ate a couple of times at Port Denarau which was alot cheaper than eating at the hotel although out of convenience we had more meals at the resorts than not.
We spent lots of time in the pool & it was great for our kids (ranging in age from 4-8). We didn't even go to the other pools available at the connected resorts. Wouldn't recommend this resort if you liked the beach as the sand is the black sand. Although a day trip to another island is a great way to get a beach fix.
The kids really enjoyed the kids club, the carers were so beautiful towards the kids and they did and made some great things.
We all had a great time joining in the daily entertainment provided by the Sheraton. It would have been very easy not to leave the resort at all as there was always something going on.
Great entertainment each night at the chime bar along with great cocktails!
We had a wonderful week at this resort & would definitely go back.

The Good lovely hotel with good size rooms and good location the staff helpful and very

THE BAD the cost of the food in the restarants was well overpriced and also the drinks
breakfast was aveage ,bacon only every second day it should be every day
the drinks in the bar were expensive cocktails was not included in happy hr
we were charged 20/ tax +10/ tax on a public holiday (Queens Birthday )
how can this be . when fiji is not in the commonwealth
we were not informed that this hotel was running a special for children

My boyfriend and I stayed here for 2 nights when we first arrived in Fiji for our first ever holiday, we were absolutely in love with this place!!! We wanted a taste of the 5 star Fiji....boy did we get that!! We arrived about 5pm after a long day of delayed flightdney, Sydney to Nadi and we were greeted BULA!! from lovely staff and the Lali drum welcomed us, we were escorted to the reception desk and given a welcome drink upon arrival. We were so thirsty, tired, worn out and the staff just lifted our spirits. We got to our room in time to see a STUNNING sunset!!

We got an Ocean Breeze Room which had the most LUSH bed of our entire 2 weeks we were in Fiji, the room was impeccably clean, a beautiful bathroom, the hotel is just superb. We have never been treated like such royalty before, nothing was ever too much trouble for the staff. We chose to eat at the Flying Fish restaurant, our first night, why not!! It was superb. Mid way through dinner some Meke dancers entertained and fire twirling and fire dancing was done around the pool. Spectacular!!!!!

We loved the pools, laying on the beach, the staff were always on your beck and call whatever we wanted we could have. I could not have had a better first 3 days in Fiji...we were so sad to leave as we went on to Sonaisali Island, we were extremely impressed with everything at the Sheraton, we ate in all the restaurants, drank in all the bars :) free internet connection room was brilliant - such a lifesaver. We will DEFINITELY be back!!!!!!!! Vinaka!!!!

We chose the Sheraton Fiji Resort as a quick family getaway for a mid-winter break. The hotel is located 20 minutes from Nandi Airport and 5 minutes from the Port of Denarau. The hotel's rooms which were refurbished in the last 2 years are large, bright and tastefully decorated with views of either the gardens or the ocean. Rooms offer either 2 double beds or 1 king bed. Each room has a small balcony. The resort is large and very spread out along the black sandy ocean. There is a mini bar (unstocked) and a good size flat screen TV in each room. The bathroom is very large with either a stand alone shower or shower/tub combination. We were very happy with the standard of the rooms. The beauty of staying at one of the Sheraton/Westin/Sheraton Villas is the flexibility in using all the facilites and reciprocal charging argeements. We enjoyed breakfast at both the Sheraton and the Westin. We also used the pool facilites at the other 2 Starwood resorts.
Where the resort let us down was the pool ! The main pool is small compared to the pools at the other Denarau Hotels (Radisson/Hllton/Wyndham/Sofitel) - it is suitable for young children but for teenagers/adults is not invitiing. The adults only pool is very small for a resort pool and didn't look very clean - we therefore chose not to swim in the Sheraton's pools.
There is a kids club at Sheraton with activities throughout the day including beach games, basket weaving, fish feeding and more.
A benefit of staying at the Sheraton is the mini supermarket and Cafe Piazza in the grounds of the hotel but operated independently.
The beauty of staying on Denarau Island is the proximity to the Port of Denarau which offers an alternative (and less expensive option) to resort dining. The taxi trip from the Denarau resorts to the Port is FJD5 .

Room Tip: Request a room close to reception/restaurant/pool areas to elimitate long walking distances.

The resort was brilliant and everything worked like clockwork from the opening Bula on our arrival until our check-out.
The pools were wonderful and with the food deal we were on (from MyFiji) we got to experience all the restaurants. Port O Call was fine dining at its best!
My wife, our children and I really enjoyed our stay and we will return.
