“Ideal for a short break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2013

Just back from 5 nights at the Westin and although I rate the hotel 4 stars because of a few shortfalls in the room, the overall experience was definitely 5 stars. The resort is lovely, the breakfasts wonderful, but it's the staff here who really makes the place sing.
Special mention to Arun Kumar who runs the Lawn Bowls activity and Lola the lovely waitress who served drinks around the pool. Arun plays for Fiji and takes care of the green which is of international standard. I'd never had any interest in lawn bowls in my life but through his patience, expertise and lovely manner he was able to impart a love for the game and make it the highlight of our late afternoons there.
Just back to the couple of shortfalls, our bathroom had no ventilation whatsoever which was really hard to comprehend and when we asked the lovely room attendant for a candle or air freshener we had a knock at the door and opened to receive 4 bottles of water. We're guessing someone else was more surprised to have received air freshener when they opened theirs. Not there long enough to make any of this too much of a problem and the relaxed and friendly nature of the Fijians makes up for some small shortfalls. Deck chairs around the pool area could also benefit from some cushioning but with the Sheraton to choose from as well there are a few options. Overall a great experience for myself and my 82 year old mother.
TIPS: We had an Accor card which meant we could eat at the adjoining Sofitel Hotel for 50% off. If you don't have an Accor card, purchase a Starwood Card which gives you the same discount at both the Sheraton and Westin Hotels. Yearly cost easily offset by the savings on food alone.

While staying at a resort is a lovely experience if you have the time or inclination, it's also very rewarding to give back to the community there. Because I travelled separately to my mother, I caught a local taxi to the hotel and the driver was overjoyed to get the fare esp from a tourist as they miss out a lot with the resorts using their own drivers and local drivers not able to pick you up from there. Fijian living standards are still very low and unemployment is high so getting out of resort areas getting yourself to Nadi then catching a local taxi to the villages etc is a great eye opener and a lovely way to see the culture first hand. Gifts of toys and books etc are always received with overwhelming gratitude and give the whole resort experience a bit more texture.

Room Tip: While we were across from the lap pool and gym, the room was very dark and next time I'd pay the...

We stayed at the Westin for 5 nights to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary. We had a great time. The resort was lovely, our room (Ocean View) was very nice. We loved the bed!! and the shower.

The pool area was excellent. We did a pool hop one day from the Sheraton back to the Westin and we thought that the Westin pools were nicer.

Staff were very accommodating and friendly. We didn't have breakfast included in our stay so we only had the buffet once, and we went down to the Port for breakfast one day (although it was impossible to find a bowl of cereal) on the menus!. We ended up buying some breakfast cereal at the supermarket and just ate this in our room.

We did go down to the Sheraton for dinner on our first night - we ate at the Feast restaurant and had the international buffet - expensive but a big variety of food it was all you can eat. TIP if you are arriving late in the afternoon especially on a Wednesday (when the Zing restaurant is closed at the Westin) it might be a good idea to pre-book a table before you leave.

We had dinner at the "Flying Fish" at the Sheraton - exquisite food and presentation and the location was spectacular. We also had pizza (amazing) at the Golf Club which was really reasonably priced. I had the best "bruschetta" I have ever tasted at the Wet Edge cafe at the Sheraton Villas.

We used the "free" bula bus (brown) between the resorts (Sheraton, Westin and Sheraton Villas) during the evening (runs from 3.30pm to 11pm), and paid for the blue bula bus ($8 FJD) to go to the Port to do some shopping and eat.

A couple of things to be aware of - the refrigerators in the rooms are inside a cupboard and don't work very efficiently probably because of the build up of hot air. We kept the door open and the fridge worked better, but it still wasn't as cold as I would have liked. I also agree with some of the comments about the noise from other rooms - but it wasn't a big issue for us.

I kept a track of what we had spent and when we checked out the account was spot on - no issues whatsoever.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely be back.

We have just had 10 nights at Westin Denerau - very disappointed. The resort needs a lot of work, needs refurbishing. We had a so-called refurbished ocean front room.............newish floor tiles and bathroom wall tiles was about as far as the refurbishment went as far as I could tell. We paid approx NZ$400/night for this and were very disappointed. The staff to greet you in lobby/reception etc were excellent, but the Ocean Front room we had (apparently one of the better rooms apart from suites) leaves a bit to be desired. The air conditioning was very noisy and ineffective, we could not leave on at night while sleeping due to the noise. There was no ceiling fan in the room so I am glad we were not on a ground floor room, at least we could leave our door to the balcony open to let in some fresh air. We would have cooked in a ground floor room. Bed was very comfortable. The "fridge" or was it just a wine chiller was a waste of time!! Couldn't even chill water/beer/soft-drinks to a decent refreshing temperature. No temp adjustment on it so I presume it wasn't actually a fridge. Bathroom/toilet was very disappointing. The shower was over the bath, no extraction fan for steam or "other" aromas and the toilet was in the bathroom. Ocean front meant to be one of the better rooms? We spoke to another couple who were in "Ocean Breeze" room, they DID have ceiling fan, DID have separate shower and DID have separate toilet.
Bedside phone didn't work, stereo in room would lose radio station after approx 5 mins, broken switch on bedside control panel. Balcony very dirty.
But credit where credit is due - if it wasn't for the ice-maker 5 steps outside our door I would have rated this resort "1" star. Only way to get a beer cold enough!!
Seems a little odd that when we booked this resort through travel agent/other web sites it is advertised as 4 1/2 - 5 star resort but when you sign into WIFI at the resort the Westin Denerau home page comes up and it says 2 1/2 stars?????
My wife went to the Spa............excellent massage but had to wait 1 1/2 hours due to staff member running late?? Did give extra 1/2 hour for free. Sent fruit platter to room also but due to totally ineffective fridge/cooler had to throw most of it out. This was also the first time we had anything but a teaspoon in our room for cutlery, (knife & fork came with platter) bit hard to cut a piece of cheese for cheese and crackers etc without a knife.
I think the rooms are designed/fitted out so you use the resort bars/restaurants etc.
Restaurants and bars on the resort are way over the top on prices, extremely expensive!! Eat at Port Denerau or the Golf Club if staying at the resorts, food and drink prices much more reasonable.
Breakfasts were excellent at the Westin, the deal we had also allowed us to have breakfast at the Sheraton next door, we tried it once - disgusting - same food but no other word for it!!
Sorry Westin but on our next trip to Fiji/Denerau if we are tossing up between resorts we will be returning to Hilton (Fiji Beach Resort) We have stayed there twice before and in our opinion is head and shoulders above Westin.

Room Tip: Don't always think the more expensive rooms with better views are actually better rooms.

Thank you for taking time out to provide us with your feedback. Naturally we are disappointed that we failed to meet your expectations in terms of our product and service. When compared to Hilton which is a serviced apartment type product, we are a traditional hotel product and perhaps the difference that you have mentioned. We do apologise for the service shortfalls which I have escalated to the department heads responsible.
However, it is is pleasing to note that you enjoyed our SuperFoods nspired breakfast offerings and spa treatment and our teams service recovery when they made mistakes.
We do hope your overall stay in Fiji was a positive one.
Warm regards

Our family of 5 have recently returned from a 7 day stay at the Westin and really enjoyed our time there. The room were spacious & clean and the beds really comfortable. The staff was very friendly and helpful when we needed anything. Breakfast was fantastic and having use of the other two resorts facilities was a huge advantage. The live music around the pool area was fantastic. The Port and the Golf Club were within easy walking distance if you wanted a change from eating in the resort. The perfect place for relaxing & sipping cocktails by the pool. The Jet-ski safari was amazing & worth the money.

We have recently returned from a 7 day stay at the Westin and really enjoyed our time there. The room was clean and the beds really comfortable. Staff very friendly and helpful when we needed anything. Breakfast was fantastic and the restaurants pretty good but it was also easy to get to other resorts, the Port and the Golf Club to have a meal elsewhere. The Golf Club meals were very reasonably priced. Perfect place for a relaxing, pool lounging, cocktail sipping break away.

Room Tip: Our room was right next to the pool with a sea view, this was worth the upgrade. Nice and close to...

From arrival to departure there was nothing other than excellence and friendliness in our stay at Westin. Room was very comfortable and spacious; staff very efficient and forever smiling; food of very high standard; property beautifully maintained and not a hitch anywhere in our planned itinerary. Immediately on returning home we started talking about when we would go back and that will be in the coming year. We are already telling friends how good it was and giving our recommendation to them to go there.

Room Tip: Ocean view room 2509 on ground floor can be personally recommended. Short walk across the grassed ar...
