“Good hotel, beautiful setting, staff friendly.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 December 2012

Good hotel in a great position, not too far from airport, staff friendly, requests for room type granted. Quiet rooms overlooking gardens and sea. Walk to Marina which has a good atmosphere for drinks and restaurants. Limited 2 hours free wifi in hotel reception area only.

Room Tip: 3 floors, suggest top floor for views and breezes. Quieter rooms which are farthest away from main h...

Stayed here for a week in October and was overall quite impressed with the hotel. Few little letdowns for us included that we felt that the buffett breakfast just was no where near to the standard of any other Sofitels that we had stayed at, as such we only used it once. The other restaurants were all of reasonable quality, and the upmarket V was very good, certainly well up there with the standard of any high class restaurant in Australia.

As others have eluded don't be afraid to travel to any of the other resorts in Denarau and try out their restaurants, or the port, Bula buses, taxis are all easy options, and if you don't mind a bit of a walk it's probably only a 15 min walk.

The hotel was good, but certainly personally I felt in many areas the hotel was certainly not up to the standard of any of the Sofitels that i'd stay at in Australia. Just little things like as others had mentioned, that on various days that you had to chase up towels or bathmats, even on calling at times the response was quite fast, other times it was up to 30 min wait for them to arrive, not a big deal but at the same time just not something that I'd ever dealt with in a Sofitel in Australia. The other personal disappoint was things as simple as the fact that the bathroom doors were so ill fitted that the bathroom floor totally flooded the floor and soaked the sad bathmat that at times you had to wait to be delivered. You then had a soaked mat to use the morning after if required. Similarly the bar fridge was tiny, so was difficult to bring your own drinks to the room to consume.

The pool was great, but as others mentioned completely selfish other travellers woke up early and secured the sun loungers, the hotel is that large that it meant that for a large part of the day you simply couldn't get anywhere near the pool due to all the loungers being taken up, very sad how selfish other travellers can be.

Overall, a great holiday in a great location with very friendly staff, just a few aspects of the soft and hard product aren't up to the usual Sofitel experience you get in Australia.

Room Tip: If it concerns you, ground floor rooms seem to have tiled floors and a shower over bath, whereas roo...

Bonjour Bristraveler,

Thank you for taking the time to post your last review about your stay with us, we are pleased to read that you enjoyed your overall stay and understand you has a few issues. I am sorry that you had a gab in your shower door and so you ended up with a wet bath mat after eash shower, we hope to add extra sills to stop this from happening to that room type again for the future. I know that the mini bars arent big enough to fit in enough beverage bought from out side of the hotel and brought back in, but this is way they are called a mini bar fridge and not a full size fridge.

We had a fabulous stay at Sofitel, and while I agree with other reviews that it doesn't seem up to the same standard as "urban" Sofitels, it is still a fabulous resort with a good selection of amenities, facilities and activities. Adrenalin Fiji are based at Sofitel and we went diving with them, they were fantastic, but they offer a number of activites and the staff are sooo friendly. A must visit is the Pure Fiji store in the resort - I am now a Pure Fiji addict!
We got an upgrade room which was beautiful, and the enormous bed was heavenly! The room fridge is quite small, but there are ice buckets and ice makers handy. The complimentary guest laundry was really helpful if you are there for a longer stay.
I think we arrived at the start of 'low' season which was great because the resort didn't seem too busy, even though there seemed to be alot of people at breakfast. The breakfast buffet is great, but we ate at the the resort cafe La Parisienne for a lite breakfast most days. Buffet dinner in Lagoon restaurant is pretty good, but for a change we went into Port Denarau for a couple of dinners, and the selection there is pretty good. It's only a 15 mins stroll from the resort. Dinner in the resorts a la carte restaurant 'V' was superb, with nice touches by the excellent staff, ie complimentary tasters from the chef, warm cloths to freshen up etc.
We had trouble with our transfer from the airport, however the staff at Sofitel were very helpful in clearing up the matter with the transfer company on our behalf. A previous reviewer mentioned about being charged for internet they did not use, WATCH OUT for this as we also had Internet charges on our account that were not ours. Eventually this was sorted out.
In general the staff were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: It seems all rooms are good, usually with a view of the ocean. If you have children it may pay to as...

Check in staff helpful, obliging and Fiji-friendly. We had an upgraded king size room 2nd floor - great outlook, good layout! Every room in this hotel has an outlook towards the beach or swimming pool. Great beds! Fantastic smorgasbord breakfast. Best restaurants in Denarau especially V. We have an Accor card so food is 50% off which makes it 'doubly fantastic' especially by Fiji standards! We ate at the Port and the restaurants did not compare with quality and service. Stress being on the service which is what the Sofitel is all about! This is difficult to Achieve in Fiji and they've managed to do it!
Only thing that was a little frustrating was the difficulty to get a sunbed if you weren't organised to put a towel on lounger at breakfast!

Room Tip: All rooms have outlook. Upgraded seem to be a little bigger. Ground floor would be good with kids an...

On a recent holiday to Fiji, New Zealand and Australia my wife and I spent five nights at the Sofitel on Denerau Island in Fiji. We found the hotel pool and sports facilities very good but the food was definitely below average for a hotel purporting to be 4 to 5 star. While we were ther a conference of Travel Managers was being held on the hotels premises so breakfast was something of a bun fight to find a seat in the Lagoon restaurant. We ate most evening meals in this restaurant where we found the food rather bland. The evening we booked to have a meal at the Salt Restaurant it poured with rain and when we went to take up our booking we were informed that we would probably get wet as the roof cover in that restaurant was inadequate. We then resorted to the use of the Lagoon restaurant once again!

On the positive side the local staff in the hotel were very helpful.

The rooms were somewhat outdated and definitely need upgrading.

In general we would not rush back to this hotel.

Bonjour dws316,

Thank you for your review from your last visit and providing us with your feedback. I am sorry to read that you didnt completly enjoy the Lagoon Buffet dinner, it was a shame you couldnt eat in Salt due to the weather and rain. This is not because the roofing is inadiquate but more that this is no roof at all. The tables in this outlet are located under umbrellas next to the ocean to take advantage of an outdoor feel, of course when it rains heavily this concept works against us. Its a shame that you didnt try V Restaurant here as it is currently listed as the number one restaurant in Fiji on this web page.

Kind regards,

Absolutely loved this resort. Rooms were extremely comfortable and well appointed. The different restaurant areas and shops made this a one stop destination where you could just relax for a couple of days before heading out to the islands or up the coast. The Fijian touches also added to the magic of this resort: coconut husking, fijian cultural dances, fire shows, blowing of the conch shell etc. I have stayed at a few hotels at Denarau and I am definitely now settled on returning to the Sofitel. Can't fault this resort, the service was exceptional. You can't go past the ACCOR chain they simpley excel in this industry. Grab an ACCOR card and you also will receive amazing discounts on dining and complimentary nights.
