“Loved Fiji!”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

We have just returned from a fantastic week at The Wyndham: one of those where we paid a low price for our accommodation in exchange for attending their 90 minute timeshare seminar. We didn't buy anything, but the offer was enticing and we met other owners who had enjoyed many years of holidays with no regrets. We travelled with our three kids and my Mum, and we really loved the whole experience, even though our apartment was older and a bit tired compared to others we saw.The pool area was great for keeping a eye on the kids and the spa was a lovely treat at the end of the day. Bar food was yummy, especially the garlic bread and the tandoori pizza, and we enjoyed our quesadillas at Mamacitas. We all looked forward to the nightly ritual of drum beating, Fijian serenade and torch lighting. The kids want to move there permanently! Thank you Wyndham, for a lovely holiday!

Right from the time we entered Wyndham resort to the time we left, we were treated to a wonderful experience and our stay at the resort has been nothing short of fantastic. All the resort staff were friendly during our stay and would always greet us no matter how busy or what time of the day it was. All issues we had were sorted out swiftly and treated with the upmost importance. For instance when the air conditioner was not working, someone came down quickly to fix the problem. They were curteous and friendly. The resort is kept clean at all times and our stay was fantastic all round- would definately come back.

We are staying at this resort and have found it to be wonderful. The units are clean, generous, nicely furnished and air conditioned, The staff are very helpful, friendly and can't do enough for you. The pools are lovely and clean, we particularly enjoy cocktails in the Adults Only Pool. The food in the restaurants is great. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: ocean view rooms are our favourite. You get to enjoy the lighting ceremony etc without leaving you...

Wonderful location and one of several resorts on Denarau Island. Great food at the "Mexican" restaurant. Huge clean swimming pool. Fijians are the most friendly folk around. Helpful, smiling, always happy to have a chat, even if it's just a Bula! as you pass.
Some older rooms are due for renovation but most are comfortable, clean, spacious and a home away from home if you wish to cook and do your washing even.

Room Tip: Not in 2000 block yet!

My boyfriend and I stayed in a one bedroom garden view apartment for 8 days. Our time there was very fun and relaxing. Our favorite part about WorldMark was having a full kitchen included in our room, along with a washer/dryer and dishwasher. Having the comforts of home with a touch of Fiiji made traveling much more enjoyable. Our only complaint is that the hot tub was luke warm, almost cold, and it was not running at night and we could not figure out how to turn it on.

We splurged on the tours which run about $60-$120US depending on where you go. So we tried to save on food and alcohol. We bought our own food and BBQ'd at the resort or made food in our kitchenette about 90% of the time.
Tips: Alcohol is very EXPENSIVE on the island. Expecially the hard alcohol. For those of you who like to drink, buy the max (liters) you can from the dutyfree shop at the airport. It will be the cheapest at the LAX airport for those leaving the USA. If you forget to buy there or just want more then get it at the Duty Free in the Nadi Airport. It was about $10 US more a bottle at the Nadi Airport, but you won't regret it. If you have to buy alcohol on the island, go into Nadi Town otherwise you will pay a fortune at the Port and at the resorts on Denarau island. Here were some average prices: 29.95FJ for 12pk of water =$17.21 US (depending on what the exchange rate is for the day. )189.95FJ for 1 liter of Kahlua=$109.16 US, 149.00FJ for 1 liter absolute vodka=$85.63US,62.99FJ for 24pk Fiji Gold beer=$36.20US, 158.00FJ for 750 ml of patron tequila=$90.80US. As you can see very expensive. The cheapest Fiji gold beer we found was at Shop N Save Supermarket in Nadi Town for 55.95FJ. We brought a soft sided collapsible cooler with us (from Costco). It came in very handy as for we could bring our own drinks/snacks to the pool/beach/or tour with us without having to pay crazy prices. The water on all the resorts is safe. We never got sick. We did recycle our water bottles by washing them out then refilling them for the next day as for bottled water is also not that cheap. Cool thing was we also froze some of our water bottles. This way we used it as our ice packs to keep the cooler cold and by mid day the frozen water had thawed and we now had cold water to drink. In Fiji its humid/hot and everything melts fast and your drinks get warm fast if you don't drink them right away.
Sunblock: The average price for a regular bottle of sunblock was $24.95FJ=$14.33US. Bring some from home. You can get two for that price in the US at Walmart,Target or CVS Pharmacy.
Bug Spray: Again bring some from home otherwise it is expensive on the island. Yes, there are mosquito's on the tours, island etc. so bring some.
Bula Bus:If you want to save some money, just ride the Yellow Bus for 1.15FJ. The Bula Bus and Yellow bus go to the same places!!! The Yellow bus is just somewhat older and run down and the employees/locals use it, but it is safe.
Count your change and get your receipt: If you use the Yellow Bus I would use exact change. If not just make sure you count your change. We were short changed once( but caught the error right away). Another traveler said she was also over charged too at one time during her trip. The bellhops at your resort will tell you the right price to pay. Yee's Xpressmarket on the island short changed us a dollar but again we caught the error right away.
At first we were nervous to go into town by ourselves(2 girls) so we bought food and drink at the port, we paid $423.70FJ!!!!! We stayed 14 days, so our next trip to the grocery store we decided to go into town, much cheaper. The outdoor market is right next to the bus stop and all the stores are also a short distance from bus stop. If you are not too sure what yellow bus to take back to the resorts just ask, the people are very friendly and helpful.
Exchange rate: It varied everyday. One day we got 1.69US for every FJ dollar(at the port) The highest we got was 1.76FJ for every FJ dollar. If coming from US don't exchange money till you get into Fiji. You will get a better bang for your buck in Fiji. If you can't wait and need FJ money right away then exchange some at the Nadi Airport. The Sheraton will exchange money(walking distance from the Wyndham.)The Nadi Airport had a better exchange rate than the Sheraton. The best exchange rate was at the Port on Denarau island. I can't say what it is in Nadi town cause we never exchanged money there( but my guess it probably has the best exchange rate) I saw ATM machines at every resort. If going back into US and you still have FJ money then exchange in Fiji, don't exchange back in US, they have a horrible rate.
Mamacita Restaurant: If you like Mexican, this is the place. We ate here twice and loved it each time.
Karma Bar: Just ok. We ate here once. The food was good, wouldn't call it great and our server seemed more interested in watching the fire show then serving us our four course meal.
Happy Hour: Buy drinks during happy hour if you are going to drink. If not avg price at Karma bar and swim up bar is: $23FJ for mixed drink, $6FJ for Fiji Gold Beer,$12FJ for wine,$19FJ for fish and chips,$18FJ for burger and fries. Sad to say but the other resorts had drinks that were about 50cents to a dollar cheaper.
Tours: Almost all tours leave from the Port. So don't worry about crowding on the first bus, that arrives at your hotel....you will all get to the port on time! If you don't know what tour bus is yours just ask the porter, they will let you know. We scheduled almost all our tours out of Rosie Holiday's who are located inside the Wyndham. We had excellent service. It seemed like all the tour prices were about average from other hotels and even at the many kiosks at the Port. Prior to our arrival in Fiji we did schedule two tours by internet through Viator. They were great and we had no issues. They were about 3 dollars cheaper a tour since we did it in advance. We never had a tour that was sold out. I don't know if it was because of the time of year or what. But if you are worried about the tours selling out during peak seasons then check into Viator. Oh yeah and don't buy the Captains Lounge upgrade on your tours it is not worth it.
South Sea Island: Can do a full day tour or half day. What you can expect: beach is made up of mainly white coral. So if you don't have tough feet keep your sandals on. They do have a small pool. Staff's hospitality seemed a little forced, unlike the other islands. But still they did an ok job. Non waterized sports included. We did want to do the Hobie Cat. The staff said there was not enough wind, to wait later in day. We waited till after lunch when the wind picked up. They said still not enough wind. (yet too windy to do stand up paddle board) Disappointed they didnt' let us at least try the Hobie Cat. If you do their submarine tour and their is a lot of people, take the second tour. They will try and cram 25+ people on that submarine. There is no room to move and it gets hot in there. If you are a little claustrophobic then wait for the second tour, which is usually around 10 people. Food was good. It seems like the standard food on all the tours.Snorkeling off the island just ok. Go with the group tour that they offer, it is much better.
Castaway Island Tour: If you want peace and relaxation, this is the place. White sandy beach. Calm water. Water does have seaweed and seagrass so if you don't like to step in it just wear water shoes. My water shoes came in so handy! Snorkeling just ok, and you might want to pick up your gear right away. My mom and I had to share a set because they ran out.You get to pass by and see other islands on your way to Castaway island.
Sleeping Giant Zipline Tour:Staff was awesome!! Place was beautiful. You get to zip all the lines twice. Then you have lunch. After lunch you can swim in the tide pools. After that you take a 20 minute hike up to two different water falls, where you also get to swim. When you get back you have a choice of zipping the lines again or swimming in the tide pools. The only downfall is the mosquitos. They provide you with repellant but those suckers some how get you.
Seaspray Tour: If you like to boat and snorkel this is the tour for you. You will take a catamaran to Mana Island. The Catamaran is more like a boat that holds about 200 people. You will be dropped off at the Seaspray sail boat. You will more like motor to,not sail, to Modriki island where the snorkeling is great. This is the island where they filmed Castaway Island. After snorkeling, you have lunch on the boat and then head off toYanua Island to visit the Yanua village.I felt like this part was rushed and it seemed like we had no time to visit this village, that was the only thing I did not like about the trip. Staff was great on this trip all you can eat and drink(alcohol) and they play music for you too. We had a group of dolphins follow our boat for a while.
MudBaths Tour: If you like mud and hot springs this is the place. We had fun. We went with Valentine Tours, but again it was set up by Rosie Holidays right at our resort. Valentine Tour guide, Mukesh, was great.
We ate dinner at the Sheraton-The Flying Fish. Food was excellent, but pricey. would recommend staying at least 10 days or more if you want to tour the other islands. TheWyndham hotel and our room was clean. Manasa-the porter was excellent and friendly. If you came in from town with a bag of groceries he would help you to your room.If you needed anything he would help you out instantly! Nancy at the Karma bar was also very fun and friendly. The construction was a little annoying but it seemed like all the resorts had some type of construction going on. I believe we had an older room, but we loved the location. We ate breakfast every morning on our balcony. We did notice some of the newer rooms that were on the top floor had no covering from sun or rain. So they werent able to enjoy sitting on the balcony like us. Would have to say the resort is very kid friendly. This was a down fall for us because we left the kids at home and wanted to enjoy some peace. Not much peace at times at the main pool, kids were crazy. So we just went to the adult pool. Enjoy, you will love it there!
