Stayed here in March 2012 for one night as travelling from Te Anau to Christchurch. First impressions was that the hotel looked really nice & seemed quite posh & up market compared with others in the area (many of which appeared to be motels). Our room was fairly big with two double beds & a lovely view over the hotel grounds with snow capped mountains in the distance. The decor however was quite dated - furniture & wardrobes looked like they were from the 1960's & the carpets were very worn in places. Also the bathroom had one of those horrid blue plastic floors & was in dyer need of modernisation. We had been staying in various places throughout New Zealand & it was by far the oldest hotel we had stopped at. The staff were friendly enough also but we didn't eat at the hotel so I'm unable to comment on the food.
Probably wouldn't stay at this hotel again but that's also due to lack of things to do in Twizel itself. Yes they have quite a few bars but none that made you feel comfortable to stay in for any length of time!More
