“Good hotel-restaurant.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 July 2013

Good menu, slightly let down by the cooking - steaks were not quite cooked correctly. But still OK. Wine list is good.

“Never again”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 May 2013

The check-in assistant talked us into having the buffet as we were staying the night. The menu on the buffet was limited but still very nice looking, so we decided to have her book us a table. There was a bus of tourists coming through at 5pm, so we agreed to come after at around 7pm when it would be less busy.

Once we arrived, the waiter told us there were having a limited version of the buffet, as the tour bus was there. This wasn't what we had been told earlier, and now the already limited buffet was even more limited. As it was 7pm we didn't have much choice but to agree.

We had to order a shrimp cocktail separately, as they were off the buffet now, when it came, the biggest disappointment, it was 5 shelled prawns, with no flavour, and a bland thousand island dressing on top of lettuce that was mostly inedible stalks.

The rest of the buffet food was horribly unappealing, with the exception of the lamb leg. They had 1 chef that was walking between the kitchen and the carving station, and my first small slice was cut for me. As there was nothing else to eat, I decided to have a little bit more lamb, though when going up to the carving station the chef had gone back to the kitchen, and I waited with another guest for 10 minutes with no luck, before he gave up and carved his own slice. I decided to do the same, but there was no real meat left on the leg. When the chef finally did appear, we asked if anything was going to be restocked, she said no, and that they were closing down. It was very strange, people were still being seated for the buffet at this time, so they would have had even less than we had, which was barely anything.

Suffice to say I went back to the room still very hungry, and $120 out of pocket for the 2 of us for a meal that we didn't get to eat, a beer and a glass of wine.

Never ever coming back to this place again, at least the room was nice, and its conveniently located close to mount cook, which is absolutely beautiful.

“Pleasant food - good view over the lake”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2013

Service was good and so was the food. Nothing too complex but what they did, they did well. You can choose to cook your food on a hot stone that they bring to the table but we didn't bother as it looked a bit gimmicky.

“First rate food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 October 2012

You can choose between the buffet (primarily aimed at the tour buses), the bar menu or the a-la-carte menu. We chose the a-la-carte menu and were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the meals which were obviously cooked by a top-notch chef as everything was cooked to perfection and the flavours were superb. We expected a basic tourist hotel meal but got much more than that.
