This is the place to come if you want to experience the South Island at its very best. We stayed three nights, the first two when we were the only guests and the third when joined by a delightful Dutch couple. As everyone else notes, its the hosts Mike and Sue that make Silverpine the special place that it is, although the stunning outlook and location run them close. Mike provides great advice on how to pass the time and, if you're up for some exercise you should certainly put a few hours to one side to walk the hills behind the lodge, ably assisted by "Roy" as your trusty guide dog, where you can enjoy sweeping views of lakes Wanaka and Hawea. You'll then be ideally prepared to enjoy and appreciate Sue's food which is another highlight of any visit to Silverlodge. And finally we owe Mike & Sue a special thank you. On our final day, back in Queenstown my wife realised that she had misplaced her camera, without knowing exactly where - but Mike and Sue helped track it down to a cafe near Makarora - and then wrapped it and dispatched it back to us in Sydney courtesy of some of their friends. That sums Silverlodge up really.
