We weren't sure what to expect from this tour but it was worth every cent. Our guide James was very professional and took us up the deserted Matukitukir river, where we were met with some of the most beautiful views we saw in NZ (which is saying something!) and a lovely walk through beech forest. I would recommend this tour to anybody looking for a memorable experience rather than just being flung about in a jet boat.

This is a must do trip. Other jetboat trips tend to be more about the thrills over a short distant, whereas the Wanaka River Journeys jetboat trip is more about the journey itself, which is over quite a long distance up the Matukituki, and the beautiful scenery of the Mount Aspiring region. I've driven and walked along the Matukituki valley a number of times but travelling up the river by boat offers quite a different perspective, and you still get a few jetboat thrills from boat driver James. He also has considerable knowledge of the region and he's entertaining too. The whole operation is very professional and enjoyable from the moment we were picked up by Leah until our return back to Wanaka. Excellent value.

We took the Jet Boat & Walk 1/2 day tour in Wanaka on Fri 14th March 14 and we were not disappointed. It was fun, informative, efficient, relaxed and beautifully stunning scenery. We didn't see another human being for 4 hours and we enjoyed a small group of 8 people. The operation run by Brent and James were second to none and they wouldn't have done more to make our trip a great one.

Highly recommended.

Good for couples, solo or families

Thank you A+++++++

They said it was a 44 kilometre boat ride but seemed much shorter and the return leg was less than half that of the outgoing leg to accommodate, other tourists in a hurry. Reminds us to ask more questions before we book the walk is of little significance. People were enthusiastic and friendly

thank you for your review, We don't normally answer trip adviser reviews unless there is a need so the public are not misguided. This is one of those instances.
It was correct information that you were given but misinterpreted by you. 44 kilometers was just the up stream leg of your jet boat trip. You actually travelled a total of 70 kilometers on the jet boat during your morning with us !
Our afternoon passengers do the reverse of what you did in the morning and because of the vast distance and the shallow, braided nature of the Matukituki River we do travel fast in the jet boat, it is what jet boats are built to do and is absolutely necessary to safely navigate this River. This is most definitely not so we can accommodate tourists in a hurry.
Our trip is 4 hours long and we often exceed that time because our guides are so engaged with our passengers. There is only one other Jet Boat Company in NZ that travels further than us, this the Wairaurahiri Jet in the south of the South Island, also a great jet boat trip.
We do regret that your focus was more on time and distance and therefore were disappointed with your trip with us.

A half day trip on a jet boat along the east leg of the river, not a thrill ride but fun. the boat travels along the river to within 3km of Avalanche Glacier, we also could see Mount Aspiring as the weather was great. All the staff were great, very professional
