On a rainy day, we wanted a dry adventure for our day in Wanaka. So we loaded up in a van with our most humble driver and tour guide, Stuart Elms. During our drive, he mentioned that he once grew grapes, so I announced that we are growing grapes in our garden at home but need some expert advice. On all of our stops of his great selection of vineyards, the purveyors of wine tastings alluded to their admiration for our guide. After much proding, we discovered Stuart's illustrious past and his influence on the region. Also, he took me out into a vinyard, with rain falling on our heads, and showed my how to prune and train my own vines back home. This wine tour was one the highlights for our two week motorcycle tour of the South Island.
