“Alpine Peak Apartment @ Websters on Wanaka”
Reviewed 13 January 2014

We stayed in the self contained 2 bedroom Alpine Peak Apartments for 7 days over the Christmas/New Year period. On arrival Liz welcomed us with a warm smile and friendly nature. She had home baked fruit cake and two different types of biscuits in the cookie tin along with fresh complimentary ground coffee for us to enjoy. After a lengthy day of travel these were warm comforts to ease into our stay.

The accommodation was well appointed, roomy and both bedrooms had great views of the mountains. The beds were extremely comfortable with crisp, good quality linen. Two bathrooms adjoining each of the bedrooms along with a TV in each room, as well as the sitting area, all went well for accommodating our two children (10 yrs & 14 yrs) with ease. The kitchen had all that we required and the use of the laundry was welcomed as well.

The sunny mornings were spent having breakfast on the balcony once again in full view of the mountains and the acreage around the homestead certainly assisted with the feeling of space.

The outdoor spa that has recently been built into the balcony was an added bonus, as was the two well kept mountain bikes that were available for our use during our stay.

Liz assisted with sharing her local knowledge on Wanaka and surrounds and also went to the extent of booking and confirming our additional tours and activities during our week long stay.

Liz and Neil have a great set up with these self contained apartments adjoining their B&B and home. It was a great pleasure to have found Alpine Peak Apartment and we thoroughly enjoyed meeting both Liz and Neil.

We highly recommend you visit Websters on Wanaka and stay in either the self contained apartments or the B&B. We will definitely return and tell all our friends about this treasure in Central Otago on the South Island of New Zealand.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience of our Alpine Peaks Apartment You have captured so much of the little extras we offer that don't often come with apartments and yet make it so easy for families and small groups travelling together to have a great stay and be self-catering. The complimentary use of the bikes, the spa, DVD's and even the air conditioning in summer and staying multiple nights really offer the opportunity to get the most value out of your stay. We loved meeting you and assisting whenever required but were pleased you had made use of our information centre you were fairly independent and adventurous.

From the moment Liz greeted us at the front door, we knew this was going to be a very enjoyable place to stay.

Although they have only been operating for just over a couple of years, boy have Liz & Neil got the hang of the B&B business. Their house is absolutely gorgeous and has beautiful views of the mountains. Their is also a delightful hot tub which is great way to finish the day off.

Our room was very clean and well appointed with a great bathroom. Plenty of complimentary tea & coffee was available in the communal kitchen.

Liz & Neil always invite guests to enjoy some canapés and a glass of wine with them around 6.30pm. A lovely idea and a very enjoyable one too.

Breakfast is to die for, Liz does absolutely perfect poached eggs (which believe me is not easy) and the eggs are laid on the premises!! On our last morning I had not only the eggs, but also three sausages and bacon. Diet when I get back home!!

On our first night we were going into town & Liz recommended a couple of places, then booked us a table in one, it was the best window table & the food was superb. Thanks Liz.

This is really a great place to stay, it is like being at home, so relaxing and friendly.

All in all I would recommend Websters if you want excellent service, high quality food, great rooms and most of all two brilliant hosts!

Thanks Liz & Neil

Room Tip: Just book in!!!!

Thank you so much for sharing your experience here at the lodge. We love to offer all our guests a touch of home yet with a level of independence with our guest kitchen and chance to chat with us and meet others if they wish to enjoy complimentary drinks and canapés. Breakfast is always a chance to offer what one likes rather than a set menu so it is easy to please with fresh eggs from the property. We hope to see you back in Wanaka in the future.

Websters on Wanaka went to every possible length, and beyond to make our wedding happen at such short notice! From helping co-ordinating all the extras, accommodating our needs for the ceremony and reception to hands-on-help with everything in between. They made our wedding day one to remember with exclusive use of the lodge, our ceremony on the lawn followed by the reception in the incredible outdoor BBQ area with the outdoor oven and fire, and the living area for some warmth and the even and All Blacks game to top it off! My husband and I retreated to the peaceful Cardrona Room, where we could relax and absorb more amazing views. We were treated to the most amazing breakfast the next morning in the Mount Aspiring Room, surrounded by breath-taking scenery. We were even spoilt with fresh eggs from the smallest and cutest of residents!

Liz and Neil, you were both truly amazing and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for sharing your piece of paradise with us and our friends and family. We were so privileged to have you as our hosts and to share our special day with us. We looking forward to seeing you again this time next year when we celebrate our anniversary!

Thank you very much for taking the time to offer us such a lovely review of your wonderful wedding. You had the total package here at the lodge with 35 friends and family and we very much felt like friends and family by the end of your big weekend. Your ceremony in the gardens, canapés and champagne on the patios, wedding breakfast cooked in the onsite outdoor wood fired oven with music and dancing in front of our large outdoor fire all made it such a success. A real bonus is we love to slide into the background paying attention to all the little details to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. It was a pleasure to host you all and offer you our slice of paradise, views and all, so brilliantly set up for small to medium sized weddings of all shapes and forms.

My family stayed here one night in (20s/Sept). It is absolutely one of the best B&B we stayed in NZ. The owner is very friendly and warm hearted. Every item in the house is high quality, comfy bed, high grade kitchen and bathroom, the yummy cookies baked by the hostress, and also the superb spa under the star.... BTW, there is rice cooker for asian family...

The only pity is that we should have booked here more nights~~~ Absolutly will be here next time in wanaka.

Thank you so much for taking the time to offer your review and to know you had a wonderful stay in our Alpine Peaks Apartment. It is a real gem with all the extra touches that apartments often don't have as well as assistance on hand if needed We also have added chopsticks, slippers and many extras to suit our guests. The rice cooker has been a real success. I hope we see you back in Wanaka in the future.

Wow, some long and enthusiastic reviews on here so will firstly say I agree with all of them. Keeping this short and sweet. Stayed one night during a 14 day tour of the South Island. Stayed in Cordrona room which is a very high standard and very comfortable. A bit out of town ( pleasant 20 minute walk downhill to get into town ) but the host will drop you off and pick you up so that is no issue. Great breakfast. All round high quality B&B.

Many thanks for taking the time to offer your review. We enjoyed meeting you and discussing your travels over wine and canapés I remember you loved the lake view from the Cardrona room and the fact that the property was in such a quiet spot and not that far from town and no hassle with our courtesy coach. I trust your return to UK went well. We hope there is an opportunity to host you again in the future.

My boyfriend and I are from Sydney, Australia and we traveled to Wanaka for a ski holiday. We choose Wanaka because of its proximity to Treble Cone (a ski field ~30 minutes away for more advanced skiers), and because of its reputation for being more laid back and quiet, compared to Queenstown. It turned out to be our favorite destination in New Zealand and we already want to go back, and of course, stay at Websters again.

I have to admit, when I initially began searching for accommodation in Wanaka I simply went down the TA list of most popular B&Bs, and Websters' was the most popular one that was available for the 4 nights I requested - what luck! I can't imagine staying at a better place. I honestly think that they would be higher on the TA list, if not at the top of the list, had they been around for longer. They are a relatively new B&B and have only been operating for about 1.5 years.

I booked my room through their website which was easy and the confirmation was prompt. They took my credit card details to secure the booking, but payment was not necessary until I arrived.

Websters is located about 3 minutes drive from the center of town, down the road from the lake, and about 4 minutes from Puzzling World. The grounds are nicely tended and you have wonderful views of snow capped mountains from the house.

I stayed in the Cardrona room which costs about NZ$200/night. It was tucked away on top of a stair case offering lots of privacy. It was a spacious room with a super queen bed, 2 armchairs, a digital TV with DVD player, air conditioner (there is also central heating for colder months), a tea tray, mini fridge and a private bathroom just outside the door (on top of the stairs, your room is to your right and the bathroom is to your left. You can move between the rooms without anyone seeing you, which I thought was like an ensuite but better! as it separated your living space from the bathroom and gave you a spacious bathroom). There was also a balcony with beautiful views of the mountains and a small outdoor set if you wanted to sit outside. The room was very nicely decorated, with modern finishes and a warm ambiance. Similar to the rest of the house.

Sleep quality is an important feature for me when I am looking for accommodation, as my partner is a difficult sleeper. However he slept well in our room. Although the room offers beautiful light when the shutters and curtains are opened, when they are both drawn they provide a dark room with no light creeping in to wake you prematurely in the morning. The air conditioner on top of the central heating, and plenty of blankets also allow you to regulate the temperature throughout the night. And the location is very peaceful; there is no street noise and despite there being a chicken pen outside (which is fun to look at) we did not hear them at all.

Each morning, Liz prepares a generous and tasty breakfast at a time of your choosing. There are a selection of cereals and home made muesli with yogurt and fruits on the buffet to start, and a full cooked breakfast with toasts, croissants and spreads, bacon, sausages, eggs how you like, and beans to follow.

Liz and Neil are great hosts. As well as being friendly and warm, they were particularly thoughtful. They saw us off every time we went out and made sure we were prepared for the day; they brought out windscreen wipers and warm water to take the frost off our car in the morning, clarified directions to the ski fields and other places of interest, presented us with dinner menus from local restaurants and the use of their phone to make dinner arrangements, and knew when to offer help, like when I spent some time trying to figure out the laundry/drier, and greeted us at the front door when we came back from our outings. All this, yet Liz and Neil were never intrusive, offering the right amount of privacy and the feeling that we were being well looked after.

I am especially glad that I stayed here because on top of a comfortable stay, I feel like there was real value for money. There were so many little extras and facilities; the room was re-made each day, including replenishment of free tea and coffee, small chocolates and baked goods on the tea tray, milk in the fridge, shampoo AND conditioner (the only B&B to have offered conditioner on my trip), a small platter with drinks/wine before dinner each evening, spa, dry room for skiiers, laundry/drier, and a complimentary shuttle to/from town. There is no compromise on quality either, all the linens, furnishings and goodies that are provided to you are of high quality which makes the stay feel extra special.

Bottom line: Comfortable, good value, quality stay with beautiful views and hosts that make you feel well looked after

Thank you Liz and Neil, we hope to be back in the future.

Wow thank you so much for such a great review. You have captured so much of your stay with us. You managed to highlight many of the little extra things that we like to offer really that goes to adding value to your stay. As you mentioned this location is perfect because of the view and closeness to town and other activities but with a rural outlook and the lake views which is what sets this location apart. We loved hosting you and hope to see you return to Wanaka perhaps in the Autumn when the place is a blaze of Autumn colour.

Another stop on our around-NZ honeymoon. There are lots of B&B's to choose from around Wanaka, all of which we looked in to. We chose Websters on a few criteria that set them apart from others, and perhaps we can pass these recommendations on to you:
1. Away from the core. We LOVED that they were off the beaten path, with a good couple of acres
2. Boasted lovely gardens...by this I mean vegetable gardens. They also have chickens, and take pride in cooking their breakfast from fresh, local, from-their garden as much as possible, and sustainable. The breakfast was amazing, filling, and healthy (minus those devilish croissants of which we each HAD to have two of!)
3. Extras...we were offered wine in the evening with Liz and Neil. Unfortunately we had a lot on our plate so were too late to join them. They had freshly ground coffee available with an assortment of milk to use whenever and however much we wanted.
4. Clean and comfy- BIG plus for us is the cleanliness of the bathroom and sleep quality. All other reviews touched on this, but i must reiterate this. And the shower is lovely and appears quite new.
5. View. Lovely view from our shared balcony, of which we were alone on with a table and chairs. They had a hot tub but we did not have a chance to use it.
6. Hosts. You guys were so friendly and hospitable. If we had known how lovely a town Wanaka was before booking, and how much we loved your accommodation, we would have stayed another night instead of heading in to Queenstown like we did for 5 nights. You were so friendly and helpful with everything from where to eat, swim, have some vino, and hike. It is no wonder you are rated so high.

If we ever get the opportunity to return to New Zealand, we will head back to Websters.

Thank you so much for such a lovely review. We were delighted to host you and glad to see the recommendation to others to dedicate a few nights of the travel schedule to Wanaka. It really is a bit of a hidden treasure. I remember you loved the outlook and the panoramic views of the mountains and lake, which is the real bonus of our elevated position. We are really committed to sustainability and so many of our guests love that aspect to their stay with us I sure hope to see you back in Wanaka with us in the future
