“Great fire and mulled wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 August 2014

Loved the atmosphere, called in for a mulled wine, ended up by the fire and staying for dinner. Great meal, however off hand waiter who took our order. Didn't appreciate getting snapped at when we asked if they serve dinner to be sneered at by male waiter to be told madam we are a restaurant in a nasty tone. However meal was good, sea food platter would have been enough for 3 with bowl of chips, 2 of us could not get through it.

Hi there,

Thanks for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your meal. I can assure you that the staff member who served you didn't mean to offend you. His comment was a reflection of his German sense of humour (which doesn't always come across quite as he intends it too). I hope it didn't affect your night too much.

“Après alive and well!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 6 August 2014 via mobile

Great little spot as soon as you get of the mountain. Shots, drinks, food it is all good. Cool laid back vibe and very relaxing. Couches and a fire inside and a massive fire and tables out side as well. We all loved it.

“Poor.”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 August 2014

My Partner & I went to the Hotel whilst on Holiday for tea. We had been to the Cadrona before and loved it so decided to go again, however we were highly dissapointed. My partner ordered the lamb chops, one was cooked perfectly and one was so over done. I had the Chicken Hot Pot pie, it was nice however the veges in it were not cooked properly and my Mash Potato had absolutely no taste what so ever - it was inedible. My colslaw had no dressing and was just shredded bits of cabbage. We went in the bar for a drink afterwards and were planning to stay to watch the rugby however the amount of kids running around really put us off. We love kids dont get me wrong but they were screaming and just running amiss. We ended up sculling our drinks to get out of there.

Thank you for your feedback about your experience with us. We've taken your comments regarding your meal on board, unfortunately there's isn't a lot we can do to control the behaviour of other guests' children (as much a we sometimes would like to!) We're sorry if this negatively impacted your evening with us.

“Worth a visit!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014 via mobile

My husband and I were with friends and stopped in here after a day on the slopes for a few quiet ones.

So pleased we did - this place is so cool. So much character.
We wondered if it was just going to be a tacky tourist trap, but it certainly didn't appear to be.

Will definately revisit next time we ski cardrona!

“Lunch at the 'oldest bar' in New Zealand”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

We heard about the old hotel / bar at Cardrona (now a 'fancy boutique hotel), so drove out from Wanaka to see it one day.
We stopped in for lunch (and a pint) at noon hour. It was such a lovely sunny day, that we decided to eat our lunch (split a seafood combo lunch special) outside. Very GOOD! Reasonably priced!
We sat around an open fireplace and enjoyed a fire, afterwards.
Recommend stopping for food (or a room) at the historic Cardrona Hotel when in this part of New Zealand.
