You pay for your stay, but SURPRISE! When you visit the showers you discover they are not included in the price. You pay extra for the BBQ, pay for the showers by putting coins in a meter with a 6-minute timer, and the heaters are on a noisy ticking 1-hour timer.

I've been visiting NZ now for many years and usually tour in a friends restored VW Combi. First time I found Glendhu by accident and never stay anywhere else in Wanaka. Two years ago had to stay for ten days with a slipped disc, and when I mentioned to the chiropractor in town I was there he said he and many friends in the area always stay at Glendhu over Christmas/New Year, even tho its so local so took that as a great endorsement.

Quiet, but close enough to town, and the scenery/views are breathtaking, of the lake, the mountains, and Mt Aspiring. Its close to Roys Peak if you feel you have energy to expend, and on the way to Rob Roy Glacier. Staff have always been faultlessly helpful.

Clean facilities, $1 for a shower. Love the place and will always stay when in the area, I'll always return.

Thanks for yet another memorable stay.

Room Tip: Just try it!

Clean and tidy camping ground with all the required facilities right on the water's edge in idyllic Glendhu Bay. We stayed in a cabin with a kitchenette which was basic but comfortable and clean. The highlight of the trip was having a picnic on the beach as the sun set!

I recently have had an opportunity to stay at Glendu Bay Lakeside Holiday Park, and I have had to leave with the utmost reluctance. The scenery is amazing and the staff are so polite and accommodating. The managers - Chris and Keith - go out of their way to advise about trips etc, and to help in any other way they can. I had many conversations with them and found them to be genuine, kind, and fun. It was a shame that some campers and locals who use this park, don't obey the speed rules which are there to prevent among other reasons - children from being run over. Chris and Keith have made many improvements to the camp and I met campers who had nothing but praise for them as managers, and as people. After reading some of the bad reviews, I am left wondering if some of these reviewers had disregarded other people's safety and comfort in pursuit of their own needs and have had to spoken to?? I loved it there and would go back in a heartbeat. Thanks Chris, Keith, and the team!!

Thank you so much for your kind words. We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay with us - it was a pleasure to assist you with your questions. We are terribly lucky to have such a fantastic location, and it is great that you appreciate the hard work running a camp ground like Glendhu can be. You are obviously a very perceptive person, and we think you have probably hit the nail on the head with some of the 'not so complimentary' reviews from a minority of campers!! We hope you will come and visit us at Glendhu Bay again.

This traditional NZ camping ground provided us with the most wonderful weeks camping. The camping sites are great and the facilities are good and clean. The holidays were ending so I imagine it was quieter but everything was very relaxed. The setting is just so beautiful - lake front beautiful mountains all around with so many things to do if you wish - boating, fishing , fantastic day walks, swimming, and relaxing. One couple stayed in a "cabin" and though it was adequate probably needs a upgrade :-).
Great time had by all.

Room Tip: go camping rather than take a "cabin"

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Glendhu Bay - we are so happy that you enjoyed your time with us. You obviously picked the perfect time when things were a little bit quieter .... time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings! We do appreciate you comments regarding the cabins requiring an upgrade ... hopefully this may become reality later this year. Watch this space!!

A magical spot, enjoyed by a large group of us ranging from newborns to grandparents! Great facilities and fair rules....we had an absolute ball and did not want to leave! So great to have ease of rubbish disposal making it a nice clean camp to be staying at. Thank you Chris and staff for making our experience such an awesome one, the camp is a credit to you.See you next year!

The location of this camp is amazing it is such a pity about the terrible customer service. I checked in to be greeted by an unfriendly and hostile women on the front desk. She had nothing positive to say and just yelled the rules and regulations at me almost making me walk out. I would recommend (after reading others similar experiences) that a customer service course would really benefit this camping ground. This sort of service really lets the place down. I will certainly be staying elsewhere next time I decide to go camping!

It is interesting to note that you say the rules were 'yelled' at you by the manager, when it is not company policy to discuss the rules with guests. We have a very comprehensive handout that is given to all campers upon arrival, to read at their leisure. We would suggest that you have an ulterior motive for writing such a review, and we trust readers will see it for what it really is.
