It looks like a true piece of history from the front and as you walk into the cosy bar and restaurant! Behind it hides beautifully appointed, airy, tastefully modern rooms, looking out onto a picturesque cottage garden filled with roses and other flowers waving in the window! Food at restaurant well worth sampling, and if you don't have a Speights while you are there it's sacrilege :)

We stopped here a couple of times for afternoon refreshments so can't rate the accommodation. The service was friendly and efficient. The beer garden is pretty and the pub has a lot of character. Unfortunately the whole place has a slightly run-down feeling as though it has been let go a bit.

This is a hotel that also has a bar & a restaurant. This rating is only for the restaurant that states that it closes at 2 pm but had no one to serve customers at 1pm.
The establishment doesn't have a separate listing for the bar or restaurant which makes it almost impossible to rate in Tripadvisor. A common problem
So... Overall the restaurant gets a 2
The restaurant cleanliness was a 4 but there were 2 uncleared tables.
The restaurant location is stunning.(5)
The restaurant "room" is rustic & interesting (3)
The restaurant service was nonexistent therefore a (1)
restaurant Value... Wish I knew therefore maybe average (3)

I, along with the thousands of other travellers, have no idea what the rooms that people stay in look like, but of you want lunch, dont stop after 1pm. Stop for a photograph.

Popped into this unqiue and kiwi icon hotel.. made famous by the speights southern man tv commercial.

Staff are friendly, however there is no table service... you have to order all your food and beer at the bar??

food on offer is good, i had a smoked chicken salad that had a strawberry vingerette on it??
looked very weird but nice all the same.

We stopped here in the winter time to take photos of the iconic facade but decided that we'd spend a night here in our summer holidays. We couldn't believe the size of the beer garden out the back. A beautiful stop to relax and unwind after many hours on the road. Food was good too. Excellent pate!
Room tastefully decorated to reflect the age of the building. Lovely linen and comfortable bed. Sadly no fridge in the room. Took a while to find the hotel's welcome brochure with info and also very annoying when none of the tv channels are tuned in properly. Disappointed that the spa was not in use. It's not just skiers who like to relax at the end of the day! All and all a great experience and I would recommend this to other travellers - you've gotta stay here once!

This is a great lunch stop on the winding road between Wanaka and Queenstown. The place was very busy when we arrived at 11:30 and was packed by 12 - so obviously it's very busy indeed in the peak season. The choice of food was really good and it arrived quickly and was delicious. The garden is pretty and has tables in the sun and shade. Well worth a stop if you are passing

A rambling kind of place, with comfortable beds, a beautiful summer garden and well, wonderful food - a rockin' breakfast of granola, yogurt, and cold cuts, plus a salmon cooked to perfection with lemon/caper sauce for dinner. Stayed for New Year's Eve and enjoyed sitting outdoors with a roaring fire near by. Great energy, happy people and live music to bring in new year. Solid wine selection. Pros: in room kitchen, great location, great food. Cons: funky open shower which soaks the entire bathroom, hot & cold water seems to bounce back and forth.

Room Tip: book in advance - limited number of rooms
