“Chalet feel in Alpine New Zealand”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 July 2014

We absolutely loved everything about our stay at Te Wanaka Lodge. Wayne and Mandy were truly fantastic hosts - they were chatty, welcoming and great people to get to know. The Lodge has definitely taken a few ideas from the social aspects of a European chalet holiday and it works beautifully. The communal spaces of the main lodge building - the spacious breakfast room and the warm & comfy lounge - were fantastic spaces to be in and chat with the other guests. We arrived on Friday evening just in time for wine and canapes and the pleasant chilled-out atmosphere completely bought previous chalet holiday experiences to mind.
Our room was everything we'd hoped for - plenty of space and good-quality furnishings. You'd have no worries staying here in the depths of a Wanaka winter - the heating was superb! The en-suite was well laid-out and spotlessly clean. There was a tiny bit of traffic noise as our room was closest to the road, but nothing to be concerned about.
The design of the lodge still remains modern and is definitely strongly influenced by European and Scandinavian lodges. It works beautifully in this setting. Being just a couple of minutes walk from the centre of town was a huge plus - we're used to staying quite a bit further from town when we visit, so pretty pleased to do a bit more walking and less driving!
Can't recommend Te Wanaka Lodge strongly enough - we'll definitely be back before the end of the season!

This place was simply amazing. The owners were so welcoming it was like home. The room was very comfortable, warm, spacious, had a great balcony, its way better than some hotels I've stayed in.

As for the cooked breakfast I wouldn't know where to start, plenty of it, available over a reasonable time frame, cooked especially for you, coffee and tea on tap - the pumpkin soup alone is worth the trip. I heard a rumour I missed out on cake after we'd been up the mountains for a while too. Plenty of room to dry wet gear. We had the opportunity to have dinner one night too and it was amazing. Sticky date pudding with a butterscotch sauce to die for.

Just great, my 10yo and I are already looking for excuses to go back and we've only been home a week!

Te Wanaka is a few moments walk from the lake and the main town. The room was comfortable, bright and clean and above all warm (could control temperature if you wanted to). Despite being the only client on the first night (early season), I was presented with a full range of cereals and fruits, fresh coffee and cooked options. The guest lounge is also very cosy, with a nice wood burning stove to sit around. Thanks for a lovely stay!

We spent one night here and enjoyed it. The common area is quite comfortable with the fireplace and cozy couches to hang out in. There's free coffee and tea anytime you want it and around 2 PM they have dessert for tea time. Breakfast is also good. The room was a bit small, but had everything we needed for the night.

Thank you for taking the time to review our lodge. I think the simple idea of coffee and cake served for afternoon tea is appreciated by our guests. It is the simple things that count sometimes!

We stayed in one of the offsite properties managed by Te Wanaka Lodge which was brilliant.

The house was spotless and well appointed with a fully equipped kitchen (including dishwasher), 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There was also a lovely garden with outdoor furniture so we could enjoy the lovely weather. The location was fantastic - less than 5 minutes walk to the lake and everything else in the centre.

On arrival, staff at Te Wanaka Lodge were a pleasure to deal with - extremely friendly and offered us lots of advice on the area. We had no problems with the property so did not need to contact again.

Overall a great stay and highly recommended

The location, rooms, service, parking, cleanliness and views of this hotel were perfect. The only thing that was a major let down was the breakfast. i do not consider one piece of cheap white bread and microwaved scrambled egg hearty or tasty, in fact i call it an insult to your guests. With the breakfast being so extremely poor it makes staying here expensive.

I would stay here again if the option for room only was available.

I'm terribly sorry you felt our breakfast's were not to your standards. As you can see we get plenty of positive responses from our cooked and the continental buffet. Our cooked optrion does vary each day of the week.
