“Great place and great value”
Reviewed 28 May 2011

We stayed in the cottage here with our two children (3 and 5 years old) in May. It was great set up in a quiet location. There was plenty of room in the cottage for the family along with everything we needed (incl laundry facilities). We were made to feel very welcome and nothing was too much trouble for our hosts.

I totally agree with the other five star reviews on this lovely B & B. Everthing about Wanaka Homestead is perfect. Ed and Carol are warm hosts who enjoy talking to their guests, the breakfast is delicious and the rooms are as good as you will get anywhere. We stayed in the lodge and enjoyed fireside chats fellow guests from Perth and elsewhere in NZ. A walk along the lakefront on a crisp autumn morning is highly recommended. One night is not enough.

Everything the other guests have posted are true. We spent 3 weeks traveling around New Zealand. No other place was the great combination that this place was. Carol and Ed are attentive to your needs but do not intrude or hover. They both have have lots of helpful information about the activities and sights in the area. Douglas the dog was a welcome sight for those of us who were missing our pet. I won't repeat all the praise for this lovely place but did want to confirm that this place deserves all the great reviews.

I travelled from London & spent 4 nights here with my grandmother who was celebrating her 80th birthday. The breakfasts were awesome (delicious fruit salad), the rooms cosy & immaculate, and the property backs onto a beautiful park filled with giant trees, which leads to the lake front (few mins walk)… While we had a car its also close enough for a leisurely stroll into town, or borrow one of the mountain bikes (all inclusive) and head out around the lake path – stunning! Ed & Carol were the most amazing, considerate hosts – felt like we were staying with family friends & left totally chilled & wanting to spend longer. No small feat dealing with a hyper 30+ and her 80 year old gran (who is usually critical but was so delighted she’s written an article about the trip for her local paper)… They’re chill, never too busy to answer 101 questions about what to do, where to go, what to see – whether road-trips with Gran or taking a local hike or climbing session… We loved it so much we used the BBQ facilities for a steak on the final night and soaked in the hot tub under the stars… I’m a fussy traveller – but this was a beautifully appointed & located lodge, with hospitality kiwi style… Wonderful stay guys – thanks a bunch! If you’re reading through this site dilly dallying as I did for weeks – just go ahead and book, you’ll love it… This place is a fab find - I was travelling with family but will be back for a romantic interlude next time with my partner... This is our second time at Wanaka Homestead. Why did we come back? Great location, comfortable roomy beds, very warm and cosy cottages, outdoor open fire and BBQ area add a great touch to dinner, the hot tub is a must with a glass of red.
The total cottage is very clean and added features like umbrellas and outdoor chairs are extra features which you don't carry in your suitcase. Also being able to use the laundry for washing and drying of clothes saves having to pack dirty items.
Ed and Carol are great hosts, very friendly and helpful with local information especially on what walks to do.
Oh, and of course, there is Douglas, their dog, he is a treasure - he loves people and your dinner tit bits.
We highly recommend a stay at Wanaka Homestead, you will not be disappointed.

We arrived at 9 Am and Ed, our host cordially greeted us. We did not have a plan for the day, but in 15 minutes he made suggestions and we were on our way for a bike hike using the complimentary bikes they have, then a quick lunch and an afternoon on the Jet boat with Brent, a Maori guide (really enjoyed this!). Wanaka is one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand. Ed and Carol know the area and are helpful in making whatever arrangements are necessary. The room was very nice, and the common area was very inviting. Breakfast "hit the spot". The other guests were quite pleasant. The nightly rate was a completely fair value for the money spent.
