We thought Wanaka was beautiful, cute town and enjoyed our stay at the Homestead. There is a nice walk from the Lodge into town which we enjoyed (a bit longer than 15 minutes). We had the barn, which easily fit the 4 of us in 3 bedrooms. The beds were very comfortable, the entire place was very clean. Free use of the washer and dryer which we used. We did not pay extra for the breakfast, but went into town. We enjoyed grabbing a cup of coffee there and walking around the town. The only disappointment is that there are a ton of books in the rooms, and in the lobby ( looked like ones I would like to read). I am used to leaving a book and taking one,but that is not the case here--good thing that I asked! The books belong to the owners for you to read while you are there. Carol gave us good recommendations on restaurants for dinner. I would come back.

Dear Kelsey1976

Thank you for your kind comments. We enjoyed meeting your family and having you stay with us as well. Just to clarify the situation regarding the books for anyone else reading the review:

We are more than happy for guests to take a book and leave a book in its place. There are only about four books in the entire library that belong to us personally and that we would like to keep here. For that reason we ask that guests advise us first which book they intend to take with them as these books were gifted to us and have some sentimental value. Otherwise we love having the turnaround of books too - gives us new reading material as well!

When you arrive, it's easy to see why Wanaka Homestead scores so highly with travelers. Carol Ed and Douglas are very friendly and knowledgeable and make you feel very welcome in their home.
The location is really good and the place has a lovely feel to it and the rooms are well sized and really well appointed.
Carol gave us some great local recommendations and an excellent breakfast.
Would love to stay there again next time we’re in Wanaka.

If you want to take advantage of the laid back nature of Wanaka, this is the place to do it. Superbly comfortable rooms in a gorgeous timber building. Ed, Carol and Andrew provide a slightly quirky but very enjoyable establishment to unwind and relax. Lovely location a short walk (or ride on the providing bikes) from town and a lovely stroll back after dinner.

A continental breakfast is part of the normal lodge package with an option to top up with a cooked breakfast if required to sustain one during the day.

Our group of 7 booked four of these lovely rooms. This B & B is beautiful, and was built with an eye for detail and quality. Ed and Carol made us comfortable in our spacious, clean, rooms. The lovely linens, windows that opened to the outside garden, fan, water in rooms, mints, wi-fi, euro shower, open coffee and tea bar with yummy cookies... all made us feel right at home.
Loved the meeting room off the formal dining, and complimentary laundry facilities. Hot breakfast and nice conversation with other guests was fun.
There is a walking path from the lodge along the lake to town. The Lodge has bikes if you are so inclined.
This was sheer luxury, and I can't wait to return.

Room Tip: Master Suite is lovely

Spent 3 days of our honeymoon at the lodge and it was amazing. The scenery was gorgeous. The service even better. We had Breakfast supplied and it was perfect, continental, fruit and the option of a hot brekky! Ed, Carol and Andrew were very welcoming allowing us to use the bbq (which saved us walking to town for dinner 2 nights as we got some food to cook on the BBQ) and hot tub was for use at our leisure and even the bikes and helmets to get out an about. We walked everywhere as we didn't have a hire car so we had to plan our lunch an dinner as it was a little walk into town, but the walk into town is beautiful along the water. Not very far the other direction along the water is Edgewater restaurant, which wasn't as far as walking into town, so going there for coffee and dinner was perfect.
Defiantly recommended, it was clean and they even had washing facilities!

This is simply a lovely lodge, with comfortable rooms, an excellent breakfast and comfortable amenities (hot tub, tea & cookies, use of laundry facilities, etc.). It would likely take 10 minutes to walk into town, but there is a nice footpath by the lake, or you can use one of the lodge's bicycles. To top it off, you are rewarded with Ed & Carol's gracious hospitality. Don't forget to take a walk through the park across the street and see the gigantic trees and beautiful rhododendron & rose bushes!

I only wish we had longer to stay. It was a great room, with a fabulous shower! We also had a lot of privacy even though we were staying in the main house. The continental breakfast was very nice, but some might consider the price a little high for the cold breakfast.
