“Warm and cosy alpine feel, with great value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 July 2012

From the website I booked off, I was not expecting much but upon my arrival I was shown my room which was already warm and toasty. The new owners were very welcoming and were keen to offer any assistance. The location could not be better with everything you need no more than 50 meters away. I was put in an upstairs room with a balcony, which had breathtaking views. I would of given 5 stars but there was a slight creaking noise from the wood but the owner assured me it's nothing to worry about. All in all my stay at Aspiring was a great weekend getaway on a budget.

Room Tip: Ask for an upstairs room if you want a great view

Thank-you very much for your kind review!
Yes the creaking noise is something that will be getting better over the summer months, however due to the harsh conditions of the winter the live wood begins to shrink and expand depending on the temperature. We are very glad that you were able to understand this!!
We are very happy that you were pleasantly surprised by our Motel and we hope that you can come and visit us on your next trip to the South Island!
Thank you again,

Kind Regards,
The Aspiring Lodge Motel team!

I stayed there for three nights from 15 July 2012. I stayed alone in room no.8 ln the first floor. The room was very spacious with a king size bed and a balcony. There was a comfy sofa with a TV. The room also had a side kitchenette with fridge, microwave, kettle, washing sink, plates, etc. and this was very handy. Just next door is a massive supermarket to get all you need. From the balcony I could see lake wanaka and the mountains. The walls of the room where all lined with wood and the ceiling had wooden beams which gave a certain charm to the room. The bed had electric blankets which were super amazing as it was freezing outside! All in all I loved my stay there and will most certainly return again if come to Wanake. Highly recommended. The owners were very friendly and offered to assist in all ways possible

Room Tip: Go for the first floor if you want to have views of the lake and mountains - room 8 where I stayed i...

The Aspiring Lodge is right in the center of Wanaka. There a plenty of restaurants and shops nearby.

Our room was well furnished and clean and while not large, it was not cramped. The bed was comfortable. The linens were clean and fresh. The bath, while not large, was equipped with a shower without a tub. The room had a small kitchen area with hot plate, refrigerator, microwave and sink. All the fixtures and appliances worked just fine.

It was windy during our stay and the room creaked and groaned as the wind blew, sometimes loudly enough to disturb our sleep. When we checked-in we were advised that this was likely to happen.

Free wireless was available in the office area. Our room was very close to the office so we could pick it up there as well.

Altogether, other than the noise made by the building, it was a good place stay, but nothing special.

Location should have been excellent since close to main shopping, but also too close to pubs and the noisy drunks coming out of these places.
Unit was very nice, had everything we needed, bed was extremely comfortable. The unit itself we couldn't fault.

Was in NZ for my honeymoon, and this was a walk in hotel we chose. Nice and cozy place, and the lady who owns the place (Brit as I remember) was just the nicest, with the stories about her grandson's cricket jersey she sewed
The only annoyance could be the the creaking noise of the wooden structure, but that you'll be warned before
It's not a luxury hotel, so don't expect too much, but it's good value for your money with being centrally located, with wonderful lake view soon as you step out.

Would definitely recommend.

Rooms are a bit dark but large enough. There was some street noise but still acceptable. To us the noise of the wooden structure of the building was more annoying. But the cental location and the nice owners make it a good place.

Good campsite slightly out of the main stretch of Wanaka town cemtre but well worth the walk/drive. THe site was great and had added extras of spa pools and a sauna that look out onto snow capped mountains. THe spaces are high up on the hill and so have a fantastic view down onto Wanaka. Slightly more expensive than the other campsite but well worth the difference in price.
