Owner description: Welcome to Wanaka's wonderful world of weirdness! Puzzling World has been messing with people's heads since 1973. Bizarre buildings, rooms of illusions and our famous maze will baffle your brain and challenge your perceptions of reality. Even if you only pay a visit to New Zealand's most unusual public toilets, your world will never be the same again. Seeing is disbelieving!

“forget skiing and snowboarding - go to Puzzling World!”
Reviewed 27 December 2010

Most backpackers in Wanaka spend their time skiing, snowboarding or skydiving. We went to Puzzling World.

Puzzling World, as it's fabulous glossy flyer promises, is 'the most puzzling place on the planet; designed to amaze and be enjoyed by adults and children with a world unique theme of puzzling eccentricty!'

We spent a puzzletastic morning exloring Puzzling World's Hologram Hall (the world's largest display of 3D hologram photos), the Hall of Following Faces (168 famous faces following you wherever you move), the Illusion Room (with crazy distortion that turns you into giants and dwarves), the Tilted House (with an upwards sliding slidey chair, uphill rolling billard ball, and upwards flowing water), getting lost in the Great Maze (we conquered in it the end though!) and taking funny photos of ourselves in the Roman-style diorama toilets and propping up the 'Leaning Tower of Wanaka' with its backwards-ticking clock. Those skiers, snowboarders and skydivers don't know what they're missing!

Hi there, thanks for such a great review - glad we could add something special to your holiday in Wanaka and that the puzzletastic times were as good as we promise! P.S - Sucre was my favourite place in Bolivia - love that Dino Park!

“OK for $9”
Reviewed 18 December 2010

We went in the illusion rooms only and not the maze so the cost was only $9 and i wouldn't really want to pay anymore than that. We spent about an hour and it was an enjoyable enough stop off but not worth a special journey.

Hi Albie,
thanks for your review and apologies for the delay to reply (it seems some older reviews have only recently been added to the list!) It sounds like you enjoyed yourself for the illusion room fee paid (4 x illusion rooms, Puzzle centre, roman toilets etc) so hopefully our massive changes seen over the last 4 years would be to your liking.
Kind regards

“Freaks you out - in a good way”
Reviewed 13 December 2010

Puzzling World was excellent - I especially liked the Tilted House which totally freaked me out and I loved the toilets!

I would have liked more time to fully explore the maze and the puzzles in the cafe but we were pushed for time.

It's very photogenic so make sure you've got your camera.

“Puzzles Galore”
Reviewed 16 July 2010

A great way to spend your rest day from the snowy slopes.
The kids have to get their fix every time we go to Wanaka.
The maze is a lot of fun and the illusions are always fun.
They have a great selection of puzzles and puzzle books to purchase if you haven't had enough of puzzles in the cafeteria area.

The toilets are a must for a laugh.

“Fun activity with kids”
Reviewed 8 June 2010

We stopped off at Wanaka on route from Christchurch to Queenstown and decided to visit Puzzling World without really knowing what we were going to.

We couldn't have been happier, we all had a great time and the kids loved it. The toilets themselves are quite an attraction! We spent about 1 and a half hours in the giant maze and we still didn't finish it. The only reason we gave up was that it was such an incredibly hot day and we needed a drink. Really wished we could have completed it though - it's still bugging me to this day!
