Description: With our lakefront setting, spectacular views of the majestic Southern Alps, contemporary and innovative cuisine, and fresh daily baked goods, Relishes Cafe has become something of a Wanaka institution. We are open from 7am till late offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Enjoy a glass of wine from our extensive list of local and New Zealand wines or a cup of locally roasted fair trade organic Venus coffee in a casual atmosphere. In summer, the double French doors are opened wide to fully enjoy the stunning lake view, and in winter, a roaring fire displaces the chill after a day playing on the mountains. As a family run business, we welcome even the littlest members of your family by providing a children's menu, a well loved toy box, and a highchair. We happily cater to special dietary needs and also to special events when our in house baker creates delicious cakes to celebrate your occasion! With an abundance of local produce, meats, eggs, and wine grown in the Otago region on our doorstep, there is no need to go further afield for ingredients that will create flavours to delight the palate. Dishes highlight seasonal produce, locally found herbs like horopito, free range eggs, and meats that come from the region, some coming from just down the road. Drawn by the allures of Wanaka after many holiday visits, brother and sister Toby and Tash, along with Tash's husband Paul, bought Relishes Cafe. Showcasing their passion for food, wine, and travel, the trio are frequently seen both in the kitchen and on the house floor. Head Chef Silvia has traveled the world and has an extensive culinary background including experience in Europe. She draws on her international experience to whip up culinary fusions with a Kiwi touch. Serving up twice daily blackboard specials, she and her team continuously bring something new to the table.

I enjoyed my soup of the day. My wife had a chicken dish, which was also very tasty. We arrived with no prior booking, but were seated in no time at all.

“Small restaurant surprises”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 July 2014

We went for dinner at Relishes and I was really impressed by the whole experience. The restaurant has a cozy, intimate atmosphere, which was hugely appealing after a cold day on the slopes. The staff are friendly, yet professional, the service is great and the food was pretty much perfect. The lamb is a must have. The chef combines elements brilliantly and everything compliments each other very well. Relishes is the first South Island restaurant I've been to where I've able to say that the Auckland-like prices were worth it. I highly recommend Relishes. By the way, we also grabbed take away coffees and croissants the next morning for breakfast and these were great too.

“Nice Food, Friendly People”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

This is a fairly small establishment (average size for a café) but they serve quite an eclectic range of meals that will surely satisfy most palates.

The staff were friendly and happy to accommodate our request to move to a different table so that we had a view out of the windows - not an easy request to handle when dealing with a booking of 10 people.

The daily specials were explained and orders taken with a minimum of fuss. Meals were brought out fairly quickly and the food was (mostly) very tasty. The one exception was a twice-baked Gruyere soufflé which was too rich and had started to separate. However, the broccoli, pear and blue cheese soup got a thumbs-up from the couple of people who tried it. Several of us tried the pulled pork buns with apple slaw and found them to be tasty and filling (although my preference would have been for a bit more spice - but that's just my personal preference and not everyone likes their food as spicy as I do). One of our group ordered the seafood chowder and said that it was very good. Presentation of all meals was quite good and prices were pretty reasonable.

If you're looking for an interesting range of taste sensations in Wanaka, then check out Relishes Café.

“Easy parking, good coffee and food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

We had 3 visits to this cafe . The coffee and muffins are good. Each time we asked for water with our coffee, only once was it brought to us without having to ask a second or third time. Waiting staff seemed a bit harassed .
