We recently had a week skiing in the Wanaka area and based ourselves at the beautiful Maple Lodge, about 5 minutes drive outside town in a quiet and convenient area. The rooms were luxuriously appointed, the breakfasts were delicious and the homemade afternoon tea's were eagerly devoured after a day's skiing. The outdoor spa (complete with magnificent mountain views) was a daily must. Guest internet access was handy to check ski conditions and onward travel arrangements. Our hosts, Bernie & Paul (and Mini the dog) could not do enough to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable ... organising in-house massages, making evening dinner arrangements and advising on ski fields, local activities and our onward plans. Staying at Maple Lodge was like staying with friends. We had a wonderful week and will definately be staying at Maple Lodge next time we are in Wanaka.

I'm writing this 6 months after staying at the Maple Lodge yet time has not dulled how impressed I am with the couple who have built this lovely lodge just outside of Wanaka. Their theme is a strong balance of sustainability and tier one B&B accommodation. The British couple built this place from scratch and their story is fascinating. Beautiful bedrooms open up onto a huge garden which seems never ending given the paddocks and mountain views beyond. I have no hesitation in recommending this place.

We were initially attracted to Maple Lodge by the attractive rates, and upon arrival, we were greeted by both Paul & Bernadette, who made us feel very much at home in one of the most picturesque locations, mere minutes away from central Wanaka.

The rooms were nicely presented, with cheerful bedspreads and curtains. The view from our bedroom was stunning - we could see the snow-capped mountains and adjoining farmland. We had our own outdoor table and chairs on which to relax with a nice bottle of white.

The jacuzzi was warm and inviting. We spent almost an hour relaxing in it.

What really made Maple Lodge stand out above the rest was the hospitality of the hosts. Whenever we were in the lounge area by the fireplace, or relaxing in the courtyard, we were offered complimentary tea or coffee, which was much appreciated.

A cooked breakfast was prepared for us on each day, which was wholesome and delicious. We particularly liked Paul's blueberry muffins, which were in apparent constant supply.

All in all, Maple Lodge is the nicest B&B my wife and I have ever stayed in.

Thanks, Paul and Bernadette. You truly made our holiday a time to remember.

We stayed at Maple Lodge for two nights over Easter in 2009, and would thoroughly recommend it to anyone looking for first class accomodation and friendly hosts.
We stayed in a Super King room, which was beautifully furnished and had a fantastic en-suite with a walk-in power shower. The room had a patio onto the lovely gardens, and we could walk out at night to sit in the hot tub and admire the night sky.
Home-cooked breakfast was served in the mornings, and it was very tasty indeed!
The hosts were incredibly friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for them.

We had a little trouble finding the place initially but what a welcome we received when we found it! Paul and Bernie were so welcoming and friendly, and shared with us the story behind Maple Lodge over tea and homemade biscuits. Somehow they found out it was our wedding anniversary (my husband's doing, I suspect!) and surprised us with a bottle of sparkling wine.

The guest lounge was impressive, quite stately but with a homely feel - it was very well thought out. The guest room was cosy, a little smaller than the other b&bs we had stayed in but very clean, with thick carpeting, a really comfortable bed and its own patio. The shower was superb! There was no tv in the room so tv buffs would need to get their tv fix in the guest lounge, which has a nice flat screen tv.

Breakfast was lavish - the muffins were truly award winning and the pancakes ... really yummy. Paul even gave us some muffins to take away with us when we left. Maple Lodge was pricier than the other places we had stayed in but the warm hospitality, beautiful place and good food made for an anniversary we would not soon forget.

There just isn't a detail that Berny and Paul missed. Even the amenities in the rooms are chosen with eco-friendliness in mind. Being there in March was especially lovely with the myriad Maples in their autumn reds, and in the hot tub in the garden one sees the trees and mountains in the distance. Berny and Paul are welcoming, full of information and provide a serene atmosphere for true relaxation and the beds are THE BEST I've EVER slept in! Many thanks

The Maple Lodge is 1 and 1/2 years old and still feels new. The handicap facilities are first rate and there is reserved handicap parking.. The internet, well, so-so. Paul, the host, says he limits per client access to 50 mB, which isn't much, but I'm not sure it's true. What is true is that the internet service fails rather frequently, although I don't think it's his fault.

Don't be put off by it's location on a small dirt road that branches off a bigger dirt road. It's what you find when you get there that's important. The innkeepers Paul and Bernie are eager to make your stay enjoyable.

Breakfast features their own eggs, laid by free range hens.

The facility is 4 1/2 kilometers out of town--fast by car but probably more than most would want to walk. The setting is very tranquil with sheep located right next door. If one iistens carefully, one can hear their baaing in the background,

Try it, you'll like it.
