Altamont Lodge is not luxury accommodation - each room sleeps up to 5 in a mixture of double, twin bunks and pullout bed and the bathrooms ate shared. That said the lounge with wood burning stove is very welcoming and there is a separate TV room. The kitchen and dining room is amazingly well equipped with salt and ground black pepper, tea and coffee provided. There are even sharp knives which is a real rarity for self catering along with a good variety of pots pans and utensils to cater for most meals. For the skiers and wet weathet trampers there is a drying room. Situated slightly closer to Treble Cone than Cardrona it is ideally situated for Wanaka's ski resorts and the Mount Aspiring Park.

One thing to be aware of, Noeline and Rod like to keep the windows open in the showers and loos so in winter these can get pretty cold - worth bringing a towelling robe or similar.

All in all though for the price it is excellent value for money - clean, quiet, comfortable and welcoming. What more can you ask?

I stayed a night in Wanaka at the Altamont Lodge. Room was very spacious and cozy, with a good heater. On top of that, being that it was off season, I got a great rate! The kitchen is nicely laid out, and there is plenty of room for people to mill about. What I loved most of all was the hospitality shown to me by the owners and staff. Had a wonderful time talking with Heather and other travelers. Highly recommended!

Spent two nights here and loved it. The managers Rod and Noeline are very nice and friendly and Rod's always got a joke up his sleeve. The cabins are modern and the facilities are excellent. The kitchen is well organized with a dishwasher and enough cupboard space. Rod will give you tips on the best walks to do and best place to get a coffee. Really loved staying here and we will be back

Really lovely place to stay on the edge of wanaka; I had a single room which was really good value. Very friendly owner with some really nice home touches such as lots of hand towels in the bathroom. There's a large kitchen with dishwasher & 2 huge fridges with shelves & door space labeled for each room. There's a big car park & it's a lovely 15-20 min walk into town past the lake

We had an absolute great stay at the Altamont Lodge! Clean, spacious rooms and facilities. Beautifull garden. 20 minutes walk, 5 minutes ride, to the centre of Wanaka. The owners are very friendly and helpfull with all kinds of things. We would definitely recommend this lodge to everyone who is searching for a tranquil stay in Wanaka.

We went to Altamont Lodge in middle of May and we were surprised that the place is actually quite big. However, we were the only occupant during that time. This is not an issue, we enjoyed our stay here. Everything was well maintained here. The kitchen is spacious and equipped with everything you need. The room is clean and comfortable. Parking space is available right outside the lodge.

The place is quite special as the whole accomodation is built with pine wood. Very comfortable to stay especially during winter time. Recommended place!

$49 a room is great value, especially for a single person as we often have to pay a double rate to get our own room. The rooms here are spacious and clean. Kitchen is well set out, lounge area is huge and there's a separate lounge upstairs. There's also a hot tub. The managers are very friendly and helpful. It's a pleasant 2 km walk into town, alongside the beautiful lake.

Room Tip: The upstairs room is quiet if there are groups of trampers, skiiers etc downstairs
